i have disconected my battery on my p reg citreon synergie, and now i can't start it due to the imobiliser having the red and green light on. i have tried leaving the ignition on for over an hour, disconecting the imobiliser box and a few variations of the two.HELP. I have only just had the car and know very little about it, so any suggestions might help.
Many thanks
Phil.

I have a 1994 2.5 CDX still going strong at 162k but there is an occaisional appearance of the "engine electronics" warning light (orange engine symbol).
According to the owners manual a brief illumination is not of any significance.
I was wondering if it was worth spending £30 on a VX dealer "tech 2" diagnostic check bearing in mind that the EMS only has a memory of approx 16 start ups & apparently I have to book it in to have this check done. All sounds a bit hit & miss.
I was hoping that there is a similar "trick" as with the vectra whereby you can short out 2 of the pins on the diagnostic connector and de-code the flashes of the warning light.
Any help greatfully received

Another thing is that I was also in Halfords reading the instructions for the Gunsons fault finder and I'm sure they had a different pair of pins (than those on the web page) to be shorted out.
Been given a rough quote for a replacement engine for a 90bhp Mk3 Golf TDI of £800 including fitting. Does this sound right to you guys? This is in the Southampton area.

Yep far too cheap...you could hardly get the parts for that.
The cheapest rebuilt engine I would trust to fit in your car would be almost £1500 plus vat, fitting, clutch and sundries.
Got to be £2K all in at least.
Noting wrong with a used unit as long as you accept the reduced condition/life over a proper exchange. What you don't want is a pressure washed used passed off as recon!

I recently bought an Astra 1.6i 16V GLS (96-N) which will need a couple of new tyres in the near future. I knew the tyres were 175/65/14 when I phoned a tyre-sellers earlier today for a price but the guy asked which speed rating I required, and I didn't know (wife was away with the car at the time so couldn't check).
He quoted me a price for both T & H ratings with approx. £15 difference per tyre for the higher rating.
I've now done a wee bit of research and found out that T is for up to 118mph, and H is for 130mph.
Parker's Guide says that my car's top speed is 118mph.
The car's handbook just says 175/65/14 T or H.
Can I fit T's ?, or do I have to fit H's by law.
( coincidentally, my other car (a Peugeot 406 2.1 TD) is also listed by Parker's as having a top speed of 118mph and I know it's got H rated tyres on it )

By the way, I couldn't get Dynamic Dave's link to work,
Hmmm, that's strange, neither can I tonight.
So, managed to put faces to two more of the Backroomers today - Volvoman and HF (who reckons she knows what all the buttons in her Astra do now, although I'm not convinced).
Quite a pleasure.
And before anybody else says anything, I do *NOT* look like Ian Botham.

MM - thanks for the clarification. I have not been on this site that long to know the history. I saw the photos link page a few weeks back and wondered why it was not publicised more widely. I assumed the msn.groups site was Randolph Lee's as his photo is the 2nd on the people album. The photos could actually do with some more captions - pity that, but at least what we have is better than nothing.

Why is this still showing last week's info? I was looking forward to reading HJs column and I didn't buy the Telegraph yesterday....I thought they would at least update it by Sunday evening.... Read more
Not an unreasonable response!
Does anyone know of any alternatives to NCP at EMA similar to the scheme at Stansted run by the local football club?
Many thanks

I use the BSFC park a lot and find it very good, 24 hour service, quick delivery to airport and pick up on arrival. Discount available thru Civil Service Motoring Association - only possible disadvantage is a minimum 4 days stay so not good for weekenders but great for the package holiday
At 22,000 miles, and only 18 months old, the steptronic gearbox has now failed. It appears to be an electronic problem rather than a total failure as it will still engage first and reverse gears. The main dealer says that the whole unit must be replaced at a cost of over £4,000. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've seen 2 of these early failures in my travels around main dealers. They are correct that currently they have to be replaced with new. They're made by JATCO and no rebuilders are yet up to speed, and all the solenoids are internal and not accessible with the box in situ. If you look at the number of wires going to the socket on the box you will get an understanding of the number of electronic items inside it. £4K seems a bit cheap, as I think it's about 15 hours to do the job, there certainly isn't any spare room in which to work, so the engine has to come out.
I have a 1999 1.4 Polo. When accelerating in 2nd 3rd gear uphill at about 2000 to 3000RPM I get a high pitched buzzy noise, thought it was exhaust or water pump but not that any ideas it does not affect power?

P.S. How many miles have you done ??
I\'ve been trying to investigate a severe vibration of the gear stick and, at some revs, the engine. I\'m very grateful to people who have answered my queries in the past but I\'ve only just got the time to do something about it now!!
I have replaced the centre rear engine mount which I could see was oval but this didn\'t solve the problem. I have just removed the lh engine mount to find that the top bush is round and normal but the underneath bush, that contacts the gearbox, is quite oval. I assume that it is meant to be round and the fact that it doesn\'t fully contact the sleeve that goes on the the protruding stud from the top of the gearbox means that movt is possible and this could be the source of the vibration.
Am I right? Is this lower part of the bush meant to be oval. Even if it\'s not the cause is it qorth replacing it anyway?? Car\'s done 128000m.
cheers for your help.

Hi,
I've got the same thing on Citroen ZX turbo-diesel P-reg. Did you ever manage to fix the problem?
Cheers, Tom.
