How many of you are sick and tired of the govt attitude to car owners, the council attitude to car owners, where is the voice for car owners who can lobby the govt over matters such as congestion charging a con in my opinion when you already pay for road tax in the first place, stirling moss in a recent article in a daily paper, stated that there should be a motorist body for car owners to let the govt know that we are not the silent minority, a proper body for motorist should be set up any comment to its effectiveness.. Borasport has a post ongoing at the moment regarding an issue with a particular sales man.
This got myself and a work mate talking about salesmen, and came up with the salesman with the easiest job. A Saab salesman, they only sell 2 models (the 9-3 and 9-5) in a couple of body styles, to Saab owners on a trade in.
Can it get any easier than that??
That should start the ball rolling. Read more
Having had a customer on the line today who took the shouty shouty and very rude approach I can tell you that it does no one any good to start off like that. If the politeness gets you no where then you can try getting irate as a last resoert...
I had to laugh at him though, he started reciting our company's T&C's at me until I pointed out that what he had just said he was entitled to was exactly what I had told him we would be doing in any case.
He mumbled something about it been cow pat (less politely) then ended the call before I did it for him, and I was then left with the delightful task of making notes about him on his account. Been rude will come back to haunt... :-)

Hi
I replaced my HT leads after a similar problem - its like a different car now!

Yesterday whilst waiting for Skodette outside her college I witnessed some odd behaviour and it set me thinking (dangerous). Anyway the caccess road to college car park resembles one of the southern stages of the Paris - Dakar Rally. Rough isn\'t the word! Now, each time I drive down it I make quite a lot of effort to avoid the numerous deep potholes to avoid damaging the tyres, steering, suspension etc. Anyway during my short wait I saw at least 8 mums leave the creche with their offspring and speed off down the track seemingly oblivious of the potholes and the costly damage they might be doing to their cars. The only guy I saw come and go during that time did exactly the same as me and carefully weaved between the potholes. Now I agree that this is hardly scientific and not much of a statistical sample either, is this yet another example of the difference in driving behaviour between the sexes in general ? Read more

Fascinated to see on theregister a driver caught by the data recorded on his airbag log.
www.theregister.co.uk/content/55/31564.html Read more
The control unit for the airbag monitors the vehicle speed and and an accelerometer to monitor how quickly the car is accelerating/decelerating. Using these, it can determine when the car is suffering rapid deceleration as happens during a front end collision. When the airbag is activated, the car's speed prior to collision and the forces involved are recorded so that the perfomance of the airbag can be examined.

The worst of them all re-surfaced yesterday evening, I thought it
had gone for good. Girl in flat hears a ladder
fall and hurries outside to move her precious Toyota so that,if
the poor man who is left hanging from the building by
his fingernails should fall, the car wont be damaged. Having
moved the car, she leaves him dangling. DISGRACEFUL. Apparently,
Toyota believe their products to be more valuable than human life.
I wont be buying one.
Ah, but the chap up the ladder is dressed as a nasty burglar type..
BTW, it's an advert, not a commentary on social values and doesn't pretend to be. Getting wound up like that really can't do your blood pressure any good. Now throwing things at the screen when that stupid bloke with the dancing elephant appears, that's a reasonable reaction ;o)
I have a 25 000 mile 5 year-old Daewoo that has been trouble-free (engine-wise) for 2 years. It's now out of warranty
and I am unsure whether to get it serviced at the dealer's or elsewhere. According to the service book, nothing important needs doing for the 5-year service (apart from engine oil + filter). I had the timing belt replace last year. What would you do ?
Also, what function has the pollen filter exactly and is it important to have it replaced ? (I think it might need doing) Read more
Thanks for your advice, very much appreciated. After a bit of ringing around and chatting to neighbours in my village (am new round here) I found a local Vauxhall dealer who'll do the 5-year service (a minor one) for £100 (£135 at Daewoo's Gateshead). Thanks again for mentioning the Vauxhall connection, I had not realised.
Alf, I understand your point with main dealers and so on, but likewise I really think you cannot trust the likes of ATS, etc. I used to work in one of those quick fit centres in my youth...even if I can hardly tell a spark-plug from a plug.
I am talking 'servicing and MOT'ing' a car here, not just swapping oil filters. I also need them to stamp the service book in case I ever part-ex the car for whatever value.
Dealers and high street garages are not just a bunch of crooks, a lot of them work hard for their money ! (and yes, I have been ripped off a few times by some astoundingly incompetent ones, believe me)
How does the air con work exactly ? I am puzzled as when I put mine on (on a 5 yr-old Daewoo) there's a metallic/buzzing noise for a few seconds, then it seems to get cold but I am pretty sure that it gets less cold than before. Can a system slowly stop working ? (I thought it stopped altogether)
Could it possibly need recharging ? (how much does that cost ?) Thanks for your replies Read more
I've got a 5 year old Leganza and the air con wasn't getting as cold as I thought it should. I took it in to my local garage that I deal with they fixed it. Cost £65 plus VAT. If you have a garage that you use regulary they should get it done for you.
I know there have been discussions here in the recent past about the level of service or attention received at car showrooms, and i'm just going to recount what happened to me this evening
I am seriously thinking of changing my car and called at a Nissan dealers on the way home. I am (was ?) seriously considering buying a Nissan, and all I wanted to do was look at the stock on the forecourt
There was an Almera saloon on the forecourt, but they are not badged with engine size, so I asked the man who was walking down the cars closing all the hatches and bonnets if it was a 1500 or an 1800 - he said I'm only the security man, do you want me to find out ? and of course i said yes
He went away and a salesman came back, and we had a conversion something like this -
him - can I help you ?
me - yes, is that a 1.5 or 1.8 ?
him - it's a 1.8 - can i help you more ?
me - no, thats fine
him - anything else ?
me - no, I'd just like to look around the forecourt
him - have you got a car to sell ?
me - yes, but i'd just like a look around thank you
him - we what are you looking for ?
me - I'd just like to have a look round the forecourt - is there a problem with that ?
him - that's igonrant - i'm just being helpful and you being rude and ignorant. Come back when youre intersted in buying a car
and with that he walked off the forecourt.
I went in to the Showroom and spoke to the business manager, who's response was 'Thats his job - he sells cars'
I have to grow old - but I don't have to grow up Read more
Kev,
You're right, you should have just walked into the showroom and just helped yourself to the brochure.
The problem is that all the staff in a dealership are trained to get a salesman out to you at the slightest opportunity.
I have been in similar curcumstances, not wishing to speak to a salesman but been quite impressed with the professionalsm that one can display, in terms of trying to close a sale.
If they are couteous and helpful not only am I more likely to buy a car from them but I may even recommend that particular salesman to a friend or colleague.

Has anybody seen this recurring fault with the BMW airbag system. The fault manifests itself with the airbag warning light failing to go off after the car is started.
I'm now up to the 4th visit to the dealership to see if I can get it rectified. So far they have replaced the microswitch under the passenger seat twice and tried to clean the contacts for the airbags.
Has anybody else seen or had this problem??? I'd like to prove it isn't an isolated incident/fault

False airbag light activation affects most car marques......

I agree with the above sentiments about rip off britain, but we motorist are really have to get together to demonstrate that we are not being taken for a ride, just wondering if speed humps can damage car suspensions is it possible to pursue legal action...
This govt only has itself to blame, power corrupts, without going over the traffic are we being consulted to what our taxes are being spent on?
