Has anyone taken out a policy with these companies? I like to find out as much as I can to determine if it is something I require.
I've looked at warrantydirect and am a little bit confused. One of the points listed under the FULL PROTECTION is "Cover against damage caused by wear and tear",my understanding is if your brake disk were wearing out and it somewhat damaged the brake pads, then they will replace your brake pads and disc.
After going thought the online quote, viewing the policy details it says:
Standard Cover
Protection against the cost of parts and labour following a mechanical or electrical failure, cover against failure of a part or a part that is about to fail causing even greater damage including those parts that have failed due to wear and tear.
Claim limit = £5,000
Excess = £15
Why Warranty Direct
We only offer warranty cover without Wear and Tear exclusion, which means that if a covered part fails and is worn you will be covered and no Consequential loss to covered parts exclusion, which means that if a failure is caused by a non-insured part you will be covered
No other warranty offers this level of cover
This is where I am confused.Early on it says "Cover against damage caused by wear and tear" then later it says (my understanding) something entirly different.
Please can someone clear this for me. Thank you. Read more

If you know the name and the area where it happened then you can try asking Mags Clerks Office for the old Court List/Register and go through them.
Local Rags tend to publish Court Cases, most have a Library with names?

I am off to Florida for 8 days in March. I did the same last year.
Last year the car hire was £138 for a week. This year the same car looks like it will be about £170 for 8 days. Given the dollar has dropped like a stone over the year, I don't see how this occurs. Except, of course, I am going to UK based companies (or US companies UK site) where they are quoting me in £££s, and I suspect the price has little real relevance to the actual cost - more relevance to the amount they think I will pay.
I am having difficulty finding an American based site where I can understand the insurance requirements, and pay on dollars.
So... what do you reckon on me turning up at Tampa airport and just walking along the desks to see what I can find? Or is pre-booking generally cheaper or easier? Or maybe I could arrange an American mate to do the booking for me?
(btw I just booked 3 nights at a hotel through an agency - was cheaper than booking direct with the hotel, and the hotel would only take 4 night minimum booking...also, was unable to match price on last year's Air Miles flight - £62!! plus a few miles) Read more
FiF,
We have a misunderstanding!
The purpose of Smokie's original post was to find a car that he could pay for in dollars:-
"So... what do you reckon on me turning up at Tampa airport and just walking along the desks to see what I can find? Or is pre-booking generally cheaper or easier? "
The discussion in other posts was on the pros and cons of renting in USA or prepaying in UK.
In his subsequent post there was nothing to indicate the Hertz rental quote was obtained through UK.
My warning, as I stated, was on the assumption that he was still renting in Florida paying in US$.
I have found all of the major rental companies in USA to be trouble free.

My son has a 1.3S 1989 VW Polo with a piersburg \"E carb and suddenly it has decided to overfuel when hot. It is probably the choke not comming off but how does the choke on this carb work, Water temp, a sensor or a heating element. Any help appreciated. Regards Peter Read more
Got a look at it yesterday and the earth strap form the carb to the body had fractured thus the Thermal choke timere was not kicking in. Simple One. Regards Peter
With many cars having multiplex wiring and computers that control one thing being able to control another, here are some of my ideas.
1, If you leave a door open and try to lock the car, the horn will beep to warn you.
2, Dipped beams switch to side lights when stationary for a period and opened the door. It really annoys me when drivers keep their lights on while chatting to passengers as they drop them off.
3, How about brake lights that go off after so long stationary, or a warning buzzer to alert the driver that they are wrecking their brake discs?
Anyone got any more ideas? Maybe we will see some on the next big Citroen! Read more
Unless I missed something here.I noticed no one mentioned warped due to hard braking then hitting a puddle or driving rain. The pads are always in close contact with the disc. Unless I am mistaken most disc`s that are hot may after braking warp due to sudden cooling. only exeptions are air cooled double discs that can resist due to thickness and materials used. But then I may be wrong? Can`t see it happening at standstill foot on brake
Hi all
I'm in the process of selling my Saxo, and I'm thinking of getting the engine and bay steam cleaned.
My question is, is this safe to do so?
Thanks all. Read more
I would advise against steam cleaning on a modern car with so much electronics under the bonnet. I've certainly never done mine, and I wouldn't, either.
Good results can be obtained by applying neat washing-up liquid, using a paintbrush to loosen the engine dirt, then washing off with a low pressure hose, or a watering can.
You can even leather off the bits you can get to with an old leather!
Replaced both front tyres (originally Kumho Ecsta Supra) with Pirelli P6000s after a puncture. The difference in performance between the tyres is quite incredible:
- The grip is many times better, particularly when accelerating quickly from stop. The traction control system also seems to work much better with these tyres, though is much less likely to activate unless I try really hard.
- The noise is much reduced - no audible noise from the front tyres at all now (there's no wind noise and little engine noise either).
- The ride is much smoother - especially on rough or harsh road surfaces.
- No understeer when going around roundabouts on a wet road surface.
- Not much difference in handling, but the Kumhos were slightly better if anything.
I imagined that there would be some difference between £40 tyres and £80 tyres, but I didn't expect it to be so significant.
Only one problem though - I feel vibration through the steering wheel at 70 mph! I suspect I might be taking them back to KwikFit for re-balancing, if that's the problem? I have noticed from other posts that Pirelli P6000s are difficult to balance, but I was under the impression that this had improved.

I'm not sure if it would make a difference to the balancing, but I can tell you that it will cause less damage to the alloy than external balancing, which damages the laquer or something...

If you book a ticket with a specified departure time, can you get on an earlier train (say 1 hour), assuming of course you're at the terminal in time and there is availability?

A related question to which I couldn't find a definitive answer....
In France, if requested, do you need to produce the UK "photocard" driving license AND the "paper" license, or is the photo bit enough?

Veyr quick question, is changing a headlamp bulb in a 97 Vectra an easy job? Or is it worth paying Halfords to do?

Hiya...
Toddled off to tax Polo today, realised on the way that the MOT wasn't actually in the glove compartment but must be somewhere else at home.
Assuming I find it, and tax the car on Saturday (wont be able to do it on Friday), am I going to get fined? The tax runs out on the 31st... but by the end of the 31st, the car will be taxed.
Am I panicking over nothing?

Rant
The way things are going round our way there won't be any Post offices left.
PoloGirl - young lady - Don't knock the oldies - one day you will be a whingeing pensioner in your wrinkly stockings and smelling of cats. You will complain because they have closed down your local post office and its a 5 mile bus ride to the next town to get your pension.
Seriously - thats the way things are going , the post offices want paperless transactions and apparently take no account of local feelings when arbitrarily closing down your local office.
Same with the banks - no idea of customer service.
End of Rant.
The Con Loss exclusion would normally say that if an uninsured part failed and caused damage to an insured part, that would not be covered.
Wear and Tear exclusion would normally say that if something failed through wear and tear, then it was not insured and if in failing it damaged an insured part, then that was not covered either.
What you're quoting suggests that neither of those exclusions will apply.
However, HJ is correct. Ring Warranty Direct and ask them. Or even better, write to them to get a written response. I would be interested in that response.
