Pal of mine has a 2001 Accord. Cruise has stopped working. Does anyone know the pinout of the multpin connector on the cruise module so that we can start checking things out.

In anticipation.

You need to check the inputs to the cruise ecu, and if they check out then you can condem the ecu.

According to my '99 shuttle manual, there are 4 pages of data to check that the ecu is getting the correct signals. There's too much to list here, as it lists pin number, the test condition, the desired result, and then the possible cause if the desired result is not obtained. And this is for each of the 14 cavities in the socket.

It should still be under warranty, but if not, your best bet is to buy the factory manual from any Honda dealer for around £90. That manual could pay for itself many times over. Don't mistake it with Haynes type manuals, for instance the a/c section runs to 48 pages, whereas normal manuals run to 1 line:- 'Take to dealer/specialist'.

Thanks - it looks like it only has 6 wires in the connector. From work on other cruise systems (Vauxhall), we reckoned that they might be something like:

12V
Ground
Cruise on/off
ABS Speed input
Two wires for faster/slower/cancel from steering wheel

We will have to check & see if these a Haynes for it.

The car is out of warranty.

Good idea to check operation of brake lights &clutch pedal switch (if man trans) Any prob here will cause inop cruise.

I've already done that. Want to ensure that the signals are getting to the CC unit - hence asking for the pinouts ......

Are you sure it's the cruise ecu you're looking at with only 6 wires? As in addition to those you've listed, there has to also be brake switch input, and vac on and vac dump, and cruise resume.

What are the symptons you're getting?

I doubt you'll get much meaningful info from a Haynes manual, as they just don't usually go into things deep enough, or just show generic wiring diagrams. Why don't you by a Honda manual, then you can be sure to check everything?

Symptoms are that it dosn't work! The fuse is ok though.
The actuator has a mechanical throttle cable coming out of it and a 6 min multi-connector.

Will a dealer sell a manual? I know that Vauxhall ones won't .....

Yes, a dealer will sell you a manual, that's why I suggested you get one, that's how come I've got one, and that's how I know they're about £70.

When you say the actuator has a mechanical throttle cable coming out of it, I guess you're talking about the part under the bonnet? If so, that is only an actuator that uses vacuum to move the cable. For the shuttle it only has a 3 pin connection here. The ecu with the 14 pin connector is under the dash and sends signals to the actuator (and recieves signals from the steering wheel controls), and it's at this point that checks need to be made. Are you sure it's a factory fit unit? Aftermarket units use a mechanical actuator that has the 'brains' all in the same unit.

When you say the symptoms are that it doesn't work, I kind of guessed that. For instance, does the LED on the switch light up, when you set it does the idiot light in the cluster come on, steady speed not held etc. According to the manual there are 3 fuses to check, but of course may be different for later cars.

My Accord is late '98. Not much help to you I fear, just another instance of the same? problem. The tell-tale led on the master switch illuminates, but the steering wheel controls have no effect, the instrument panel lamp does not come on. I thought that there was only a single fuse (which is OK). Any advice gratefully received. I asked my Honda service garage if they could "have a quick look at it", they reported "nothing obvious, may be the master switch". This seems to be almost impossible to remove for a quick check, without dismantling the dashboard. Thanks in anticipation.

The dash light normally comes off the output from the main switch, so it's quite possible the switch is busted. But, you really need the manual to check it properly. Switches normally just lever out from the front.

Thanks for the feedback - I'll try a little gentle levering on the switch (I had thought that one needed rear access to depress the retaining lugs top & bottom).
