Any advise please had my heart set on a Citroen C5 until my wife
spotted a Rover 75 and now i need some advise, my main concern is
MPG and comfort any comments Please.
Thank You Read more
was under the impression rover had big parts supply problems
and since splitting up with unipart they now have problems getting parts to the dealers when cars are off the road with problems
only heard this in passing
but same as new polo's, which also have mega problems with common parts that go wrong
this alone would be enough to put me off such a car, dont want my car off the road for weeks waiting for a widget
i am about to service my Daewoo Lanos (4 yr service, 18 ooo miles) they are to replace the timing belt. Should not they
replace the tensioners as well ? Has anyone out there had any problems with timing belts on Daewoos, Vauxhalls, etc. ?
Thanks for helping out, Catalyst Read more
As we are on the subject of timing belts, does anyone know the periodicity of timing belt changes on Mitsubishi Carisma 1600cc engines. Miles & or years?
Also what is the torque loading figure for Bosch S4 FR78X plugs, measured in lbs ft.
Thank you in advance.
Although I have a GLS, I quite fancy the idea of fitting a rear blind as in the higher end models. Does anyone know if this is possible, and where (if at all) I could find a cheap unit? I assume the blind is incorporated into the rear parcel shelf, in which case it could get a bit expensive. I've fitted rear courtesy lights as the apertures are already present in the grab handles, just need to run some wiring to the front courtesy lamp now for supplying them.

Hi all.
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice?
I am buying a 2001 fiat punto from a fiat dealer I am also paying to have an arbath body kit fitted.
The sales man told us the price of the kit and the car which we were happy with. After much niggling they cam up with a finance package that I liked the look of. Inspected the car on friday and am due to pick it up tomorrow night(the 31st).
One of my friends who is a bank manager offered me a slightly more attactive loan, with no set up costs and no penalty for settling early.
I phoned the dealership to tell them I had found a better offer and didn't want the finance, they obviously were not happy and started to tell me that they had done a deal on the body kit as I was taking out finance with them, However finance had not been mentioned when he told us the price on the body kit, although the saleman knew we were going to take some kind of finance out.
What I want to know is. Are they trying to pull a fast one to get me to take the finance out? Am I still within my rights to say I don't want the car (leverage, I still actually want it) even though I have inspected it and the body kit has been put on?
I have no copy of any finance agreement only a car order form which lists everything I ordered this form has no mention of the finance on it.
any advice on how to handle this situation best would be appreciated.

Er, I wasn't. I thought we were clarifying the cooling off
period.
I was clarifying ... because what you said was wrong!
But anyway I am also on tenterhooks to hear what happened :-)
A pal of mine gave his M reg Toyota to his son as a 21st birthday prezzie. If I recall correctly, insurance quotes were between £600 and £1K.
Anyhoo, three days later, the son's car was hit from behind by a lady driving a smaller car and the consequences were a write off for her car and major damage to rump of the Toyota.
Does anyone know of a faster loss of potential no-claims bonus?
I pointed out to the father that it was a no-claim bonus his son was building up, not a no-blame bonus. Ooooooops! Read more
>>Surely if he was hit from behind it does not affect his no claims bonus?
Probably stating the obvious, but....
It is not related to blame. Nor is it related solely to whether or not your Insurer gets their money back.
To retain your NCD after an accident, then..
Both parties must be insured by insurers taking part in the knock for knock agreement
and
you must recover all your uninsured losses, although recovering your excess is normally sufficient.
or
Your insurer must recover *all* their losses from the other party or his insurer in real money.
My company bought a van on 26 July. It is still at the main dealer being MOT'd and having some bits fitted. We intend to tax it from 1 August.
The van was not taxed when we bought it, the previous owner (not the dealer) had let it lapse at least a month ago.
I have just been warned that as there is a gap between acquiring the vehicle and taxing it, we are responsible either for tax or declaring SORN for the period from acquisition up to 1 August. Also there is a risk of becoming liable for the previous owner's failure to tax or SORN it.
Is this true?
Can/should we declare SORN retrospectively for 5 days?
Can/should we declare SORN retrospectively for the whole month, even though mostly not owned in that period?
If we have to tax it for the 5 days, ie the whole month of July, how do we get insurance cover for the retrospective period?

Did the previous keeper follow correct proc. with the Reg. Document ? If so it will be currently "in trade" so it should be ok. Have you registered it ???? When do you "acquire" it for registration purposes ? So many questions on this I suggest you phone the LVLO and let them sort it but I shouldn't worry.
Hello All,
Just a quick one - does anyone have any suggestions for where to go to get my driver's seat repaired? I have a hole about the size of a small apple in the cloth on the right-hand verticle bolster (from getting in and out over the past 140000 miles!) which I would like to get sorted.
Some people have recommended leathering the bolsters, which I don't want to do (expense, and I don't like the look) and another place has said there isn't enough meterial to take from anywhere else on the car (as apparently the original cloth is hard to get hold of). It's a 1991 H-Reg Audi Coupe.
Any suggestions (or offers of very cheap replacement original seats) much appreciated!
Cheers,

Hi All,
Further to yesterday's posts, I have a little more information about this repair job now. Having spoken to the people in Blackpool, I have had no joy on matching the cloth, which I kind of expected. But I have been given another couple of options...
1. Take material from rear arm rest, and cover damaged bolster: £60
2. Leather all front seat bolsters: £120
3. Leather whole car (!): £650
Hmm, choices choices. Anyone have any experience with taking meterial from rear arm rests? Im told it will be replaced with a neutral grey cloth - will this look really shoddy, and defeat the point?
Or maybe I should just leave it gaffa taped up and ignore it!?!

hello All,
I was wondering if anyone could throw any light on the following problem. I have a low speed/low RPM "juddering" problem in my car. So far it's only appeared just after starting, when I'm moving off, and only if I don't apply much throttle. It almost exclusively occurs in first gear.
When I took the car to the Dealer, they found a camshaft sensor which neded replacing. since they caried out the work, the problem hasn't gone away. I took it back a second time, but they couldn't find anything wrong with it.
Does anyone have any ideas? (Or failing that does anyone know of any good BMW specialists, who know the E46 inside out)
Also, I have a question on Refurbished alloys. A Wheel/Tyre specialist nearby (Monty's wheels & tyres in Iver, Bucks) offers this service, does anyone have any reports (good/bad or indifferent) about the service. will it make the wheels last any longer (i.e. less likely to crack), or shorten the lifespan, or is it entirely cosmetic?

Thanks David, I think I'll try both. But I was under the impression that most suppliers added detergents to their fuel already?
> My 5 series does this. I've always blamed the clutch (or my poor control of it).
I think this has only happened with my foot off the clutch (most severe when my foot is off the accelerator too)
Dear all
Has anyone heard anything about alleged turbo failures in recently produced Golf PD130s and PD150s? Seems to occur in very low mileage cars. Has there been a recall? Any other information?

The word "alleged" is not in my vocabulary as far as Golf Turbos are concerned, because I am now on number three in less than 25k miles, all replaced under warranty!
Its A PD 150 GTI , goes very well ,excellent performance and economy but when its outside warranty may well bankrupt me .
Central News (Oxfordshire local TV news) reported tonight that customers are having to wait up to two weeks before BMW can check the cars over. BMW reckon that the recall check of the gearbox linkage cables won't take more than 35 mins to complete per car.
In the mean time it means that people are driving around in a car with a potential fault [1] waiting to happen.
[1] the car can get stuck in second gear if the linkage fails. Not the sort of thing you want to happen in the middle of overtaking another vehicle only to find that you can't select third.
