Not yours... OURS!
Midnight last night the petrol price was due to rise by 38c a litre - pushing it close to R5/litre*. Paraffin (essential for heating and cooking in rural areas - and it's winter here) due to go up 42c/litre.
So what happens? the govt, who control the price anyway, step in and say "Too inflationary. Can't be done. The people wqill suffer", and dipped into the coffers to make up the shortfall.
Increase now a more-affordable 30c for both petrol and paraffin.
Nice to know WE have thinking politicians...

I saw a funny thing today. It was a "Nissan Micra. Bizarre little car, barely room for two adults and two small children if they all breathed in and had no luggage. It certainly struggled to accelerate when we got to an NSL sign.
No idea why anyone would want one. Perhaps it's some form of penance? Read more
NoWheels I've never tried driving a Transit - although I'd like to.
But hey, we do the best we can with the equipment we have, huh?
As for the handbag thing - well it's good to have a laugh - but to be totally honest, no-one here has ever made me feel inferior for being female! I honestly think we are very fortunate here, and that we get really good treatment which maybe other sites wouldn't give.
That is probably why you and I come back here. I like your posts, your comments. Maybe you can be controversial, I dunno, but I still like what you write.
So, I hope you keep it up. I come when I can - hope you do too.

Someone I know (and no, it isn't me) has just shown me the coolant tank which six months and 2,500 miles ago, they unknowingly topped up with brake fluid as it was near the minimum. I suggested they quickly get it drained, flushed and refilled. My question on their behalf is what kind of damage will this have done? The car is a 3 year old, 13,000 miles, Clio 1.6 16v petrol (import). It hasn't given any problems at all even since this "incident" which I find strange but I'm no expert. Thanks very much in anticipation. Read more
Never heard of that! Oh well, you live and learn!

I live in south east london and with all this talk of price increases I thought we might be able to help each other by reporting where we can by our precious fuel as cheaply as possible,is that possible mods? Read more
The station selling petrol at 109.9p a litre is in the Blackpool area.
Actually there's little point in trying to find the cheapest petrol in your area - all the stations charge the same price and even if you did actually manage to find it a bit cheaper, it's going to cost more to drive there, fill up and drive back again.
Incidentally, a certain Telegraph journalist reviewing the papers on Sky TV the other night, laid into the Mail's front page lead story about petrol being about to reach £4 a gallon.
He scoffed at the story, said he had been told that petrol was actually "about £2.70 a gallon" at the moment and asked how anyone could work out the price by the gallon? To add further insult, the Mail gave the answer to his question in its first paragraph of the story.
The answer's simple, of course. A gallon is as near as makes little difference 4.5 litres, so multiplying the price per litre by 4.5 reveals that when it reaches a fraction over 88p a litre, then the £4 a gallon mark has been reached.
Well when I say knocking, its actually a cross between a knock a squeek and a rattle coming from ( I think ) the gearbox area when first pulling away and if traveling at low speed lifting off the gas and ten putting it back on.
Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? the car is still under warrenty and is due for a service in about 2 months.
Thanks Read more
Is this perhaps just a small amount of free rotational movement somewhere in the drivetrain, in which case it's common (normal almost) and probably nothing to worry about. As it's still under warranty take it back to the dealer to be on the safe side.

L'escargot by name, but not by nature.
Can the experts out there (=in here) say whether there is anything for or against venting the cooling system 10 mins after stopping a hot engine, to purge most of the 'air' above the coolant? Seems to me that the running pressure would then be slightly lower, presumably a good thing? There would then be a partial vacuum when cold - good idea or not? Read more
Not good, The pressure lifts the boiling point of the water thus avoiding bubbles to be generated at hot spots in the engine, normally in the head. What you see on the gauge is the avarage water temp i.e. 88 or so. but areas of the head excess 100 degrees and unpressurised water woulf 'Kettle' and cause air to be generated in the water system. When the engine cools a vacuum is not created and most rad caps have a one way valve in them to avoid this as it would collapse the hoses and stop water circulating in a cold engine. Regards Peter
I contacted TfL a few weeks ago to point out that in my opinion the redesign of a traffic island on the Seven Sisters Road created a hazard.
Came back from holiday yesterday an found that 18 inches had been shaved off the island.
Maybe they DO listen! Read more
Hi. My key fob for my M reg Omega has died on me. Unfortunately the local Vauxhall dealership haven't got any replacements in stock as they have been on back order since December!! As I can't start the car without using the fob does anyone know if/where I can get a replacement asap.
Thanks

The infra red remote doesn't have to be working to allow the car to operate normally; mine gave up the ghost weeks ago.
The ignition key itself needs a correctly coded chip in it; but most high street kay cutting companies will copy an existing key for 20 - 25 quid.

The diesel fuel contains vital lubricant that the high pressure injection pump needs. I would get in touch with your Landrover dealer for advice. Modern fuel pumps for diesels are very expensive.
Even with current fuel prices, I would get the tank syphoned and start again. You may get away with it.
