My boss is looking to buy a new Toyota Prius. Apparently there is quite a waiting list, and if she buys it from a franchised Toyota dealer she will almost certainly have to pay top-whack. Does anyone know if it is possible to buy this model from a reliable broker, and does anyone have any idea as to what whe should be paying?

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. I'm teaching a 15-year-old to drive, and I'm trying to find places we can go to practice. We live in the West Midlands but I don't mind travelling to find somewhere; currently the only places I've come up with are in Newark and Oxfordshire, both of which are shut the day we want to go! - and one in Essex, which is a bit distant. Any thoughts? Thanks. Read more

Can I buy a number plate that has never been issued? How?
Can I buy the number plate of my dad's first ever car which is long rusted away?
My dad also has a number plate that is attached to a tandem which had a petrol engine (don't laugh - my parent regularly did 100 miles in a day on this). The tandem isn't used any more. can he sell teh number plate which has a memorable number (as it's so old0 Read more
Many plates that have not been issued to date are held back for inclusion in "cherished marks" auctions run by the DVLA. I'm awaiting the release of just such a plate.
You can register your interest and they will contact you when they schedule it to be placed in an auction.

1991 Jaguar Sovereign 5.3 V12 Series 3 - starting problem
---------------------------------------------------------
My 1991 built Series 3 Jaguar Sovereign 5.3 V12 has a rather strange electrical fault. It had been misfiring intermittently and then stalled and refused to restart. The spark plugs were found to be beyond their useful life despite not having reached grand old age and changed. On trying to restart the car, after turning over the engine for about 5 seconds, the electrics shut down. The car was started by turning the ignition swith to II (to run the fuel pump) and bypassing the starting relay and the circuit that controls the relay - the engine fired straight away and ran smoothly.
The car was fitted by Lancaster Mayfair in 1991 with a Sonar Auto Alarm and we are wondering if the alarm has tripped and is somehow preventing the car from starting on the ignition switch. I have a FULL history of the car except for any details of the Sonar Auto Alarm but I know it is fitted as it is an invoiced item and the windows have stickers on them to show it exists and the siren is visible under the bonnet.
If any reader of this has any ideas a) how to disengage or reset the alarm or b) where the alarm is fitted to the car or c) any other ideas or experience of what might be the fault I'd be very grateful to receive their guidance.
I hope somebody can help!
Rgds

Not familiar with this alarm but does the alarm unit under the bonnet have a key slot under a rubber cover to switch it off? This will reinstate all of the interrupted circuits. If not suggest you get an Auto Electrician to remove it. Seems to be a common problem with old aftermarket alarms that the internal relays pack up.

Simplicate and add lightness!!
Prompted by the the lorry graveyard thread and the statement
"why the speed of the traffic seems to get faster as you approach London on any of the motorways."
Its true It does, it does.. I was musing this very point last night. M6 from j20 down to M6 toll, very nice steady crusing at 70 mph in the middle lane, lorries nicely toodling along at 65 in the inside lane, the BMW lane nosing along at 75-80. All very civilised. People flashing to let you out when needed, everyone going back to the correct lanes....
M6 Toll (dont count I was the only one on it)
M42, roadworks - 50 mph limit, everyone toodling along at 50, BMW lane at 60 slowing sedately for the cameras... Again all civilised.
Slight feelings of deja vu start at High Wycombe on the M40, slight bunching, aggression, middle lane now up to 80, BM lane now 90.
And then the m25. The three ring circus much beloved of maximus Suicidal speeds, inches of bumper space, everyone rushing along nose to tail at 70mph in the 40 mph limit slamming on anchors millimetres before the cameras........
My teeth bare, the fur raises and I reach for my mace and sheild, don my armour and the right foot twitches downwards to "close that gap before some tig cuts me up"

I've got the SVE - the camera is great for reversing up to walls, not running the cat over !! etc - not designed for full reversing - i.e. you should still look out of the back of the car.
Temp can't be lowered, I have the Maint CD, screen can be adjusted but it's burried in the service menus.
Have you been on www.nissanprimera.net - great site for all Primera owners !
dear all,
I have a few questions here and hopefully I can get answers to them because i have been lloking for the answer on the net and cant find any.
1) Can NA cars install blow off valves? I love those sound that they produce but i am worry whether it would reduce my NA car's performance since its not turbocharged.
2)How in the world does this SAFC works? How is it connected in such a way that it can read your air-fuel ratio? People starts talking about how it can re-tune your A/F ratio and so your car can go to optimum so the question is how this little small kit can detect what is the right ratio? Or does it depend on your operator who fix it in and tune it. Can i retune it myself?
Hope to get replies from you guys.

Hi there.
As above, dump valves are for forced induction, please, please don't buy one of those fake WMV players that sit under your bonnet and make a dump valve sound.
You might get a nice induction sound with an aftermarket induction kit from HKS or similar, but it's generally agreed you lose a tiny bit of power by installing it.
I know how you're feeling because I bought a NA Supra instead of the TT, and there's little I can do to improve performance without spending huge sums of cash, and sometimes I wish I'd gone for the TT.
Your best "bang for Buck" option is Nitrous Oxide, but expect to shorten the life of your engine and drivetrain.
Folks,
Only one of my cooling fans works. The one on the right dosnt spin at all. Is this a simple fix or somthing more complicated?
Tim Read more
Unless the V6 is wired differently to all the other 406's, then both fans should run at 1/2 speed when the a/c is on, rising to full speed if the a/c pressure gets above 17.5 bar, or the engine temp gets too high.
They're normally wired to run in series for low spped, and in parrallel for full speed. What normally happens on 406's is one fan quits, meaning you get nothing until engine temp or a/c pressure gets high, as the broken fan stops the other working as they're in series. Then when pressure or temp gets up the remaining one comes on when it gets fed 12v direct. Turn the a/c on and see what happens. If only one comes on at full power intermittantly then the other one's knackered. It's fairly common on these, and there was a TSB for fires due to electrical problems as well.
The speedo stopped working on our 106.
Previously was occasionally 'glitchy' dropping out for SHORT periods!
Any ideas? MOT's due soon so will need to spend my weekend trying to fix it.... *groan*
Also has a whining noise from the front (no, not me) which I think is a wheel bearing type symptom rather than gearbox...
Mrs S is 8 months pregnant so luckily isn't wanting/needing to drive herself round too much at the moment!!!!!!!
