This might seem a silly question but I am going to buy a 2002 passat diesel how can i tell if it is the 100bhp or the 130bhp from looking at the car, as the dealer does not have the V5. He tells me it is but how can i check.

Are the badges put on at the dealers (hence the 'no cost' badge delete option on Audis)? I had a courtesy Polo a few years ago with the boot badges in the door bin...

These gearboxes seem to get rave reviews during road tests. Are there any negatives following long term use in the real world - reliability, additional servicing, etc. Read more

Leaving aside that I can't see a need to "creep" that slowly I did an experiment in the Touran this morning to see what happens. In traffic I have always kept a little room in front of me and crept "feet off" in 1st as long as I can to void excessive clutching/braking.

1. Speed with feet off pedals is ~5mph in the Touran 2.0TDI DSG, slightly less than is in my (manual) A3 where it moves around 8mph at idle

2. If you brake gently to reduce the speed below that the car pulls against the brakes and then drops the clutch in the DSG just before the vehicle is about to halt. If you are careful with your brake pressure you can just about pick up the point where the clutch begins to drop, and if you release the brake at that point you can feel the clutch coming back up to regain the idle creep.

Hope thats of some use

At start up usually all dials work but soon all die at same time - may come all come back to life for short time during journey. Electrics to dash tested ok - Can anyone recommend a dash repairer as new dash costs approx three hundred and fifty pounds.

Digging up this old thread as I have the same problem. What colour is the earth wire on the pcb?

Is there anywhere I could get a diagram or image! My local tv/audio guy is going to look at the board. ...

The wife's Zafira 2001 1.6 16v goes fine on full throttle. It also idles really well. The problem is when just touching the accelerator pedal after slowing down etc. It is as though the fuel has stopped pumping for a split second. Then it catches up and all is well. Anybody seen anything like this on an Ecotec engine? My first thought is a vaccuum leak but I can't find one. Read more

On my Corsa, the light usually only came on for a few seconds, but when the fault code was read something was logged. But it probably varies model to model.
Also, a word of advice to original poster- don't bother with all the fuel treatments that claim to clean the engine out. I tried them when mine was playing up, and none of them did the job. Cheaper in the long run to get the EGR valve sorted (if thats what it is)

Ok so did anyone else notice the news on Saturday - 4th news item behind the Pope's funeral, the royal wedding and Rover's demise was that little matter that petrol prices are now the highest they've ever been....

We had the UK fuel crisis when prices were about 10p a litre below what they are now??!! Isn't it time we all went on strike and abandoned our cars and stayed at home all day? Go on the weather's turned nice....

Evening all. Bit of a tough one here but I would appreciate any comments.

Just so you know, I'm on an Orange Pay as you Go phone.

Last week, a number beginning 029 rang my mobile. He guy said he was from Orange and something about upgrading me. I have to admit, I was busy so I kind of fobbed him off and he said he'd ring back later.

Today, I was less busy so actually entertained the person calling from a number beginning 0870. She said she was from Orange and basically said they could upgrade me to a Motorola something or other (can't remember - pretty sure it would have been pointlessly modern) and lower call rates etc... Would I be interested? "Why not" said I and she continued.

Cheaper calls and something else under a pay monthly scheme would also be available to me so she took my name, asked for the post code and house number, and confirmed the address. Asked for a home phone number which I gave and then here is where it gets a little more weird.

I was asked am I in full time work to which I said "No - I'm at Uni". I then got asked which Uni - I told her. Now my guard was up as she asked which bank I was at. Again, I told her. She asked how long I'd banked with them which is when I really got suspicious. She wanted the name how it appeared on the card and the sort code which is when I basically ended the call saying how I never had my wallet with me. SHe said she'd ring back later and I forgot all about it.

Anyhoo, later on, the 0870 number rang twice, then the 029 number and when I got home I'm told they rang here as well.

As you can see, it's a little suspicious. It could be perfectly innocent I know and I also know that they'd need to withdraw money from my account under a pay monthly scheme but I'm not going to do anything like that over the phone. No way.

Does anyone have any thought? I know I was pretty silly giving the address out but anyone can find that out. As it stands, they don't have any information other than my name, address and the Uni I go to. Is that too much information? (Not that I can do anythign about it now)

Thanks for any thoughts you may have,

Alvin, Integral overflows are now the most common...just fitted a w.c.
with push button dual flush and integral overflow all in one
central unit mounted in the cistern.

