My son has a 1.3S 1989 VW Polo with a piersburg \"E carb and suddenly it has decided to overfuel when hot. It is probably the choke not comming off but how does the choke on this carb work, Water temp, a sensor or a heating element. Any help appreciated. Regards Peter

Hi Peter,
Suggest you search the archives here, as problems with the 2E carb are well documented !
The choke is controlled by a bi-metallic spring which is coolant-heated, but also has an electric element. It is not uncommon for the coolant flow to become restricted due to blockages in the feed or the return into the inlet manifold. Check that the choke heater unit housing is getting warm at the same rate as the hoses to the interior heater.
Regards, Adam.
Whatever is rightly done, however humble, is noble.

Got a look at it yesterday and the earth strap form the carb to the body had fractured thus the Thermal choke timere was not kicking in. Simple One. Regards Peter
