i have a 1.6 zetec auto, 13 months old, this is my first auto and i'm not to sure on how to tell if the unit is 'slipping'and just want to be sure before taking it to the dealers.
when slowing at a give way junction or turning a corner and then applying the throttle again the revs increase before the speed picks up. is this normal for an auto. in every other driving condition it seems fine

Dear All,

Does anyone know when the new Passat will be on sale in the UK ?

I have seen some preliminary PICs of it on a German Web site and it looks quite nice, actually a shrunk down Phaeton by the looks of it.... Read more

I have a Renault Clio expression 2002. In the last month the car has had a new clutch, rear brakes shoes, a faulty coil and new wiring connection the gas sensors. The car has been into my local renault dealership 5 times. Am I being unreasonable to think that this is unsatisfactory. Is ther somewhere independant I can write to to complain as Renault Uk are not very interested.

I am thinking of selling it, what small car would make a a reliable replacement.

If you go through clutches at that rate, you should consider an auto. Of course if it's not your fault...

Hi

I had left my citroen ax in the driveway for a couple of days and when I tried to start it today it took about 4/5 attempts to start. I recently had to leave it in because it was overheating, and the mechanic fitted a new thermostat, flushed out the radiator and engine coolant and fitted a new radiator cap.

Since then I have heard what sounds like running water coming from beneath my feet particularly when I accelerate, although there is no wet patch beneath the pedals. I also had to top up the coolant levels with about 1/2 litre, though they were all topped up and checked when the car was fixed - on 22nd May. I can't see any visible leaks coming from below the car.

Has anyone had any similar problems to this? If this may be a big job to fix, I would be seriously thinking of getting rid of the car, as it's already been to the mechanic 4 times already this year!! :-(

Many Thanks in advance!

Pretty sure this is an air lock - my 2001 Punto had similar gurgling noised from the heater region. Trapped wind (!).
I managed to bleed it out by gentle persuasion and topping up the radiator with the air bleed screws open, massaging the coolant hoses to release the air. If work has been done recently on the cooling system then this would suggest the system not re-filled correctly. If could possibly cause starting problems, perhaps a temperature sender not getting correct reading? Get the coolant sorted out first then see if the starting problem persists.

Some ( expletive deleted) little thief disappeared with all four wheeltrims off my company Vectra on Sunday night from outside my house.

Its not the cost although its around £80 to replace , its just the principle. Why can't they keep their theiving mitts to themselves.

Is it worth even bothering the police with something like this or should I just pay up - and whats to stop them coming back and nicking 'em again ? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Granted it won't stop the determined thief, but it would slow them down a bit and would put off an opportunist.

Dude - {P}

Is there any wonder that buyers of ex fleet and many privately owned turbo diesels run into turbo and fuel pump problems at less than 50k miles on the used car market, and then get an adverse opinion of the vehicle as a result of abuse by the previous owner/driver.???

After visiting BMW forums for some years, it is now common practice for most turbo diesels to run 17k to 20k before oil changes, which (Like H.J.) I believe is far too long for the long term durability of the engine and its main components.

In addition, many are now fitted with tuning boxes and the extra performance used to the full, to add further stress on the engine/turbo. These units can then be removed without trace from an unsuspecting buyer on the used market.

Thankfully I was fortunate to buy my turbo diesel from new, but I would`nt touch one second hand without documentary evidence of oil changes at 8k max.!!! Read more
