Just picked up an unbranded pressure washer for £23.98 at B&Q Warehouse, they had loads in stock at this offer price. Just cleaned all the filth from under the car caused by a leak. A bargain for the price fittings etc... seemed good quality. Used it on a very hot tap with no ill effects too. So if you only want one a little bit (as I did) this may be your call. Read more
Aldi's pressure washer, if I remember correctly, is a rebadged Karcher product.
Best one I've bought (apart from a £70 model reduced to £40 at Focus which had an 1800 watt motor and 110 Bar pressure that eventually packed up in the hands of my son, who'd borrowed it) is a £49.99 upright model from Argos.
It's as good as the first one but also came with a same make small oblong vacuum cleaner (14.4 volt) that you use to collect spills etc; this was £30 when bought separately...:-)
The son now has the second one and has had it for the last five months....:-(

you need 2 spanners. one holds a nut steady whilst the other slackens off the retaining nut. then you adjust the tension then do back up the nuts.
job done - takes 5 minutes
cheers! Rich
I have a query related to the new Fiesta TCDI , it has a wierd starting problem , it always starts from cold , however with the car hot , if it is parked for over 15 min it will not start , the engine just cranks for about 20 secs ( when the ECU times you out ), it will start up to the 15 min but gets less likely the nearer you get to 15 min. However , if you then leave it about 30 min more it will start . There are no indicator light problems and the car does not log a fault code . So the dealer says there is nothing wrong with it ! The fault is more or less repeatable .
Any help?

Stuart,
is this a 1.4 or 1.6 TDCi Fiesta, and if the former, what year?
I'm looking to buy an Audi TT and it has 70,000 on the clock and needs a service.
Does anyone know what needs to be changed at 70,000? Does the cambelt need changing?
It's on a T reg and is left hand drive.
Any advice most welcomed. Read more
Yes, and I think we are refering to this sort of
repair bill at a main dealer, taken from HJs Car-by-Car "
Dashpods seem to fail regularly on older cars and cost £900
to replace".

You don't have to go to a main dealer for this. BBA-Reman will rebuild your own instrument pack for a much lower price - you obviously have to remove it, send it away for a few days, and then reinstall it.
I was under the impression that all new Corollas were made in the UK?
We bought a 2nd hand ex-Toyota fleet 04 reg Corolla a few months back and on washing it recently, saw a sticker on the windscreen which says 'Made in Japan'.
It's not a dealer sticker, or a 'We are Toyota, look at us' sticker, but a small opaque sticker in the top right hand corner.
Where was our Corolla made and what would be the differences if it was a Japanese one? Read more

The XJS is in for a few bits and pieces at an independent Jag specialist in Norfolk. Some of the bits he's replacing (suspension bushes, anti-roll bushes etc) came up as a result of the report I got when the XJS had a main dealer service last month. I was surprised and more than a little disappointed to have a call from the independent chap saying that the report and service I had had done was only part of the story.
The upshot is that there were a few other bushes, not mentioned in the main dealer report, that were in worse condition than the ones that were mentioned. They'd also failed to notice an oil leak from the propshaft bit at the back going to the back axle, and that some of the work in the service hadn't been done.
It was a 15000 mile service at the dealer, and oil, air and fuel filters should all have been changed according to the schedule. The oil's been done, but air and fuel certainly haven't. The plugs are also to come out for a looksee and clean, and they haven't either.
Who do I write to at the main dealer? It basically appears that I've had a semi-complete inspection and an oil change for £300. I've no reason to doubt the independent chap - he's got a good reputation, and he's spent a long time with me under the car. I've seen the air filters, and there's no way that they're only 4 weeks old.
I'm irritated as I went to a main dealer to get it squared up until I could find an independent chap I could trust. They were happy enough to take car and money, so why have they not done the job properly?

Jaguar XJS V12 - comes with free personalised oil tanker. Read more
One of the spark plugs on the V12 is underneath the aircon compressor which needs to be removed for access. The story I heard (when I owned an XJ-S) was that that plug wasn't changed very often, even if the others were.
Interested to hear how it develops with your dealer.
Asda have some very good prices on useful car things. WD40 for less than a couple of pounds (£3.50 in Halfords). Paint brushes are hugely cheaper than B&Q. When are they going to start stocking spark plugs, oil filters etc. like the French supermarkets do? Read more
I'm sure I've seen WD40, along with a surprisingly good range of car cleaning bits, in Poundland. Their artificial chamois cloths (three for a pound) are good for the money.
Apologies in advance for yet another insurance query.
Minor collision with minor damage (although probably several hundred £).
Passing a car on dual carriageway, other driver tries to change lane before I am fully past. Scrapes and dents to rear passenger door, wheel arch and bumper. Details exchanged at scene.
This was in my wife's car. I was driving. My wife has informed her insurance company and I am currently waiting on them calling me back.
Should I just be calling the other guys insurance co and seeing if he has admitted liability and if so just deal direct with them?

Thanks for all the advice Mark (RLBS) & others.
Although the other guy did not seem to have admitted liability his insurance co stated they couldn't really see how he could not be at fault. So they phoned up the other party then phoned me back saying that they would authorise all repairs and were happy to deal direct with me.
They asked if I was willing to use one of their repairers to which I replied I was as long as it does not affect warranty ect on the car (04 plate Toyota). I imagine it would be a lot easier just using their garage but I am going to give the Toyota garage a quick ring to chek the situation.
Once again thanks to all.
I bought an August registered 04 plate Focus Zetec from Ford Direct 10 days ago. Whilst I am generally happy with the car there are two problems that I have since discovered.
The first is an area of rust at the rear of the car, under the boot hatch where the top of the bumper meets the metal. The paintwork doesn't appear to be damaged, it looks as though water is sitting at this point and not draining properly.
The second is an intermittent problem affecting shifting into 3rd gear from 2nd. The gearbox gets stuck in neutral and I have to lift and depress the clutch again before I can reselect gears.
Whilst both matters are relatively easy to resolve and covered under warrantees, I have a few questions.
Is rust of any sort unusual for a car of this age? Do I run the risk of having long-term problems?
Should I consider rejecting the car under Ford Direct's 30 day 'no quibble' Exchange plan? Has anyone had experience of doing this?
Alternatively, should I stop worrying and just get it fixed?
Thanks for any advice you can offer. Read more
I have a 53 plate 1.6 Focus courtesy car from the dealer today, I have driven a number of Foci before however the balance between ride and handling never fails to amaze me, it rides more smoothly than my Ghia X Mondeo and handles just as well. Also while not a fire cracker the 1.6 is very crisp and free revving, also the brakes are excellent albeit drums at the rear. I have not driven a new Focus yet though if it is even a 5% improvement over the old one then it must be very good indeed.
In other words stick with a Focus, reckon you can't go far wrong.
If you are otherwise happy with the car I would give the dealer the option of repair though make it clear that you expect it done by a certain date and reserve the right to still reject the car if you are not happy with it post repair. If the dealer prefers to provide an alternative car then you might be able to use this to your advantge by gettinga better spec / low mileage / newer / prefered colour car for the same price.
Main reason for the poor economy of the Paykan is probably the roads on which it travels and the style of driving. For example, in 1979 as a family we drove from Vancouver to San Diego in a Dodge Aspen with a 3.8litre six cylinder engine. We did about 4,000 miles in five weeks of touring and averaged about 25mpg (Imperial).
However, the average was made up of lots of smooth straight roads when we got easily 30mpg and one amazing tank in San Francisco (lots of traffic and hills) when we got only 6 (yes six) mpg. Same driver, different environment.
The sort of driving that the Paykan suffers would probably really benefit a diesel.
