Don't think this model has a fuel temp. sensor so I would ignore the reading of 200c.First thing to look at and renew is the coolant temp. sensor.Do this and evaluate any differences. Also ensure that you do not mistake the temp.gauge sensor for the ECU engine temp. sensor.IIRC the gauge sensor points towards the radiator and the ECU sensor is close by towards the rear of cylinder head.

(Relax Mark, its not what you think)
Father-in-law needs a car to fit in his garage which is a bit on the narrow side, so to save time trawling through sites and phoning dealers is there a website out there which gives the dimensions of the current crop of superminis.

Question Leaky Nissan
Mutterer

94 Sunny 5 Door has water entering around the area of the offside front wheel arch. The rubber insulation mat is wet on the back but the floor pan is dry. Door seals OK, garage checked inside wing, all in order.
I suspect the sunroof drain tube, any other ideas out there??

I see Vauxhall have come top in the Family Car, MPV, and Roadster catagories by WhatCar "Car of the year Awards 2003".

Namely, the Vectra, Zafira, and VX220.

Any plans on a full write up HJ? Read more

That wouldn't have anything to do with the Mondeo getting beaten would it? :o)

OK I've bought the glass but how do I fit it? The driver's side door mirror suffered at the hands of an oncoming car and needs to be replaced. I have the replacement glass but do I just pull the old one off and click the new one in place? It's a 2 litre N reg and the mirrors have remote (but not electric) adjustment. Any hints gratefully received. Read more

Someone who I work with had a new Astra Coupe crashed into. the value of the car was about £22k (IIRC) and the damage came to about £7.5k. The insurance company said that it can't be written off and is to be repaired.

However, I was wondering about the future value of the car now that it has crash damage history. If you are not at fault (ie a no fault claim) are you entitled to claim some compensation against the offending party now that the value of your car will be lessened? I asked the Astra owner if they were going to find about compensation but got no answer. Read more

Hi,

Just a quick post, could someone please provide a decent description of what an air-mass meter does in a turbo diesel car?
The meter failed on my Golf, looong story, but I just need a techy description.

Thanks for your help,

Reading the advert for the Nissan Patrol got me wondering .... it's 3.0 litre direct injection turbo diesel engine produces 156bhp at around 3600rpm and 261 lbft at 2000rpm.
Just as a comparison, VAG's 1.9 litre TDi "PD150" engine produces 150bhp at 4000rpm and 236 lbft at 1950rpm.

Now I accept that both sets of figures don't totally compare but I think you may have guessed where I'm going with this.....

What difference would you notice if the VAG lump was stuck under the Nissan's bonnet? (Apart from loads of empty space in the engine bay)

If the answers' VIRTUALLY NONE, then why do the likes of Toyota, Nissan etc. still keep putting huge diesels with relatively low power/torque in their larger 4X4's when, in theory at least they could fit a much smaller unit with the same output?

"And how far would an 8.3L engine go with a 3.25gal tank?"

Far enough to scare you witless, I should think! Not sure that practicality was on the designer's list, somehow...

Can anybody tell me if using Super Unleaded petrol in my 1998 Renault Clio 1.6 RXE will have any noticeable difference? The reason that I ask is because with the price of petrol having risen over the past few weeks it works out almost as expencive to fill up with Super Unleaded Petrol and maybe gain extra performance/ mile per gallon; or am I better off filling up with Standard Unleaded Petrol and saving the few extra pennies for the next fill?

If I used Super Unleaded Petrol all the time would it have any effect on the catalyst converter?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

If the car is fitted with anti knock sensors as part of the ignition/fuel control it will make a difference. When driving on the continent in my Octavia 1.4 (yes 1.4), if you put 98/99 ron petrol in it is possible to drive up to the engine cut-off revs in 5th gear(still very quiet so didnt realise how fast I was going, thought I had a fault until I looked at rev counter!) if you use 95 ron petrol you cant!
