I know superbikes are so much more exciting than processional F1 with three overtakes per race instead of three per lap but it is better watched with the commentary off IMHO. What is this 'wire' that things are going to? A fit young man riding a 150bhp+ bike is decribed as 'looking strong'! He is then described as 'putting down the hammer' - I would have thought picking it up would have been more useful but who knows? Then there is the stuff we don't want or need to know - "Steve, the 27 years of age plumber from Sheffield whose wife had a baby girl last week" etc. Can he ride, great, never mind about his home life! I couldn't do any better myself, if I felt the need to talk for the duration of a 30 minute race, that's for sure. Noting the bike numbers and switching the sound makes for good viewing Read more
Hi
My car is three years old and recently when I put the aircon on (cold) there is a sour smell almost like vinegar. I changed the cabin filter but no change. Does this mean that the system need to be cleaned out
thanks

I wonder why Michael Meacher keeps telling us our cars are melting the ice caps and Mr Brown penalises us accordingly.
Just found this.
www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/mars_sn...l
It reveals that ice caps on Mars are melting at an alarming rate, unlike our own which remain tens of degrees below freezing in spite of the buffoons who tell us that an ice shelf at the Antarctic Peninsular, the Larsen 'B', melted away causing fears of catastrophic flooding.
Most folks here are knowledgeable enough to know that if floating ice melts there is no change at all in water levels.
So if Meacher is correct, then there *must* be cars on Mars. The logic is inescapable as Mr Lucas might say. Read more
I think it is relevant to motoring because, on the basis of the biggest scam ever perpetrated on mankind, we are being taxed and harried off the road
what is that new programme about cars, is it on BBC2, with Steve Berry gurning away in his stupid voice
As a piece of motor industry sponsored non-ctitical shameless puffery it makes Judith Chalmers on Wish You Were Here look like Roger Cook
I wonder if Bryan Ferry's son should be encouraged to send Steve Berry an e-mail? Read more
I presume Spencer was referring to the recent news (if it can be called that) that Bryan Ferry's son sent a very abusive e-mail to an anti-hunt campaigner. He is apparently at Eton and the numerous mis-spellings, rather than the abusive language, prompted the Daily Telegraph letters brigade to write in with their usual pompous offerings.
I hope I'm using this forum correctly.
I need to replace one of the brake light bulbs in my 98 VW Beetle, but I cannot figure out how to remove the tail light unit.
Can anyone offer me some advice or tips?
TIA

Just to finish this off, my wife took the car to main dealer man yesterday, and they had two people try ('cause the fisrt man couldn't do it) but succeeded in the end and charged 50 pence, and offered complimentary mineral water and biscuits.
Thanks to everyone who chipped in.

This is slightly off topic, but can anyone advise as to which CD re-writer is best for playback quality? I have had countless CD gifts from friends with cheap CDRWs and the CD's never play in any other macine than the original recording one, which defies the whole point. I want to playback in the car CD.
I have heard that 20X10X40 can be ok
what about 40X12X40?
thanks Read more
thanks Dan, made it all very simple.
Some good advice, thanks all!

p.s basically it seems to get good playback you:
-get a goodish CD record machine
-buy CDR's only (quality ones)
-record um slow
-use more modern CD players which can handle the burnt CDs on playback
straight forward enough!
Sit or set your Video recorders for 2000hrs (Zulu) Monday 25th March, 2002 Channel 4.
It has an engine, brakes, tyres and you will never get done for speeding in it.
Keep your Rolls, Mercs, Mini etc I wish I had one.
And if they did restore it in 14 days then I'll eat HJ's hat.

The best line was the popular trivia quiz question:- "What was the name of the first Zulu native killed in the battle of Rorke's Drift?"
Answer, William.
As every schoolboy knows, Michael Caine screamed out, "Right Men, Fire at Will."
Does anyone know of a locking device that will prevent spare wheels on Ford Fiestas and KAs being stolen?
I have had 2 go in the last couple of weeks, one from a KA, which was not noticed until literally 5 minutes before the swap for a Fiesta, which also had its wheel removed 2 weeks after purchase :-(
This was in broad daylight, outside the office, on a fairly busy road in an area considered to be good.

Just watched Driven. Good programme, but was Mike Brewer suggesting we should overtake just before a motorway exit, then cut in. Surely he should be encouraging us to stay put behind the lorry and wait for the exit. Even though this would mean us arriving at our destination 0.5 seconds late. But at least we would arrive!
