I have noticed of late how many threads duplicate something alredy started in another thread, so would like to make a suggestion:
Can the Backroom take a leaf out of the Support Tool I use in my daily work, and place the Forum Search at the head of the New Topic dialogue window, please?
I think part of the reason posters don't use Forum Search more today is that it's buried away on the right hand side of the window, and people see the (poor) site search before the (excellent) forum search.
You never know, this might make life easier for you Mods!
Cheers.
PS - Yes, I did search on 'Forum Search' in the Discussion Forum to see if this exact idea had been suggested before! After three pages of results, I considered it okay to stop trawling! ;-)

My wife purchased a "Y" reg LDV Convoy with a genuine 15000 miles from a reputable trader some 150 miles away just over six months ago. Prior to purchase the vehicle had an inspection from a national motoring organisation and all faults ( in this case all minor ) were put right and the vehicle was supplied with a new MOT and a service. At the time of purchase the vehicle had two sets of black keys. Having read the manual I now know that it should have a red master key which is needed when others are made. It is too late to get any satisfaction from either the trader or the organisation which inspected it. The local LDV dealer is less than helpful and quotes a huge sum to provide a new red key and new locks etc. Any help or advice ?

When i ever i start the engine during the evenings or nights, i notice my passenger side headlight falls asleep. I end up getting out of the car, and giving the lense a tap to make it come on. I was inspecting the inside wiring and the bulb. I was quite surprised to find out that the wiring for the bulb socket looks kind of burnt/fried. The outer sheath of the cabling is flaking away. The bulbs im using were bought German & Swedish and are 55w. Read more
As previously mentioned in another thread of yours, I've amended the subject header yet again, as typing soley in CAPS is considered SHOUTING at people. Besides that, it is also one of my pet hates.

Front wheel - possibly wheels - on our 20k mile 1.6 Scenic squeal when setting off. Seems to be mainly but not solely when vehicle is driven off when cold, especially pulling away on slight incline. Any ideas if this is likely to be a hubs/bearing problem dealer can fix under warranty? Read more
Thanks for all this input, doesn't seem to be a problem apart from the noise which isn't excessive. Will leave and see how things develop, maybe mention it when next service due in about 6 months or so.
Having heard nothing but warnings over the last 2 days about the impending cold snap, just wondering what I should stock in addition!
Unfortunately scheduled to have a 2 hour journey Tuesday morning when there are chances of snow.
One suggestion Ive had is to slightly decrease the air pressure in the front tyres ,to 26(?psi).Apparently it gives you better control in slippery conditions.
And the rest ie extra warm clothes, food in view of the possibility of a long wait.
Does anyone know whether decreasing the air pressure actually works?
Any other suggestions and precautions welcome.
Thanks

"Give Way"? Wait....I know this one...give me a minute
My colleague has a G reg MX5 which has begun to play up.
There is a light that is lit up, which is not mentioned in the handbook. It is to the left of the handbrake (which on the MX5 is on the left hand side of the centre console). Does anyone have any ideas?
We are not sure if the mysterious noises are connected. The noise is apparently like a "walkie-talkie", in other words a staticy hiss with intermittent squeaks. This happens quite a lot and comes and goes during the duration of a journey.
The light and noise seem to be connected and comes on after the noise comes (but then again the two seem to sometimes run independently of each other).
Any thoughts welcome!

Non standard.
An import with UK fitted rear fog lamp warning light???
Alarm/imobiliser?
Dunno about the noise though.
Congrats to the car salesman who in front of the eyes of my 18 year old daughter (and fortunately those of my wife and I) turned a £4000 retail Polo into a £6000 car with only the aid of a computer screen and his manager behind the scenes. This trick was performed by means of various useless insurances and was before he moved in with the coup de grace, his highly inflated finance figures. We ended up with a cost for a 3 year old base Polo that was higher than the What Car on the road price for a brand new Seat Arosa.
Of course I cannot reveal the name of the dealership, but here in the North East the boss of the company is well known for his religious devotion. Nuff said. Read more
The silly thing is with those deals,is that when you as the sensible punter walk away, just like a bus, another one comes along very soon after. So i guess he won't starve, just can't eat steak&caviar every night.
Apart from the jerky auto in my car, ive also noticed the windows fuse keeps blowing after every 6 weeks or so. Theres a 10amp fuse which runs the reverse lights, electric windows and electric mirrors. The fuse stays fine, then out of the blue just blows. If I rumage my hands through the wires behind the fuse box,(i dont know why, but this tends to work) i notice the fuse stops blowing. Im happy for about 6 weeks, then im back to square one. Someone did mention a faulty reverse light switch, but i have no clue where it goes.

As I remember they did have a problem.1 as aprilia said and 2 the door A pillar to front o/s n/s door the wiring is very tight and tends to stretch causing a short or high resistance
in cable a sudden as you would by operating the window causes the fuse to blow.could be wrong but have come across it before.and in case you did not know the cable`s break inside the insulation so it is not possible to see it from outside
It was more luck i found it.as I said may be wrong
Looking for some help/advice from you all out there.
I bought a 98 E240 Elegance estate with 125K miles up last October.
Car has full history and in excellant condition.
After christams when the car had done around 1K mile ropund trip I checked oil and needed to add a little and found creamy deposit on the oil filer cap. I took the car straight back to dealer who said if it was not using water (which it hasn't), then it was unlikely to be head gasket and that all manner of other reasons could explain the deposit. He cleaned it said to come back if there was a problem.
Any thoughts/comments similar experienece welcome. Thanks
Mark

It could be as simple as short runs, lazy or defective thermostat (all combined with winter!)or the more expensive head gasket.
There a re a couple of cheap tests that could help diagnose head gasket failure but it is more of an art than a science. Test expansion tank for products of combustion with exhaust analysis sniffer and pressure test expansion tank to check applied pressure held. Both are really garage jobs unless you happen to have the kit.
Hi, i have a 1996 vw golf vr6 auto. Ive noticed recently the engines always over revs slightly before changing gears. Also, the car is jerky when the engine is cold. Is this a common thing on autos or does something need renewing. I wish i could check the auto transmission fluid, but i cant see an ATF dipstick under the bonnet. However, i have noticed a red dip stick undernearth the engine, not far from the oil sum or oil filter. I tried to pull it out, but it refuses to move. Any ideas? Read more
