I am thinking of buying a Toyota Corolla Verso, but am slightly put off by the very fiddly arrangement of the luggage cover over the boot space. Has anyone got any ideas about an alternative DIY arrangement ?

Robbo,

Many thanks for your reply. I just wish I could think of a solution because I also think it is a super car in other respects.

I have a 1988 Honda Accord, which is still battling on. It has a very useful brake lamp sensor, that tells me when one of the brake lamps has failed (it would be even better if it told me which one, but one can't be fussy, and the wife is very good at standing behind the car when necessary to pronounce the faulty one!).

Anyway, I was wondering if any technical persons know how the fail sensor actually works?

I stopped doing that when it was me that paid for it in the first place!!!

Any recomendations on good commercial vehicles for personal use. Will be looking at something like a Toyota Hi-ace, Vite size etc with short wheel base. May do a partial conversion at a later date but for now just looking for something reliable and reasonably economical. Will probably have about 7000 to spend (providing wife doesn't find out !)

I have a Toyota Hi Ace Powervan 2.4 diesel.I don't know if it's the best but I am pleased with it.It is nice and comfortable, drives like a big car and once on the move is quite smooth.

I have added sound deadening felt under a plywood floor liner and put carpet on top of the plywood.I have also stuck felt on the side panels and then put a plywood liner on bothe sides.

Another confidence booster is the way the MOT man always seems to comment on the build quality of these vans.Mine is a 98 and done 72000 and still looks smart.I would certainly have another one.

Does anyone know of a car buyers check list. I found one on a site ages ago and thought it looked useful so I was going to print it off nearer the time I was going to buy a car. The trouble I can't remember when it was, can anyone help please. Read more

Thanks Ross, I have seen "How to buy and sell cars" but its not the one I was after. It was in the form of a check list on another site.

Looking at the Car by Car these have not been without fault. Has anyone got one of these as a "toy"? I tried one and thought it was great fun but what's it like to live with? Read more

this for a friend, Jack drives about 30,000 miles a year, and has a mondeo 1.8 tdi pulls a large trailer, he has done 113,000 miles so far no major problems, he has 2 years left to do the same job, question would he be better to keep the mondeo, or buy a newer mondeo, or is there a better car out there for the job, his next car he would intend to keep after retirement,

Keep it 'til he retires, then buy a new one or indeed keep the Mondeo. Just make sure he has the cambelt changed regularly, which he must be doing already if he's covered that distance without problems.

No, not that one.

clueless

There was spark that was the first thing i checked for when finding out why the car wasn't running and since it had spark i knew it wasn't getting gas. there was power at the injector plug but the injector wasn't getting any ground there for it wouldn't run. The computer is what turns the ground on for the injector to run the computer shut down because of a hot and a ground wire rubbing together i changed the computer and then taped up the wires and off she went. Is fully sythetic the oil of choice, or is a semi more than adequate for most cars?

For instance looking a Esso products:
www.esso.com/eaff/essoireland/products/mn_lubrican...l

Would it be worth using Mobil 1 in the oil change, or Esso Ultron Semi Syth?

Would mobil 1 provide additional protection/MPG benefits over the use of a Semi? Read more

Silkolene also do a 5W/40 road oil which is ester based, plus the "ordinary" oil I use for everyday application is their 10W/40 semi synthetic also has an ester component.

I have a Portable Mini Disc Player that I would like to play through my Car Audio unit: Ford CD6000. This unit has a multipin connector on the rear for a CD multichanger.
Does anyone know the pin outs of the connector? Is it possible to fool the CD unit into thinking there is a multi-changer present by for example linking pins and then feeding the audio input into other pins as though it was the autochanger?
I accept that I wont be able to control my mini disc player from the CD unit.

Answers or a service manual / circuit diagram for the CD unit (or where to get one from) would be much appreciated

Argos used to sell an

attachment which looks like a tape with a wire ...

Some clever richard came up with the idea of installing similar devices at the local drive-in cinema's once, which played the movie soundtrack throught he car stereo.
(Up until then, sound was via a large metal box on a cable, which hooked onto your side window, and gave abysmal sound quality.)
However, many was the night when, after the double feature, loads of cars were stuck with flat batteries!

I own a 1995 mercedes C220, and the car has an intermittent starting problem. The car will crank and turn over and over and over again, but won't start all the time. The Mercedes Garage has had the car for a week and are clueless. They say they have tried all the relay's etc. I put a throttle body on the car last week. $850.00. I have read about this problem before by someone on this forum, his name was ricksheehan. If your out there rick, did anyone finally fix your problem, and how can I fix mine? Anyone Help?
