November 2004
I've read some of the threads re peugeot electrical faults but nothing sounds like what my car is doing.
I'm getting a dodgy buzzing/clicking noise coming from behind the glove compartment, I took it to a garage to get my headlight bulb replaced as it was slightly dimmer than the other and asked them to look at it. They said that some switch was dodgy and that it was sorted which it seemed to be for a while, but now it's doing it again. They also replaced the bulb which was fine, but now the light is suddenly dim again so I'm wondering if the noise and the headlight thing are maybe related.
I know it's probably something really simple but I know nothing about cars. Does anyone have any idea what it might be?

Stuck at a newly installed set of traffic lights this morning, I had a brainwave.
If most A and B roads were made one-way, then
* all the traffic would move a lot faster
* distance travelled may increase, but fuel consumption would be little different due to less acceleration and braking
* a large number of road junctions, traffic lights and roundabouts could be removed or reduced in complexity
* road safety would dramatically improve - fewer junctions, less traffic moving on roads at high closing speeds
* most roads would then have at least two lanes, meaning easier overtaking ? lorries, caravans, tractors
* less road signs would be required
Eventually, once most roads are made one-way, the choice of LHD or RHD vehicle would be relatively immaterial...
I couldn't really see much of a downside to this, am I missing something?

even tho the buses there are awful.
really? I think that the public transport here is quite good actually. mind you, there is a bus stop 20 yards from my house and the service runs every 20 mins, and drops off at the train stations I use.
Talking about his family now on BBC2. Should be some motoring stuff in it. Read more

My wife,s 2002 ford focus 1600 cooling fans are running continuously even when the engine is cold. The fans always start up a few seconds after the engine is started. Have tried disconnecting switch on radiator, but this just stops one of the fans. Any suggestions? Thanks Read more
While the engine is warming up, the engine thermostat is closed, therefore running the fans won't affect engine warm up significantly.
The air con is switched in automatically to dry the air as mentioned in another post in this thread.
The fans run to cool the condenser, which will get warm during a/c operation.

I've just had the car MOT'd and got the following results:
Fast idle test:
CO: 0% vol
HC: 0 ppm vol
lamda: 1.003
Natural idle test:
CO: 0% vol
How is this possible?
Surely there must be some products of combustion.

Doc, what car do you have ?
Nissan Micra 1.4 (1991)
My mate has a Renault Clio sport and as luck would have it, the above happened on new alloys to him today when I was in the car. It wasn't high speed but we were turning left and tried to squeeze past a car tuning right. We did, but sadly touched the kerb. I ony felt it ever so gently because I was expecting it to happen but the other person in the car never even noticed so it wasn't that much of a grinding horrible noise.
Because my mate was nearly crying at imagining the alloys (we couldn't pull over) I pointed out, in my best consoling way that he may have done more damage to the more mechanical parts of the steering. (Word of warning, don't do this at 50mph - especially if the person loves their car - I could swear I saw a tear drop)
Anyway - because we were on a straight, we decided to do a cursory test which basically was taking it up to about 65 - no wheel shake or anything like that. Braking hard, nothing. Even took a country road back and he said there were no problems whatsoever.
My question is, if all of those checks turned out alright, has he been lucky and gotten away with just kerbing the alloy (I've pointed him to a place which did a cracking job on mine for 30 quid)? I said I'd ask in case there was any unseen damage he may have cause.
Any thoughts/comments would, as always, be most welcome.

Proclean Alloys is the company yes - do you know exactly where it is because you can miss the small street that it is on. I thought I was having a favour done for me at £30 - I got told it was £50 for everyone else!
If truth be known, I don't know anyone at Proclean - it was when my car was in the garage, one of the alloys was kerbed to the point where it made...a...well - sharp point which could have burst the tyre so my Dad's mate took it in.
If it makes you feel any better, ProClean will do a fantastic job - the wheel will look brand new.
If you need any directions, just give me a shout - although I suspect your mate will know as well!

