My ts2 diesel estate 9000 miles from new has a frequently rough gear change from first to second and aglitch(grate) in the middle of the gate from second to third present from new and improving only slightly.Anyone had similar?Should i reasonably expect the dealer to fix this?
Car otherwise excellent -rattle free with brilliant ride, handling, engine refinement steering and braking particularly .Engine not as flexible as some however so take a careful test drive if you like to accelerate out of roundabouts in third or from 50(as opposed to 60) in top on the motorway!oh and fuel consumption rather less than VAG tdi"s(less than 40 mixed-my old A4 90 consistently 46to 48 even at 167,000 miles!)

david-b,

Yes, I think you should go back to the dealer and they should fix the problem. Forgot to point out that my old Mazda originally suffered from a similar problem even when warmed up, which turned out to be a fault with the synchromesh on 2nd gear. This was fixed by Mazda under warranty, and my car was 2nd hand. So, you shouldn't have any problems getting it fixed on a new car. Mazda certainly used to provide very good dealer service.

Email back to say how you get on!

My TT is overheating and I suspect it is the thermostat, I\'ve dropped it off at the local Skoda garage as it is too far to get it to the nearest Audi Stealer. I have a few questions.
1. Has anyone else got any experience of overheating on similar engines VAG 1.8 Turbo 180bhp.
2. Should I expect it to be the thermostat or could it be the water pump or something else?
3. I haven\'t driven it very far since I have had this problem, how would I know if I have damaged the head gasket?
4. What are Skoda garages like for customer service? I could see the pound signs in his eyes as I drove up, am I likely to get fleeced? Read more

Great site there, Dave

Well, we've all been there.

You place an advert for a car in the local free ads ie Loot, Ad Trader, Admart etc or hwatever covers your area and you wait...

If you're lucky they'll remember to put the ad in.

If you're a bit more lucky you'll get a phone call.

If you're even luckier, you won't break your neck to get to the phone to find it's some bloke trying to SELL you advertising in a publication you've never heard of and no doubt nor have most of the car buying market.

If your even luckier, the 'genuine buyer' will actually turn up and look at the vehicle.

...and if you luck really holds out, he or she will make you a reasonable offer, which you should be sensible enough to accept, and they'll leave a deposit,

...and if someone upstares is really smiling on you, they'll be back with the rest of the cash as agreed and the deal will be done!

YIPPEE!!

Having sold a few cars in my time, my luck, has sometimes held out right to the end, and has been known to run out at any of the above stages.

Hence I thought I had experienced every problem in the above sequence of events - UNTIL TODAY!

When I had decided to go for this Discovery I placed an advert in the Devon and Cornwall Trading Pages (Our more local answer to the likes of LOOT etc), using their website.

I went for a job interview this morning - as a car salesman actually. I got back to find no phone calls. Not to worry, I thought, Everyone will be at work etc. I popped into the newsagent to pick up a copy of Trading Pages - none there.

I went into another shop that sells papers - again none there.

So, having assumed they had sold out I found their number on their website and cave them a call...

...and was promptly greeted by a recorded message telling me that the paper had ceased to be published that week!

Do I get the BR Medal of Honour for the saddest car selling story yet, and am I a jixt for these papers? :)

Answers please, assuming that no one stops this forum of course!

The saga continues

Just got today\'s copy of one of the other freeads papers that is still in print and looked for my ad...

...and looked...

...and looked...

...and loo - well you no doubt get the picture - no ads - well not mine anyway!

So, I phoned them up.

\"Hello, placed ads over your internet site, they have not appeared etc etc any reason why?\"

\"When did you send them in sir, they\'ve probably been lost in the post etc etc\"

Thinks \"Oh dear!\"

\"No I placed them on the internet. They are not in your paper\"

Cut a long story short (CALSS) - another BR acronym is borne!

CALSS - It appears their website and their hard copy paper do not talk to each other very well, and often don\'t talk at all.

Contacted the paper that comes out tomorrow - A sister paper of Auto Trader

\"Just checking to see if the ads are in the paper tomorrow\"

\"Yes they are but have not got your phone number they\'ve got an 07..... number instead. that\'s what happens when you place them over the internet you see sir\"

Oh Pink Fluffy Dice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone living in the South West sees two Xantias at the bottom of a very large cliff - spare me a thought!

No Seriously, the lady offered to put them in Auto Trader for £6 a piece in the under £1000 section. I reduced the price of the more expensive one to qualify!

Epic 80

I did post this as a reply the other day, but it\'s so good, it\'s worth it\'s own thread...

I found a brilliant site the other day:

www.insuresupermarket.com

here you only enter your details once, and the site goes away to all the big name cpmpanies like AXA, churchill,
AA etc. Saved over £100 on my Polo\'s cover!! (This was 25% cheaper!)

Warning: because the site goes away to all the other websites, it does take a while to come back with all the quotes. Well worth it for my saving anyway! Read more

Hi,

I've fallen in love with the idea of getting a porsche 928.

It is from what I can make out, the only supercar for sub 10k, and I love the image (in black, of course). I'd be keen to avoid the 3 speed auto version.

What do you backroomers, in your considerable knowledge and wisdom, think of my idea, and is there any advice or suggestions you guys have to offer?

I am aware that it is sensible to avoid a £4000 car that is a cost-bomb waiting to happen... and I feel I should make it clear at this point that I know nothing about working on a car or it's mechanics etc... apart from installing the stereo!

Any advice appreciated,

anyone got 8 grand they could lend me ????

I'm in the market for a used MPV around the 4K mark, now that kind of money will buy you something with 100k+ on the clock. My dad always used to say 100,000 dont touch it son. Are the likes of the Espace or Previa still good for plenty after this milestone?
Or is it not a milestone anymore?
Any thoughts appreciated.

Its impossible to say really. 100k miles is a big distance and a lot can happen in that time.

A people carrier is likely to have been a family vehicle and seen lots of school runs, trips to football practice etc etc. It could be a very different kettle of fish to a Mondeo thats been sat at 70mph on the motorway all day. You have to make a judgement based on the individual vehicle.

For anyone looking for a cheap source....

Noticed in CostCo yesterday that they are offering Chevron synthetic engine oil
(5W40) for around £11/4litres (plus VAT).

Can't vouch for the quality of the oil but expect its fine for most of us, just
says synthetic, so assume its a ful synth, not semi

I remember it does conform to UK specs, I don't remember which ones exactly, but I would have felt comfortable using it in my Xsara, but I had built up a stock of Total oil at home.
