MoL has had to give up driving and has put her cherished plate - LOV21 - on retention. Worried that renewal of retention will be overlooked and plate which has been in family since issue in Brum c1951 lost. Would like to put it on wife's car but need a valuation so we are clear with her siblings. Neither of them could use it as one resident in RoI and other does not drive.
Can anyone suggest a source for a written valuation, or venture a guess as to the value.
Thanks in anticipation. Read more
Do you have the Honda RSX/Integra at all in the UK? I know you have the Civic Type-R which we do not have here in the states; we only have the Civic Si. Read more
Sorry to be picky HJ but doesnt the Integra Type R have 187bhp?
I've recently moved to the Lincolnshire coast, where the choice of petrol brand is limited ~ mostly Rix but with a (very) few Total and Q8. Has anyone had any experience of using any of these brands?

welcome to sunny lincs!
These started on the F1 and the Ferraris, now you can get then on all types of cars. I have seen Clarkson and other professional drivers talk about how they don?t like them. But others say they are better than a normal clutch manual because you can switch gears so much faster. Are they really better? Has anyone seen any articles of professional drivers talking about paddle shifters one way or the other? Read more
The paddles are purely the input - the speed of change is down to the mechanics of the gearbox and clutch - the smart is slow the Audi is very quick and will remain so regardless of using paddles or the gearstick. Main issue is you don't need to remove our hands from the wheel to change gear.
I bought a car in early sept and paid for my insurance with another insurance company. Before that I scrapped my old car as it was knackered.
I have no gaps in my insurance as I kept it going with my old insurance company for (my old car) and then changed over to the new company straight away. However I did this before my insurance for my scrapped car was due for renewal on Oct 11 2003.
What\'s the point in paying for car insurance when I don\'t even have the car? I continued using it to drive a family members.
I would have had 3 years no claims up to Oct 11.
My previous insurance company sent a proof of NC for 2 years!
Meaning now I have got to pay another £115 for my insurance with the new company.
It\'s going to take me 2 years now to get back to where I should be.
Why the heck shouldn\'t my NCD be transfered over the the new company? No gaps in insurance.
How unfair! Why should I have to pay for for a whole year when I am really 3 years NC free! More fairer would be to take a % from that year.
That\'s how they get rich!
Nothing I can do?

These problems would be reduced if insurance premiums were based on the number of months NCB rather than the number of whole years. Maybe there is some good reason why this does not happen?
I have a Toyota Hi Ace which I use for my business being self employed.I have had this van for about 4 years now and had full no claims on it.I have never had a claim on my cars, bikes and vans up until this year.
My wife was driving the van one Sunday and turned a bit sharpish off the end of our drive and scraped the sliding side door against a telegraph pole.Said door was past repairing so being insured fully comp made a claim.
Previously, the annual premium has been about £200 or so.I got the renewal today and the insurance company now want just over £1000.I expected a rise due to the claim but this is ridiculous !
I have to ask, what is the point of having insurance above the legal minimum. One could argue that the money saved over the years would pay for even a total write off in a lot of cases.
It would seem that in the event of a claim, the insurance will pay out and in some cases only after a lot of negotiation, but will claw back what they give you ovet the coming years.
Can anybody recommend a less expensive insurance compant ? Read more
If you're a small businessman you could do worse than try NFU (National Farmers' Union) they seem pretty competitive.
Do any of you know if interior parts from the MKII Rover 200 are identical to those in the MKII Rover 400. I am particularly interested to know if the armrest is identical because I want to put one in my MK III 200, but am having no luck finding one in scrapped 200\'s.
I would be greatful for any info because the rear part of the consul on my 200 is broken and flaps about the place!! An armrest would be the perfect replacement, would add a bit of class to!!!
Cheers in advance, Mike. Read more
Thats what I like to hear. So an armrest from a MkII 200 and 400 will fit. Great. Now my quest to find one continues...

In 1998 the Algerian Government newspaper claimed that the Schumacher brothers were born in Algeria, moving to Germany after the deal of their (real)Algerian father. The offical biographies don't mention this.
Does anyone in the BR know anything about this story? Was it widely reported at the time? Read more
According to Ask Jeeves, some of the links lead you to:
"Michael Schumacher was born January 3rd, 1969, to parents Rolf and Elisabeth Schumacher, in Hurt-Hermulheim, Germany. When Schumacher was four years "
"Ralf Schumacher. Born June 30th 1975 in Huerth, Germany .."
"Ralf Schumacher was born on 30th June 1975 in Hürth-Hermülheim, a suburb of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia. "
"Crazy rumour of the week...
An Algerian government newspaper, El Moudjahid, is claiming that Michael Schumacher as well as his brother Ralf Schumacher was born in Algeria.
According to them Michael's real name is Farouk Schumacher and he was born in Algeria in 1969. His brother's real name is Hassan and they were both born in the Algerian town of Blida. They went so far as to say that the Schumacher brothers had an Algerian father and a German mother. When their father died, they allegedly moved to Germany and then changed their names to Michael and Ralf.
A spokesperson for the newspaper said: "This is not a joke, nor a hoax but confirmed information".

Simon,
As you may guess the difference between the quoted prices on any dealer list and the reality of a sale price for you can be miles apart.
And as has been said above it is worth whatever someone will give you on the day.
I would say it's worth nothing like £10,000 and a good deal more than £1,000.
Where it falls between these limits on the day is anyone's guess. It just depends how many dating agency owners want it!!
But having recently helped a contact establish a "true" value for a broadly similar number I'd say nearer £2,500-£3,500.