Sorry to be a pedant Schnitzel but shouldn't that read "be careful to not cause a fire"?
went to walkers Renault (Stourbridge) this afternoon, just turned up at 4pm. chatted to 2 guys (mark & Phil) about my old Laguna?s, told them i used to get them serviced here.
asked about megane tourer 1.9dci 120bhp.
after 10 mins, he handed me the keys and said, go try it out !
test drove it for 1 hour, (including going home, taking wife ala 2 kids out for 20 mins)
may i say what a fantastic car it is.
like victor says "I don?t believe it"
so going back to my old thread of what family car, i am hooked

just one problem, where can i get the cheapest quote from ?
they will price match with Virgin and buymynewcar.com
any other dealers to get a good cheap quote from.
can i expect a 7 - 9 % discount.
its also on a 4 year 0% finance
also sensible options i would like are
xenons (nice)
tailgate opening window (handy for all the stuff i carry, and have to remove in carparks)
17" alloys (instead of 16")
cruise (25-40K a year)
rear airbags? are these the thorax ones for the kids?
your opinions (as always) are very welcome.

My new Megane is the sport one with 18" alloys. Seems to tramline quite badly, although the ride is very comfy.
Pay careful attention to "insurance & registered owner issues" if considering buying from some of the internet sites advertised on this site.......................................................
I'm sure these have all been voiced before, but after a rather annoying journey home I feel the need to vent my spleen...
Pet Hate of the day 1:
Idiot bikers. Like the one who came hurling down the outside of a stream of traffic towards a pedestrian crossing where the lights where on red then nearly took my front end of cutting across and being rather lucky the lights had just say gone off red when he arrived and the crossing was empty.
PHotd2:
Why do people never let you out? I was waiting to turn right out of a fairly major side road. Very little traffic coming from the right, but the cars coming from the left were all bunching up and making sure I couldn't get out. What is the harm in leaving a small space for someone to pull in to? I was sat there nearly 5 minutes before I finally pulled a bit of a banzai move infront of a car turning in to the street who'd left a tiny gap.
PHotD3:
Impatient PFDs. Once I'd got in to the queue, some idiot in a Golf decided he was far too important to wait with the rest of us, so sailed down past us, though a hatched area, through a right turn for traffic coming the other way, the wrong way around and island and in to the much shorter queue to turn right. Fair enough if it was <20 yards and you could see clearly if the way was clear, but this was over 100 yards and round a bend.
PHotD4:
People who join the right lane, drive up to the traffic lights, wait until they go green and *then* put their indicator on to turn right. Need I say more? Why can't you just let us know in good time and we'll join the left lane and go past you...
Right, spleen vented for now! :) Read more
The air conditioning on a Ford Focus (and I believe some Mondeos)- can't turn it off with control set to "windscreen". Don't Ford trust their buyers to be able to select air-con on/off themselves? Another motor industry contribution to global warming.
Hi - thinking about buying a Fabia automatic, something like a 52 plate. Anyone out there with any info/advice? I'm thinking about things like:
- reasonable mpg around town?
- does box change-up smoothly without the engine having to rev too high?
- reliable motor??
Any info/opinion (good or bad) would be appreciated. I have had 3 autos so far and need to stick to one. Dont like cars that are too big, so something like an Octavia or Vectra is no good. Need a town car that is reliable, hard-wearing and automatic.
Cheers

They are just too slow to be considered, even for a town car. It is even slower than the Polo auto. The combination of the VW 1.4 and the auto box is really only sufficient for the Lupo, which is probably too small. The Fabia is a good car, but not in auto form.
If you don't like the Jazz, a slightly older Yaris auto is a better bet than a 2 year-old Fabia. I suspect a Fabia auto will be quite hard to pass on in a few years, as it "falls between two stools"

mayday,
Welcome to the forum. The buzzing has been mentioned before. It is something to do with the air recirculating flap. There is a motor that operates a flap when you switch between air coming in from outside, and air inside the car.

See LeePower's comments about it.
I'm guessing that although my link refers to a 406, it'll be a similar set up for your 106.