Another device is available, that I fitted in a flat some years ago, which takes the conventional overflow into the soil pipe behind the pan. It is a valve made of transparent plastic so you can see any water passing through it. Obviously a hole has to be drilled in the soil pipe to fit it but it avoids all the problems of drilling another hole in the wall.
I was delighted to find the device as the flat had the pipe going into the soil pipe BUT no valve and the pipe was not sealed. Prior to my efforts the bathroom was affected every time any toilet attached to the same stack was used.
It was a flat rented to students and I guess none had ever complained to the landlady.

Trader friend of mine still sells some cheap cars 'without warranty' and writes "Trade Sale" on the receipt. We used to do this years ago when a car was 'sold as seen'. I thought the law had been changed though, and the wording "Trade Sale" no longer exempts the seller from responsibility for defects in the vehicle. Am I right or is my friend right? Read more

...so if I wanted to negotiate a trade price for that TD5 stuck for 4 months in a Nissan Dealership, what should propose?

For my purposes I would want it without warranty, as if it were a private sale, but I would be cutting through all those overpiced landies on the market.

Do I propose a wording, "For repair and preparation to be used on the road"?

NW, there is a distinction between sale of goods to the consumer and sales between businesses. I can't remember what it is at the moment though.

Hi all,

Last February I bought a 1999 V 2.0 Ghia X Mondeo. As a matter of course I put it into my local Ford dealer for a cambelt change and a service. I rang them up, told them what I had and said I needed a cambelt change. They quoted me a price, I asked if that included everything I needed, I booked it in and they did the work.

Couple of months later I was doing some reading and found numerous postings etc to the effect that on a Zetec engine, it's very important that the tensioners are changed at the same time as the cambelt. Wary of this, I dug out my invoice and found I'd been billed only for a belt - no tensioners. A quick call to them revealed they did not change the tensioners becuase on the later Blacktop 2.0 Zetec, tensioner change was not required.

Sceptically, I rang the other Ford dealer in town and 'enquired' about a cambelt change. I was informed that they WOULD change the tensioners as 'its very important sir'.

Somewhat confused, I called the Ford technical centre and asked their opinion. After a bit of time on hold, they'd spoken to a 'Master Technician' whose opinion was apparently that on Blacktop Zetec engines, the tensioners are merely inspected and replaced if required, not as a matter of course as is the case on the Silvertop Zetec engines.

I was reasonably happy, and forgot about it. But since then I keep reading the same thing all over the web 'Make sure you get the tensioners changed!'.

I'm really interested in how I can get the definitive answer here. SHOULD my cambelt change have involved tensioners? When I booked the car in I had no idea what tensioners were even - thought that for the first service and belt change that doing it at Ford would be the safest way to do it. Had I been called and told it needed doing I'd obviously have said yes.

So what do I do now? Stop being so paranoid and stop worrying about it, or change the belt again less than 10,000 miles later, this time including a tensioner change? Read more

Cheddar is right, the responsibility and accountability needs to be fired back at the dealer. I would hand this written document to the dealer principal and ensure that the date and time this is carried out is noted. You could always post this recorded delivery and keep the notification receipt.

I would also complain to Ford about these unacceptable differing standards in quality and service. Good luck with this.

I've trawled previous posts & none cover quite what I'm asking, which is this.

I have a Dell Dimension with a P3 866Mhz processor. I'd like to speed it up by installing a new motherboard with a faster processor/more memory. Please don't suggest other options, this is what I want to do, as I have pursued most other alternatives!!
I understand that, having changed the motherboard, I need to reinstall Windows XP. My machine was originally Windows ME & I have the upgrade disc which I used to install XP as it now stands. My general question is, if I change the motherboard, can I just reboot & reinstall from the upgrade disc? It seems to me that there are a couple of implications here:
- firstly, it may not boot from the existing C-drive with the new motherboard
- secondly, if I boot from a floppy and try to reinstal XP, will it work as I have an UPGRADE disc & not a full INSTALL disk, will I have to reinstall ME first, then upgrade?

Any suggestions/help gratefully received! Read more

I have had my a6 for 18mnths with no problems but recently when on motorways etc at around 70mph there is a distinct loss of power and pulling and it feels like the engine is missing.
I have been to a independent Audi garage and they have run a diag' and no faults have come up.
They suggest the problem could be the air mass sensor but they are not sure. They also told me to check that the turbo was working. They suggested that i remove the hose from the front of the turbo and spin the shaft to determine seizure or not.It looks like a fiddly job to me. Is there another way to test if the turbo is working. Please help
Thanx
Dave
P.S. the a6 has 94k on the clock Read more

Because your car has a turbo (I assume the "T" in the model code means turbo), I would think it will have a MAF sensor like the TDI's, but I may be wrong.

If it has, try changing it!!!
