Could anyone please suggest a source for car wiring diagrams, either by post or on-line. Seeking diagram for a new Suzuki Wagon R ( yes, I have asked the dealer ) Any input much appreciated. Read more

I was not asking for a photocopy, I was asking to purchase an original, as in money, as in dealer making a profit whilst providing a service to the customer.

Tyre inflators for home use. Are they useless or worth the money. A quick look at Halfords online reveals a few that use the cigarette lighter socket but don't mention any mains capability, which is what I would want also.

Anyone got any thoughts on them either way.

I live remotely so popping to the local garage is a chore I could do without and even then the equipment is not that modern. Read more

Thanks for all the advice - as ever a whole host of working solutions. The bike pump sounds the best, I am sans dodgy heart or back or knees so far (doubtless will get them soon after getting the pump) and I have a bike and motorbike too. Oh, and the ITC gauge too....

One last question, Dave, on the rare occasion you get to inflate some lovely female, have you managed to find the connection to test her PSi yet?

Hi,

My father has an Opel Zafira 1.8 Elegance, approximately 18months old and low mileage.

When the engine is running and the steering wheel is turned, there is a bubbling sound coming from the steering column. Sounds like there could be air in the system? The car drives fine and the power steering works ok.

Any ideas as to what the noise could be? Could there be air in the system and if so could this be caused by the power steering fluid level being too low? The Zafira book doesn't tell you how to check the level of the power steering fluid and the reservoir is opaque!!!

Thanks. Read more

I'd like to thank those who have supplied sensible answers to this. The sound was indeed more of a 'shooshing' sound and the garage diagnosed a leak in the steering system and are going to replace the whole rack.

I don't know where this business come from regarding a 'bogus poster'. I am relatively new to this forum, genuine and somewhat surprised that I have been labelled an 'imposter'.

The ISP address (---.ilford.mdip.bt.net) is something that is put in by the system - I don't have a clue where it comes from. On my other posts, the system has put in something different.

A friend of mine has a new Astra which has had driveability problems from new. Symptons are engine shunt and kangaroo hops when changing gears at speeds below 25 mph. Main dealer is giving my friend the run-around. Anybody had a similar problem or know of a specific problem for a particular production batch? Read more

Air pump, hummm... they may be hearing the sound of the air conditioning compressor that runs for aout 30 > 40 sec on start up in the morining or after standing for a long time.

My Audi Coupe is now back on its wheels after some confusion over brake hoses (20V owners note - the German & Swedish parts catalogue lists the wrong front brake hose). The effect of fitting the new wishbone bushes is amazing - I hadn't realised just how bad the old ones had got. The bushes took about four hours to fit including tea breaks - if it wasn't for the Backroom I'd probably still be struggling with them now. Thanks Ian and Martin for some first class advice. You should have tried the lady who charged the same for allowing herself to be beaten by what I believe is called a "regular". Went on motoring holiday (1)and asked her chum to take over for a couple of weeks. Chum a bit doubtful until she discovered she would be paid £250 "OK" she said"I've only got one question - how long will he beat me for?" Answer - "Until you give back the money"!

PS "for beating me firmly with a .... belt" - that should solve the belt versus chain argument once and for all!

Re my post about using WD40 to remove sticky label residue - I noticed some suggestions about using acetone and nail varnish remover.
Be careful - some years ago at Heathrow, two guys were cleaning the wings of a Concorde when one of them noticed that the cleaning fluid smelt like vodka and tonic.
They drank about six glasses each and went home.
Next day, one of them got up for a P and fell on his arse - noticed that he had 8 small wheels on each foot and that his ears were flat against his head.
He called his mate from Heathrow and asked what was going on.
Mate replied 'I dont know, but whatever you do, don't fart, I am talking to you from Kennedy New York!'
Use WD40!

I have been thinking for a while of upgrading from my old 1.9 Pug diesel to the late shape Astra or Vectra diesel. 3 of my colleagues have them, and worship them except that all required new mass airflow sensors at about 36k.
No problems, as they had it done under extended warranties, but I buy my motors at 70k plus. Quite a pricey item, as the wires come as part of a large block.
It has been suggested that they could have been cleaned with carburettor cleaner, but others have said that the wires are too fragile for this. Personally, as you are going to throw the thing in the bin anyway, I would have had a go!
Any information, alternative suppliers, success stories with this component? Read more

Thank you Dave

I might just get on of these new-fangled diesels yet!

Wife parked in heath club parking area the other day - staff asked her to move her 6 week old car as a MALE driver was having problems getting out and had damaged his car against a post.
She moved the car and he drove off - in her opinion he could have got a truck out and the staff said that he was not a good driver.
When I washed the car later, I find blue paint and the rear bumper is torn from the car body - nothing too expensive but I do not wish my wife to be arrested for giving this plonker the Glasgow Kiss when they next meet at the gym.
Any thoughts on how to deal with this?
Is it reportable to the Police if we can match the paint? Is it an offence to leave the scene of damage to a car when no physical damage has occurred?
Should I check whether she has bigger muscles than him?
Comments welcome.

Check if the club has cctv and if it hasn't next time the bloke is in the club, chuck a brick through his windscreen. It won't solve you rbumper problem but will make you feel better.

Question Knocking on 306
Matt Jeans

I have a 1996 peugeot 306 1.9 diesel which is great but I can feel a faint knocking/clunking through the pedals when not accelerating. Also when I brake the car vibrates quite noticeable. These problems have both got worse and I'm fairly sure they are connected as I replaced discs and pads with no improvement. Any ideas? Read more
