Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. I'm teaching a 15-year-old to drive, and I'm trying to find places we can go to practice. We live in the West Midlands but I don't mind travelling to find somewhere; currently the only places I've come up with are in Newark and Oxfordshire, both of which are shut the day we want to go! - and one in Essex, which is a bit distant. Any thoughts? Thanks.

If you are unable to find an official site, and there aren't many of those, I have often found a friendly word with a school caretaker plus a six-pack or a bottle of something gets you use of the playground over a weekend.

The insurance implications of doing that are potentially terrifying. What if the car hits a building and does some damage?

Yep and what if there's a serious injury? Be very careful how you go about this.

How about these folks:
www.drivingambition.info/index.html
They're based in Brackley, and offer proper tuition in proper cars to under 17 year olds off public roads.
You can have 1 hour for £24 or 1.5hrs for £36.00 in a dual controlled Peugeot 307 or VW Polo with A Driving Standards Approved Instructor.
Got to be better than the stress of teaching your child yourself in your own car!!
Alternatively, you can DIY at the same venue (Turweston Aerodrome), but "if you are supervising a learner driver in your own vehicle, you are liable for any damage to private property at the Aerodrome."
"Staff at the Aerodrome may ask to see your permit and will ask you to leave if you do not have a permit , or believe you are driving in a unsafe manner.
The permit costs £10 which allows 1 months access to the site".
I've no connection with this company, and I've never used them. Hope this helps!!
