Since changing the fuel filter the car ,which was always a good starter is now starting but at times it can several turnings over before it starts. The manuel gives air in the system as a possible reason but it does not say how you get rid of it
Can anyone give me any help

Sounds like you have an air leak on the filter - try taking it out again and carefully re-seating the seals. If that fails you may need to replace the filter and seals again.

Modern diesels are self bleeding, but I doubt an Audi 80 is! There should be a primer of some sort, pump this till it goes hard. There might also be a bleed screw on the outlet of the filter - in which case open this, and then pump till you get air-free diesel, close the bleed screw, then pump till it goes hard.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

From Citroen.com about the new C4:

- The Lane Departure Warning System is a major step forward in driving safety. On motorways or main roads, this innovative system warns the driver if the car crosses the lane markings, if he has not activated the indicator. A vibrating mechanism mounted in the car seat is triggered on the side corresponding to the direction of vehicle drift to alert the driver who may, for example, be feeling drowsy.

Sounds like a nightmare to me! I hope it can be switched off. Imagine what would happen on a quiet road whenever you cross the line? For my driving, the vibrating mechanism in the seat would be broken in days!

Still the car looks nice. Read more

I can imagine some people being tempted to drive on the lane markings just to enjoy the vibrations ...

I recently asked for advice from this forum about buying high mileage secondhand Mondeos but I've changed my mind and am considering buying a nearly new Mondeo estate from Virgin Cars which is based in Manchester. Does anybody have any experience of them and are there any better car supermarkets in the North West or North East (I live in Cumbria)?

Many thanks

I wonder how he manages to spend all that commission he makes...:-)

Coming to a lay-by near you! It's been here in North Devon for yonks. Where do you want to start. Discs pads by the barrow full. Steel wheels. The obvious cars. Computer screens/towers/keyboards in rural lay-bys. Tyres. You name it and it will be there somewhere. It is disgusting and shameful. As far as I am concerened, ALL domestic waste, including private vehicles should be disposed of from central funds if need be. This is not my first choice, but I believe there is no other. The problem is much bigger than most people realise and this, (or probably), any Government are absolutely clueless. I despair. As a very vocal local here says, "The *loody country's gone to hell in a hand cart." Nuff said?

Thank you, Roger - I was beginning to feel a bit outnumbered on the other thread!

I was wondering if Thommo's suggestion above that "we will all sell our cars To Mr. M Mouse of Cheese Lane, Never Never Land and register the transfer with DVLA" could be amended to "Mr J Clarkson, Etc" - the thought of all those V5's hitting his mat, announcing new ownership of assorted old Toyotas and Datsuns certainly hits my schadenfreude button!

Hi guys.

This is my first, any probably most defiantely not the last :). I recently brought a peugeot 306 1.8 XT L reg, 83,000 miles. I have done a lot of work on the car and yet i still have a problem with it. The car is petrol and runs with a catalyic convertor.

Basically when i start the car from cold it seems very noisy, even for a peugeot. However prior to this car i did own a Vauxhall Corsa SRI which was very quiet. Once I start driving away I find the engine to be noisy, a slight knocking sound (nothing major). When I sit at a traffic light for example the car judders and idle really bad. I have changed all the sparkplugs, oil etc. Once thing I have noticed is when i turn the engine off the rev counters goes down to about 200-400 revs and not zero. When you turn he engine on it goes upto the correct revs about 1000. Could this cause a problem?

I have de-greased all the engine so i can see any issues but cannot find a thing, im stumped. Im off to the garage toady to get a top engine mount fitted and 2 of the ball joints replaced and we will see what that does to it.

The garage said that this is common in all peugeot's but he also said they have checked over all the engine and cannot find anything else wrong about from engine mount and ball joints.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I will let you know what its like after garage work.

I've read comments on premature clutch wear on new Laguna's, mine's just starting to slip at 85,000 on a "motorway miles" 1.9DCI of 2001. Does anyone have any views on this and also I'm planning to change the unit myself, any tips or wise words of warning!

Thanks Read more

85K of motorway miles dosent sound much - my Audi A4 has almost 150K and is still on the original

On my way back from Blackbushe auction today, relativly light traffic 'till getting off M25 & onto M1,virtual standstill.

Well it is Friday afternoon, time to relax & unwind for the weekend, or so driver & passenger in the Range Rover in front of me thought. Windows open & waving rather large hand made smokes. The stench from the herbal material they were using was tremendous - easily beating the exhaust fumes 10 times over!!

As I was on my own & not hands free, I was unable to call the Police to make them aware of the situation. They wouldn't have got there in time, though. As soon as we were moving again, the Range Rover found EVERY opportunity to rapidly lane hop to the Hemel junction!

Didn't see any Police, 'till I was nearly in Luton town centre, not much point in taking up their time, then, was there?!!!

I'm biast though - I don't even smoke!

Hi

What do people think about the "new" rules whereby learners have to learn how to perform oil/brake-fluid/PAS/coolant level checks as part of their test?

On paper, I think it's a good idea - people have an idea and an awareness of weekly/daily checks they have to do to make sure their vehicle doesn't brake down.

My concern though is that all the learner has to do is learn whereabouts under the bonnet the caps/levels are on the instructors car and repeat them parrot fashion. This would be great if every car had them in the same place, but more than likely those who couldn't be asked to check levels anyway will look under the bonnet of their new car and think "Woh! This is nothing like the instructors car, too confusing to me!" and promptly shut the bonnet. Worse still "Aha! looks a bit different to me but this cap marked 'P.A.S.' is in about the same place as I fill the radiator with water - yes, that must be it! Looks a bit low to me ..." , with dire concequences.

Why not get learners to learn a few of the generally universal signs/stickers manufacturers use. For example, a cap with a circle with lines either-side and an explanation mark in the middle is the brake fluid, and it almost always has a big black dustbin-lid-shaped servo behind it.

End of rant!

sorry for asking for help on my first post , but i really need the help.

i've got an F reg Astra Belmont 1.8 GLSi.

both of my brake lights do not come on at all when i press the brake pedal.

i've changed the bulbs , checked the fuses and replaced the brake pedal switch.

the 2 cables that come from the switch obviously go somewhere to pick up the electricity to power the lights , has anybody got any idea where or what it goes to.
