I was under the impression that all new Corollas were made in the UK?
We bought a 2nd hand ex-Toyota fleet 04 reg Corolla a few months back and on washing it recently, saw a sticker on the windscreen which says 'Made in Japan'.
It's not a dealer sticker, or a 'We are Toyota, look at us' sticker, but a small opaque sticker in the top right hand corner.
Where was our Corolla made and what would be the differences if it was a Japanese one?

Ah Toyota's - my specialist subject!
The sticker you mention is a genuine Toyota sticker and merely denotes where the vehicle was made - in this case Japan. All Avensis are made in the UK near Derby but the corolla range is split between UK and Japan.
There is no difference between a UK and a Japanese model and there is sometimes a choice between the two when ordering them off the availability system.

Ah, fantastic!
Which ones are more reliable? ;)

If you believe what the mechanics say then it's the jap built ones

Are all Yaris's (Yari?) made in France? I saw a sticker on one last week.
Is this a legal requirement now, or is there some other reason for it?

No some Yaris are still made in Japan.
No idea!

Fantastic...but I can't believe there's not a single difference, not even a tiny little thing?

Saloon Corollas (rare in the UK) are made in Turkey. As for whether UK or Japanese models are more reliable/better built etc who knows, but Japanese workers take huge pride (more so than other countries)in their work, its more like a religion to them.

Insert your VIN number into one of the numerous VIN code decoders available on the Net and you will soon discover where your Toyota was built.

Avenses and Yares if we're going to imagine they're Latin words (as with basis and bases) rather than something cooked up in a studio.
But it would be Foci - Focus really is a Latin word. Likewise Signa (though you don't usually see more than one at any time.
Vel Satis literally means "quite enough" - enough said.

I'm not going to disagree with b_h because I know next to nothing about toyotas, but I think you need to differentiate between 'made' and assembled.
I would have taken the sticker you found to have meen that the windscreen was manufactured in japan (or even the sticker...) but wasnt -isnt?-some eu rule about cars made (assembled) outside of eec having import tax stuck on them. same with cars assembled inside eec but with a certain percentage of parts manufactured outside eec?

The UK cars are definately built from lots of little bits here in the UK. The Japanese built cars are most definately fully built over there, they come into the country on rather large transporter ships at Portbury and just have things like badges and minor trim things done at port of entry.
The import tax your talking about was scrapped many many years ago.

built from lots of little bits>>
All cars are built from lots of little bits - and some big ones as well...:-)

Corollas for the Australian market are made in South Africa. BMW 3 series for Australia come from there also. Astras and some Hondas from Thailand. Nissan Pulsar hatches (I think that might be your Primera) come from the UK but saloons from Japan.
|
The pulsar is usually comparable with our sunny/almera
