I read a thread on here a few weeks ago saying that Fiat UK were no longer intending to import the revamped Barchetta, but according to their website it is availible in "limited quantities" and lo and behold I got my What Car? through the post today and it has a road test of the revamped Barchettta in it. So, Whats going on? Read more

Oscar the omega

Hello,

I just wondered if any Omega lovers out there would be able to tell me whether the 51 plate 2001 2.2CD petrol Omega I have is chain or belt cam driven.

Its quite noisy when cold and sounds like the usual stuck chain tensioner problem, but my local Vx dealer says it's belt.

I could have sworn the 2.2 petrol lump was now chain, and I'm too tight to buy a Haynes manual... Read more

John S,

Cheers for info. Looks like I got let off being charged for ½ litre of oil from last years bill then, (which works out at £2.82).

Adam's Renault

Can anyone help.
I have a 98 R reg Laguna RT with front fog lights. They have stopped working suddenly. I have changed the bulb and relay but neither has helped.
Has anyone else had a similar problem or know of a solution without the need to pay Renault a small mortgage of £150 for an inspection plus parts?

Thanks. Read more

Dynamic Dave

Thanks for you input.

For all others that think they may also need to tell me not to drive with them on thanks also.

The reason for the original question is that I have had the car 3 years and used them twice. I am now selling the car and it has been picked up that they don't work.
Problem is with the reported problems with the electrics on these cars it begs the question 'what else is wrong?'

Any help anyone can provide would be greatly aprreciated.
Will check wires in stalk - thanks.

Pal of mine has a 2001 Accord. Cruise has stopped working. Does anyone know the pinout of the multpin connector on the cruise module so that we can start checking things out.

In anticipation. Read more

Thanks for the feedback - I'll try a little gentle levering on the switch (I had thought that one needed rear access to depress the retaining lugs top & bottom).

These have been introduced on some bus routes in London now. I don't know how many passengers they can carry, but it surely can't be that many more than a normal double decker - but of course they occupy that much more roadspace. Meanwhile, I read somewhere (Evening Standard I think) that average bus occupancy rates are only 25%. So, surely what we need is smaller buses, not larger ones? What exactly is the point of these vehicles? Read more

There must be a trolleybus manufacturer somewhere in the EU - they are in service near me at Limoges, France, and I can't believe they are imported from the Far East! Next time I'm in the city I will see if I can spot a maker's name on one.
Back along, I was driving down a country lane in the middle of nowhere about 30 miles from Limoges when I came across a little scrapyard. As well as a couple of Renault Dauphines (remember them?) and some other bits and pieces he had an old Limoges trolleybus. Ever since then I've been wondering why on earth anybody would tow an electric bus 30 miles into the countryside just to scrap it.
If there are any trolleybus buffs reading this I think I have an emailable pic...

On my 2001 VW Passat there's a rattle from inside the centre air vent (above the radio). I need to remove the grille and vent but can't find any way of doing so. Does anyone know how to remove the vent without destroying anything please? Read more

On my 2001 Passat I've given up trying to solve rattles. They breed like rabbits.

Yesterday, in an unfamiliar area, I got stuck in a bus lane. I saw a space to my right and eased gently over to it. The guy behind was so determined not to let me in that he accelerated and hit the car in front of him. Fortunately (!) this was fitted with a tow bar. What fun.

No serious damage to anything, but Paul Ripley always says don't fight someone for a piece of road. Read more

I recently went in to get my 20,000 mile (Diesel)service done at my local Pug dealer and came out for a bill of £230...for basically an oil change.

Why does it cost so much for so little (I even had to ask nicely to get my tyres rotated).

Is it me or is it just a dealer rip off? Read more

It's a good, reliable work horse, after all that work that was done to it. Go on, admit it!

Okay - it smells like it's been sat on a farm for six months and could do with more a gap between reverse and first, but hey, £100? That's only the price of 45 pints!

Congrats, Mike - do hope it's a permanent solution, though. I had a few problems with the washers on my Xantia and the reservoir was in a similar position - behind arch liner way down below offside headlight - a pain to get at. Once or twice I tore everything out and cleaned pipes, terminals etc and thought it was hunky dory only for it to conk out again a week or so later. Eventually I came to the conclusion that it was sucking muck out of the bottom of the tank and blocking the pump because the strange thing was the back washers would be fine and the front ones wouldn't work. Both were served by the same pump!!!! I reckoned the pump was reversed to serve the back and in so doing it pushed the debris past a non return valve somewhere. To this day I'm not sure if that was the answer but eventually it sorted itself and worked fine thereafter.

I wondered too if mixing types of windscreen wash caused a reaction that produced 'gunk'. Anybody come across this?
