Anyone suggest a reasonable asking price for this car of mine which I want to off load in the near future?
Owned by me from new, its a 1998 'R' reg MR2, 16v GTi (not the T bar) in red. Full 12 months mot, full main dealer service history, cam belt changed at 63,000, VGC throughout and 67,000 genuine miles (backed by service history) on the clock.
Don't know if location will make a difference but Im located in NW England. Read more
I'm sure some of you have seen the latest travesty which the Green Party ave been putting out - specifically the part which tries to blame 24,000 deaths on pollution from cars.
Since this appears to be completely untrue (based on data from the DoT and several independant reports), I have filed a compalaint with the Broadcasting Standards Commission, claiming that the broadcast is grossly misleading. I'll let you know what, if anything, happens, although I'm not holding my breath.

Another thing where I go bows up at the Greens.
I don't mind them expressing their views, and welcome the chance for a debate, as there is always two sides, however something which has raged for weeks in our local rag is a typical example.
All the Greens can produce in this case is a totally negative argument. Yet ask them as they do not like options A,B or C, what do you think *is* the solution they go very quiet on that.
The end result is that they believe they have won the discussion because they invariably have the last word. The truth is that the more objective parties to the discussion give up due to tedium with banging head on wall syndrome.

I run an imported Toyota Masterace. This is one of the Townace/Liteace type vehicles and, for it's low initial cost, and because of it's specification and interest to the owner/mechanic, I am very pleased with it. I am trying to improve the "ride" from the front suspension which is torsion bar type. Can anyone kindlyadvise if they have investigated or worked on this type of suspension, ie, possibly on the Toyota Spacecruiser or the Litace, and found any fundamental flaws or, perhaps, linkage points which might have had premature wear, which could contribute to a rather bumpy operation. I have fitted new shock absorbers. Any help or comment much appreciated. Read more
Thanks again David for thoughtful comments
I was rear ended recently and have spent a week in a Peugeot 307 hiremobile.
The pug does not notice speed humps, cushions or raised pedestrian crossings.
What an eye-opener.
I've been driving with a stiff suspension setup for several years and have to be inch-perfect to straddle cushions, or the thump is spine-jarring. Some new cushions are so high, I can't get over them below 30mph without grounding. Over 30mph lets me clear them!
My local authority has been laying these confounded obstacles for a few years, during which time I've broken 3 anti roll bar brackets and a coil spring, something that's never happened before in 38 years of motoring.
I thought everyone was exposed to this abuse.......not so.
If the pug is immune, I assume all normal suspension setups are immune.
So, what bl**dy purpose do they serve? Read more
Like not looking at a third of the road works for you?
Well, I suppose its one solution - (I think it's called bigotry?)
Ive just been looking through some older threads and came across some unanswered questions about lpg the main one being the safety side of things
im an LPGA approved convertor so obviously its in my interest to say how safe lpg is so read for yourself at LPGA.co.uk there is a whole section on safety
Channel tunnel.. yes its true at the moment the channel tunnel do not allow gas cars to travel with them but one of my customers is currently in a court battle with them over it
channel tunnels view is that if there is a fire on the train they simply seal that carriage and deal with the fire at the other end so they dont want anything extra on the train that is flammable fair enough
but as hj said autogas tanks are much much safer than calor gas type bottles
so doesnt it seem starnge that you are allowed to carry 80l or a 40 kilo bottle of lpg with your caravan the channel tunnel dont seem to think this a risk at all?????!!!!
anyway any gas questions im quite happy to give a hopefully unbiased opinion

I wonder if any Citroen enthusiasts out there can help me. I own a base spec ZX, and its instrumentation consists of only speedo, giant clock where a rev counter is on higher spec models and a fuel gauge, no temperature gauge either!
I wonder if it would be possible to get another instrument cluster from a scrappy off a higher spec model and retrofit it into my car, bearing in mind I am a complete novice at this sort of thing. Also, would all the necessary connections be there in my car to connect to this different set of instruments?
I am not worried about mileage not matching or signs of the panel being removed as I intend to keep the car until it is beyond economical repair. Thanks for any replies, positive or otherwise. Read more
Physically swapping the panels over is probably fairly easy, however if you want the uprated instrument fit to function there will also as you say be issues with sensors and wiring. May be a standard loom with the extra plugs etc fitted and unused, sensors may just be screw in components available from the scrappy with the panel. Have a good poke around under the bonnet and behind the panel with a wiring diagram.
Could there also be differences in the speedo set up which would be for different gearing, wheelsizes etc on a warmed up version?.
A few months ago the Daily Telegraph had a news iten in which it was said that the treat of fines for motorists who wanted to display the Union Flag or regional flags would be removed and that amended regulations would be introduced.
My local garage tells me that it is still an offence to have other than the EU flag on a number plate and any other would cause the car to fail its MOT.
Is this yet another example of a Goverment promising to change the law, but failing to do so? Or is my garage wrong.
If national emblems are now legal, where can I get plates with the St George's Cross and ENG as suggested in the DT article? Read more
Absolutely. Old Tone has to sort out the world first
If this has been discussed before I'm sorry, did a search and came up with nothing.
Can someone pleeeeeease explain the following mentality.
One has a car advertised in the local rag.
Get a call, is it still for sale etc, go through the conversational selling bit.
Right mate I'll be around shortly, just around the corner, 10 minutes max.
And you wait.........and wait.........and they never arrive.
One possibility of course is a drive by which decides them not to bother, but it also happens when its locked away in the garrage.
So can someone tell me what the crack is here. Read more
They tell the wife/significant other I'm going to buy another car and she says like hell you are!!!
My father's 95 M Toyota Carina E 1.6xi recently was MOT'd and passed, but the tester 'advised' us that the rear brake pipes were slightly corroded. Is this a serious problem, and is it an expensive job? Will corroded pipes have any effect on braking performance? Is it advisable that the pipes are replaced in the very near future?
Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Read more
Testers favourite this. Nothing wrong with the car, but surface rust is always worth a mention. Just scrape off the rust, clean up with a bit of fine emery cloth and check that there is no pitting. Smear grease over affected area.
Check www.autotrader.co.uk and used the geographical locator to see what others are asking in your area, then undercut their prices slightly.
