Dear all
Has anyone heard anything about alleged turbo failures in recently produced Golf PD130s and PD150s? Seems to occur in very low mileage cars. Has there been a recall? Any other information?

Well here in VW dealer land, we have had no problems with these engines,no recalls etc.If it has failed it should be covered under warranty and may well be a 1 off failure.

Many thanks. Delighted to hear that's the case. Mine's been flawless so far, in fact -- and altogether a superb car.

Is this the same "VW dealerland" that still refutes any problems with front suspension on pd100's despite the belly pan on my old one being destoyed by cats eyes?

I don't know if anybody has seen the lastest issue of What Car?
The Golf's reliability is shocking compared with its contempories.
The "If only everything in life is as reliable as a Volkswagen" Golf suffered with 25 breakdowns per 100, however, the Focus and the much underrated-but-has-a-very-good-diesel-engine Xsara both suffer only 14 breakdowns per 100.
My advice, sell your Golf, buy a 6 month old Xsara and the difference will keep you in fuel for a couple of years and still have enough left over for days out to fill the time you would have spent driving to your VW garage.
And the understated Xsara will attract less attention from thieves. Plus you will save on insurance compared with the TDI 130!
Ben (Mr Citroen, I'll have a Diesel with all the trimmings please)

The wifes PD130 on a 53-plate has just suffered a failed turbo at 26,000 miles. I'm going to try and ask the dealer to keep the part to see exactly what the problem was, but I can't believe that she over-stressed it, and it had services at 10k and 20k miles...
At least VW have done the decent thing and have agreed 100% parts and labour despite being 1 month outside the warranty, otherwise it would have been an £1100 bill.

The word "alleged" is not in my vocabulary as far as Golf Turbos are concerned, because I am now on number three in less than 25k miles, all replaced under warranty!
Its A PD 150 GTI , goes very well ,excellent performance and economy but when its outside warranty may well bankrupt me .
