It's more than just stud pattern - offset is quite important. ISTR MX5 is around 45mm.

Sad that they're so ugly now. The Beta Montecarlo was one of the prettiest cars ever.

Question mondeo rattle
greenway2003

i have just purchased a mondeo mkII 1997 2.0 glx
the car has a rattle from the rear (was there before i replaced the exhaust) and has me baffled any ideas greatfully accepted.thanks Read more

I have found that the rear seat belts can cause a rattle sometimes, depending upon how they are lying.

Try doing them up and see if the rattle goes away. It did for me!

Not sure if this has been discussed on here before - I can't find anything on the search, but what is the general opinion of these hand carwashes that seem to be appearing, certainly around here, a lot recently?

I've used one in Ashton before in my old Tipo that I wasn't too bothered about, and the results seemed OK, but I've read a few things about other car washes that makes me slightly reluctant to trust the Yaris to one. This one uses some pretty big pressure washers to cover the car in some 'snowfoam' which is then rubbed over with a cloth and blasted off with another washer. Seems to be a good job of getting the car clean, and my main reason for thinking about going is to get the full valet done, all carpets vacuumed etc, as it's looking at bit sad inside. It is worth it for about £15, or am I better off trying to do it myself and being sure nothing will get damaged? Read more

Sorry it took so long to reply.
The car wash is called Luigi's and its just as you come into Hoddesdon from the A414 Amwell Roundabout next to the Texaco garage.

Skoda favorit 1300cc carb. model , can anyone please tell me if this engine has a timing belt that needs changing, or do they use a timing chain ? Also I have noticed that the engine is a little rattly when warm , sounds like some of the early fiestas and talbots . Can this be quietend down by adjusting tappets ??
Please any advice please . Read more

The 1.3 doesn't have a belt - it's chain, and tappets.

Rattle wise, there are lots of possible causes, and it's not the quietest of engines anyway.

If you've even the slightest doubt about when it last had a service, do it a favour - give it new oil (fairly basic 10w-40 or 15w-40) and filters.

You might be surprised at the difference it makes.

If you're determined to do the tappets, do it before the oil change, then it's "rule of 9"
I.E. if valve fully open is 3
9 minus 3, adjust 6
etc, keep turning until you've done all 8.
Easier with the plugs out.

inlet 0.25mm
exhaust 0.2mm

Around my neck of the woods there appear to be more and more abandoned cars at the roadside and in supermarket car parks etc etc.

Yesterday, I spotted an abandoned Polo with a removal notice on it. My brother (some of you may know him - Rob the Bus) has just purchased a Golf which needs a new headlight glass. The Polo looks like it fits the bill perfectly. Obviously I would be breaking the law by going and removing a piece of the vehicle, but would anyone really bother? The council are going to come along and move it soon anyway! Is this view too simplistic?!

Around here the LA take a dim view of 'salvaging' bits and pieces from dumped cars. They seem to argue that nicking parts:

a) makes the dumped car more of a hazard and
b) encourages vandalism by attracting those who like nothing more than a good bonfire on public roads.

I tend to agree with them.

Hi,

A question for those who know about the WDS system in Ford dealerships.

I have a Focus \'03 TDdi Zetec. It doesn\'t have a heated screen & now I have a crack in the screen I\'m going to have a heated one fitted.

I\'ve sussed the electrics, switching etc. Before having the screen fitted I wanted to make sure that the relay clicks on and off when its supposed to.

In short - it doesn\'t - despite the wiring all being OK.

It was suggested to me that the GEM module in the Focus may need to be enabled for the feature to work - using WDS in a dealership. Does anyone know if this is true, whats involved and how I ask for it to be done?

Fingers crossed in anticipation.

I am surprised at the number of people that display a national flag on their car. Some people displaying the Cross of St. George like to have ENGLAND printed on the horizontal white section - that I suppose, is for anyone in England who doesn't know which country the St. George's Cross represents.

Then, they display the flag on a foreign car (usually German). Surely if you are so patriotic, that you wish to display the national flag on your car - and I don't have a problem with that - then surely it should be on an English or British car?

Something to do with the Auld Alliance?

Hi Folks,

Has anyone done a 3.1 Trooper front brake disc change?

I can't seem to get past the automatic diff lock assembly which, I surmise, hides a large nut which keeps the hub on the half-shaft splines. Or does it? Do I need a truck-size puller?

The workshop manual for this vehicle costs £800.00. Yep. Honest. Chilton Manuals do a generic one for a number of Isuzu models which ain't much good, so it seems.

Does anyone know of an independent in the North East/North Yorkshire who might know these vehicles? My favourate indy (Cental Isuzu) is 160 miles away, and I ain't going to a main dealer...

What do you need?

www.find-a-part.com is a good place to start.

Norfolk Rover Spares also sent parts out and had a few 200\'s in last week.
