Can anyone help me ?

My local garage have recently replaced the oxygen sensor on my Primera. Ever since then it has failed to start. They have checked everything but as yet (day 2) cannot diagnose the problem. Is there anything that they inadvertently could have done that has caused this problem ? Apparetly all they did was to reomve the connecting wires and replace, although the first one they tried was the wrong one. If they attempted to run the engine with the wrong one, could this cause a problem (reading the stuff on this site probably not but...)

(for the readers information they also changhed one of the ASB wheel sensors at the same time).

Of course until they are able to run the engine they won't know whether replacing the sensor has got the emissions back on line.

The cynic here asks:
were you charged for the coil, and their time to find it??

My best _guess_ is that they disconnected ATS, first, either by mistake, or as part of the dismantling and left it disconnected.

It would start warm OK.

But, on lack of sensible ATS voltage the ECU will assume mid range for "limp home".

Low ATS gives you rich mixture for start-up when cold, so assumed "warm" values will be like starting without the choke out..

AFAIK Lambda doesn't add anything to the management until it's warmed up.

On Friday I had to pootle down the M4 so I thought that I would set cruise control and see what my mpg was.

It took me about ½ an hour to get to the M4 so the car was up to working temp.

For the 1st 5-10 miles on the m\'way the mpg readout was about 39mpg or so and this slowly improved to when I came off 50 miles later reading 46mpg. From about 10-25 miles it stuck at 41-42 mpg

I was wondering why the figures slowly improved? Read more

Can anyone recommend a suitable carrier to transport 3 bikes on the back of my Berlingo. I don't want a roof rack.

Thanks Read more

Citroen do one but it's VERY expensive. Decathlon sports stores do a range, and being a French company may do one suitable for the Berlingo. Website for carriers is at

I have a 2001 Skoda Fabia without Air Con. My partner is very interested in having Air con fitted, is it possible to be fitted in retrospect?

If so, is it a dealer only job or are there specialist companies that could fit an after market unit? Read more

It's very clear to me that many people are extremely attached to their cars and I just wondered what made BackRoomers choose their cars.

What car do you drive and what made you choose it ? Was it just looks (are you sure ??) or was it something more important like, fuel economy, size, practicality, cost, performance, driving pleasure ?

Come on - what car do you drive and why did you buy it ?

I'd also like like to know why some people get so upset about others not liking their cars (Fiat thread). If someone wants to insult my car good luck to 'em - I'm certainly not going to get annoyed or try to 'convert' them. Sure I'd get annoyed if someone insulted my wife but why get all worked up about a car ?

Anyone care to enlighten me ? Read more

Kia Magentis; it had the good word from HJ and then others I found, it was cheap, it has six pots and a decent box, my wife finds it comfortable and yet it has quite a tolerable chassis.

Only, for some odd reason the manual six is now discontinued in UK.

Tomo as was!

Is there a kit i can buy and i can top up or repair myself or is there a specialist in air con that could help and what kind of cost should i be expecting so i know that John Air Con isnt trying to diddle me?

I'm sure the answer to this is buried somewhere in the back-room, but I couldn't find it just now.

What are the rules regarding the cost of a re-test after repairs elsewhere (e.g. at home)? I seem to remember a two-week allowance, but was this official, or just at the garage's discretion? Howcome some advertise a free re-test, but others don't? Our repairs are trivial, but it would be pointless to do them at home if by so doing we had to pay another £40!

It WAS due to start, just over 2 years ago, as I recall!

Just seen that my local friendly motoring chain-store has half-price cool boxes. Just the thing for the family holiday to the south of France. But then I wondered;
1) are they actually any good?
2) and if they are, do they need to draw power all the time (which might be a problem as my C5 switches everything off an hour after the engine is switched off) or do they just start over again next time you start the engine (in which case probably OK for drinks, but not meat products etc.)

Any advice appreciated....

Hi,

My mums 1992 106 is leaking petrol from behind the fuel cap and onto the wheel rim. What could be causing this.

1. Perished seal on fuel cap
2.Split pipe from filler to tank
3.Blocked vent pipe allowing system to pressurise
4.Overfilling then parking front up, back down so fuel effectively runs back up filler pipe

Hope this helps you.
