Any recommendations for car hire from Prague airport? Read more
My expereince of car hire in Europe suggests that airport pickup is always more expensive than going to a local city office, for example.
I was in Cologne in July; using an airlines "preferntial rate" with a major hire company would have got me Lupo sized car at the airport for £76GBP on a special weekend rate, or £106GBP for an Astra for the same period.
I ended up getting the Astra from the downtown office of the same company for the same weekend for only £65GBP and the bus fare from the airport into town was only 5E. When I got off the bus I was 200 yrds from the downtown hire office.
Obviously the saving was good as I only had one fare to pay, different situation if say 4 of you have to get the bus but still cheaper overall.
The only downer was a friend living in Cologne knew where to hire a similiar sized car at an even better rate (£52) for the weekend and this was through a non international local company. When I did some web research beforehand I was getting quotes of up to £200 for weekend hire on Astra sized cars so it pays to shop around.
as always

Just returned from Germany where I had a chance to drive from Berlin to Frankfurt - 360 miles and back.
It is quite interesting to note the diffences in driving compared to the UK.
Firstly, the Germans are MUCH more disciplined when it comes to lane discipline and always always move over (and quickly too) for faster vehicles.
This could be out of fright when a huge dark coloured Audi (they are always Audis) is approaching, headlights on, at over 220 Kph but I think its in their blood
Secondly even on two lane sections the outside lane proceeds at 140-180- kph lorries being banned from that lane altogether. You don\'t get the bunching you find over here
Thirdly, in 720 miles I did not see one police car, no camera signs, nothing. Kept nervously scanning the horizon for the dreaded \'specs\' \'gatso\' et al, but saw none.
Thirdly their roadworks are not well signposted with as little as 800 metres warning - not a lot of notice at 100 mph
Lastly we really do need to sort out the middle lane hoggers that have taken over motorways in the UK the return journey on the MI from Luton passed dozens of them!!
Why do they seem to do it so much better over there?

The police on the Autobahns here generally adopt a very low key approach. A lot of patrols are done in unmarked cars (generally dark blue Audis and Mercedes E-Class if the Reality TV programs are to be believed). In the past they had also had Porsches, both marked and unmarked.
The marked patrol cars generally drive at around 130km/h in the unrestricted sections and it's a strangely satisfying feeling to hurtle past one at upwards of 200km/h. You have to be careful of radar traps which are very well camouflaged. In the unrestricted autobahn sections, there are also cameras which are set up to catch tailgaters.
Hi, can anyone help me to solve a problem I\'ve encountered wiring up my new towbar. I\'ve followed the instructions for wiring the 7 pin plug up, and everything seems fine till I connect the tow board and only 1 brake light works on the board. Should I put a bridge across the other connector on the socket?

I've extracted this from another thread to make the following information more visible and to call for details of any more sources of classic-car insurance, should anyone know of any.
Specialist Car Division (big ad in MB Club mag this month)
01277 206911
Norton Insurance: Heritage classic car cover
0121 246 6060
Peter Best (affilated to the MB Club)
01376 573033
AON
01384 552789
Classic policies are often limited to 5000 miles annually, but AON's underwriter offered to ignore that limit when I talked to them the other day -- I've been enjoying my Capri so much that I've run out of miles (it has been with Specialist Car Division, as have my other cars, because it has proved to be a very competitive source). I also see that Norton's scale goes to 7500 and beyond.
If anyone knows of other sources, I'd like to know, as the Capri policy needs renewing at the end of the month. Read more
I forgot, Footman James also include a recovery service.
It's amazing how prices vary for the same cover for insurance companies in the same market segment.
As I understand it, The Rover V6 has very naroow cooling passages in the cylinder head: any blockages will lead to localised boiling. And with Rover's poor engineering history you can be sure once that happnes - and it may happen without any external signs - the gasket could go at anytime. Like 30 minutes.
3: My respomnse is I would never buy anything manuafactrued by Rover: cars , engines gearboxes . anything.
History proves they can design in faults that most other people avoid.

Well done on the scoop. Good that the ride has been sorted out - seems to be something VAG has been trying to address with the latest crop of cars. Wouldn't mind a blast in the 3.0 TDi, either, but one can but dream.
19 hours? Not wise!

Nice looking motor, like the new back lights, and Audi do seem to be doing the best interiors at the moment. Thought HJ would be able afford any car he wants!
Has any one had any recent experience of Renault Scenics imported from Cyprus and their specs compared to uk. I am in the market for a Renault Scenic 1.9dci 120 dynamique and am looking at Motorpoint in Derby who import these cars from Cyprus (new delivery miles). Unfortunately Motorpoint are unable to give details of exact spec until they are in the country. Looking on the Renault cyprus website, their spec for the dynamique is actually higher than uk i.e. additional climate control and sliding centre console. Just wondered if anyone has recently taken delivery of one of these cars and can give idea of spec vs UK Read more
hello Bobl, sorry i cant help with your question but could you help me with website of arenault dealership in cyprus

Also, some sensors draw their reference air via the wiring harness (i.e down the cable) - and therefore don't have visible air vents. The quantity of reference air required is very small.
Do take care when cleaning them, as the internal elements are surprisingly fragile. Also, never spray chemicals on them such as WD-40 - as this doesn't do the sensor, or the connector, any good at all.
The heaters are often the cause of failures which put the diagnostic light on. (these are required to get the sensor up to a minimum working temperature of about 300degC).
.....Why are they so expensive ? ....Because the car manufacturers put a huge mark up on them. They cost about £10 to make.
