For some time the steering on my 2.6 Omega auto estate has felt a bit imprecise. When balancing the wheels recently the tyre fitter suggested there might be excessive play in the steering. (No,he was not looking for work.) There is no obvious play when moving. When stationary with the engine switched off there is about an inch and a half of play. Is there any adjustment anywhere, or does anyone have any suggestions how I can check this or what may be the problem? Read more
I seem to have a problem with excessive condensation in the cabin of a three month old Nissan Micra 323.
Previous threads lead to changing the "pollen filter" apparently this model does not have one.
No water leaks have been detected.
What is the solution to my problem?
Thanks.

Any parked car with sun on it in the weather we are getting, will have clear windows on the sunny side and fogged ones on the shady side. Guaranteed.
I have trouble with my VW Bora.
After a short spell of snow and a drop in temperature to -1, in less than 1 hour, all of the doors became frozen up.
Moisture gets between the rubber seal and metal door frame - the seal freezes solid.
Is there a solution to this problem.
Thanks. Read more
Rather than putting anything greasy on the weatherseals, I suggest a thin overall application of talc. Just like they used to put on puncture patches. Stops rubber sticking to things and also retards deterioration.
It shows that we have the most highly taxed petrol in the world and the second most expensive overall.
Of course there are a few things that this doesn't compare, the French have diesel that is much cheaper than petrol so its not a complete picture.
been driving the wifes mondeo tonight its a 99T 1.8 turbo diesel noticed that the oil light flickers for a few seconds when you go round corners and roundabouts. its never done this before, i checked the oil level and its fine also it had a oil change about 3000 miles ago. the car has done 70000 miles. the engine sounds fine and runs ok with no other problems so i'm worried its about to go bang!
anyone with any ideas what it could be?
thanks.. Read more

I recently had 2 trade-in offers on my Golf GT TDi PD130 against a Honda Accord Tourer. These were £9800 and £10250.
I was somewhat taken aback by the low offer and thought I would use the Glass's valuation service, linked from this site, to check these offers.
Glass's came up with a valuation of £11650 for my car ( trade in 'excellent'- 46000 miles )
Because of the very large discrepancy between the Glass's valuation and the actual offers I received, either Glass's is hopelessly optimistic or the dealers are trying it on by starting with very low offers.
Have any other backroomers used the Glass's link from this site
and had a similar result? Are actual trade in offers usually grossly below book or should I hold out for an offer nearer to £11650?

Thanks mlf,MM,HJ etc. I'll visit a few more Honda dealers and see if it's Honda dealers that are the problem.
From the replies I've received I suspect the problem is a combination of 1)short supply of Accord diesels; 2)a hard-nosed appproach by Honda dealers; 3)the fact that the dealer will not want to retail my car through their site and will rely on getting offers from a third party dealer.
I hope I don't have to buy another VW to get a good trade-in!
Please, is there anyone out there who ownes or owned, a Panda Selecta from new, either privately or perhaps as a Mobility car?

Hi
Has anyone seen the new Kwik Fit advert? The one with the tyres falling in a row. I know this may seem really trivial but after seeing this advert a few times I am sure the chap talking says "Typewriters are down at Kwik Fit". Am I missing some sort of clever pun here or did Kwik Fit have a limited budget when recording this advert?

Fair enough DD. Sorry about that.
I have a baffling fault with my scooter. It is a Yamaha majesty 125cc automatic transmission that was registered in 2002 with only 17,000 miles.
The problem is that as I accelerate from stand still, I get a judder from the clutch. I have managed to have it temporarily cured whereby the clutch plates have been cleaned. However, as the scooter stands outside in freezing conditions, the judder reappears as bad as before.
The clutch as far as I am aware is a dry clutch. I was wondering if anyone might know how I can tackle this problem.
Another question: are gel bike batteries better than sealed normal batteries. Do they give more cranking power?
Also, how could a car battery be put into a bike. I have space for the battery, but the length of the leads are too short and would not fit onto the cars terminals. But are there modified ones I can buy somewhere?
Many thanks in advance for your replies.

Just for your info, most bikes with manual gearboxs have multiple clutch plates that are bathed in oil (wet clutch) to keep them cool.
Steve.

Performance will vary from vehicle to vehicle. I'd personally avoid the Conti's as I had two full sets on my 406 and experienced disappointing rates of wear (not poor, just disappointing). At the last change, I opted for Goodyear NCT's and have had half as much again out of them as I ever got from the Conti tyres. No appreciable difference in either grip or noise between the two brands. I think that you need a recommendation not just from existing users of that brand/model of tyre, but from people who have experience of their performance on your specific vehicle.

the problem is that as there are about 6 joints on the steering geometry a small amount of play in each will result in the wheels going into Toe Out which wears the tyres on the inside of the tyre the problem is more prevalent on the large engine cars ie 2.5 3.0 its the thrust of the forward motion making the tyres toe out at speed. Sorry if the answer is not in queens english but that is how it was explained to me by a mechanic in the trade, all police cars are overtracked for this very reason if you drive at speed on the motorway it will stop the wear on the inside I have Avon zz3 on my car and they are brilliant far better than the previous michelins
