After extolling the virtues of my wife's new Punto, predicably, things have gone wrong. The air bag, engine management and power steering warning lights have come on at different times and it has had to be fixed.
Now the clutch has developed a horrible judder and I gather that there are loads of Puntos out there that will have similar problems. Faulty clutches so I'm told that will have to be righted under Fiat warranty. Read more
Does anyone know the significance of battery codes? (015 063 038 etc)
Just curious.

I think they were originally Lucas part codes, and became universally used.
The same is true with auto bulbs, the codes you see on Halfords etc.. pack, such as 383 were originally Lucas part numbers.
Evening all,
Before I start, I love my Focus - it's everything I could want in a car (apart from a nice V8 block) but my feelings on the new one are not good.
The hatch is essentially a squashed C-Max with Mondeo headlamps. The saloon is the only one I would ever consider (again) but the prices are phenomenal.
My car, a Focus saloon Ghia was around 15 - 16k new (rough guess). That's for a Ghia. A 3 door "Titanium" will cost £15,775 new (base price). With the only options that are worth having, the price goes up to £18,000 for a non Ghia ford.
£19500 for a "Magnum Grey" 2.0 TDCI Ghia. CD and ESP. Wow - for that money I'd get an RS or even scrimp and save and buy a Golf R32.
What are Ford doing - they bring out an ugly car and then overprice it. Again, I have a weird taste (I like the saloon over the hatch any day) but surely I'm not alone in 1)Thinking the car is overpriced for something that is 2) so ugly.
Begs the question what the new Mondeo's going to cost. Much as I love Foci and Mondeos, there would be no way I would pay over 20 grand for a "basic" Mondy.

Yeah, but if you can get a car that was built a year ago at a much lower price (thank you very much Ford marketing programme) then I know that's what I would rather do...

Trying to fit new rear pads to P reg xantia 1.8 estate.
The disk runs much closer to the inside edge of the caliper, almost touching it, while there is a decent gap on the outside.
Caliper piston is fully retracted but there is not enough space to fit new inboard pad. The problem is the same on both sides of the car.
Anybody got any ideas? Read more
Thanks, I'll give it a try!!
Hi all,
Recently my micra started have problems starting in the morning. It's kept outside on a the driveway overnight, and it refuses to start up in the morning. If I leave it for a couple of hours, it starts without a problem. Now I've read a couple of posts regarding the common problem of micra's engine temperature sensor unit playing up and reportng the wrong temperature to the engine managmeent system. What I wanted to know is...
- If I used a can of freezer spray on the temperature sensor unit, would this help identify the problem.
- can anyone recommend a garage in Leeds that can sort this problem out?
Cheers in advance
John

IIRC there is a bit of modified wiring harness that plugs into the loom and connects to the sensor. Ring your Nissan dealer for details - it should be an easy DIY job.
Hi All,
I have a 93 1600 orion that wears the curbside front tyre on the inside only. Can the camber be altered on this car or will it need more drastic measures to correct it?
Cheers

You can't alter the camber by any normal adjutment. Is the bush worn on track control arm? Is the steering wheel straight when you are going straight ahead? Does car pull to one side? Are tyres the same type on left and right? Have you hit anything to bend the suspension?
HI , ive bought sold owned crashed bent etc loads and loads of cars over the last 15 years or so,

Honda Accord's 2.2 cTDi must be the best 4 cylinder diesel
engine out there. BMW make good 6 cylinder diesels.
I have no personal experience of either, but they don't come cheap do they?
The PSA 2.2 HDI powered cars are a bargain in comparison (the Citroen C5 in particular). Four a 4 cylinder engine it is exceptionally smooth and quiet.

Hi all,
I was having a perusal of EBAY and happened across a 9 year old BMW M3. Now one thing - I love my BM's - Dad's mate has a new M3 and it is absolutely gorgeous...but I digress.
The bidding is at £6,600. That seems awfully steep for a car with 130,000 miles on the clock. Obviously not that steep because someone has bid that price.
Lovely car but I could find something a lot newer and reliable (although admittedly not as quick) for 6k.
What do you think of the price?

It was an Evo model yes but still a lot of money for the miles.
We had neighbours ages ago who bought a BM as a status symbol (some would argue who doesn't). It was a K reg 325 TDS. Knackered old thing - 150k on the clock, broke down on the test drive (I kid you not) and the gear lever was snapped at that top.
They paid 9,500.
Madness.
Incidently, they whacked a private plate on it.

I have just been checking prices of the new C5 range on www.drivethedeal.com and the discounts currently offered a very small compared to what they are/were on the old C5 (they are even smaller on Autobytel). I think many people will be waiting until the old models are out of the way and (hopefully) prices come down, before purchasing a new model. At the current prices, the new C5 is not much less (or could be more) than the equivalent Peugeot 407.
I was also surprised to see that the engine range contains a 2.2 HDI 16v engine, which is only available with the auto transmission. I assume this is an update to the previous 2.2 HDI. Does anyone know why this is being used in the new C5 but not in the 407, and why the new 2.0 HDI is not available with an auto box? I think I am right in saying that the new 2.0 HDI is a more economical engine than the 2.2 HDI (even in 16v form). Read more
Besides, I don't think there's a 2.2 petrol engine available. What a pity, my frined has got in his 407 and it's super smooth & refined thanks to its second-something (or twin-something, sorry I don't know how to spell it in English). Some even say it's as smooth as a 3.0 V6.
No probs (touch wood) since the car was done.
My understanding is that a large batch of fault clutches were put into the cars. When the fault became apparent through a judder, cars were fitted with a modification but this has led to more problems. They are now fitted with a redesigned clutch.
