Just a quick post, could someone please provide a decent description of what an air-mass meter does in a turbo diesel car?
The meter failed on my Golf, looong story, but I just need a techy description.

Air mass meter. I assume it is a later golf 4 and above with electronic diesel pump, The unit measures the actual flow of air
In this case mass of air as opposed to volume. The electronics then determines how much fuel to inject into combustion chamber to achieve "clean" burn of the fuel.
