Anybody hear the radio news the other night. One of the Yorkshire Forces is investigating the wanton destruction of Speed cams. Apparantly this henious crime is manifested by the ramming and or torching of at least six in the Darlington area. Anybody else hear this ? (or was it a dream ?) Read more

Hi all
Offered a Toyota Carina II 1989 with 150k on the clock, however it has been well maintained and serviced and goes well. The problem is the exhaust is leaking and I am not sure, it could be the cat converter. If it is I need to check thr replacement cost. Also the rear wiper motor is a bit duff. Wants £300.00 for the car is it a bargain or reasonable value?

now now, little mister ah bisto.
Just finished brushing 300 yards of road after my hedges were cut by a friendly farmer. Hot work.
I recall this was mentioned recently, but I believe that farmers should not be allowed to simply leave the sharp hawthorn cuttings lying in the road. Farmer tells me it is a price you pay for living in the countryside!!!!!!!!
My dear wife drove over them to go shopping so I hope the tyres are still OK.
The last two years have seen two punctures which I was told were unrepairable as they were too near the sidewall. Cost a lot of shekels.
Is any other trade allowed to leave sharp objects on the highway without penalty? Read more
I would laugh, but its not a joke.
It is a shame that the only criminals are those who break a speed limit.
Getting back on track, Haybalers can be awful too, following one its like chistmas, how much bungs up the radiator I dont know.

Hi all
Just a quick note of thanks to all who answered my query a week ago re getting a diesel through an MOT test ( emissions )
I changed the air-filter , added RedX diesel additive , went for a 10 mile motorway spin ( using 4th gear instead of 5th) prior to the MOT and passed the emission test this time with flying colours.
Excellent.
A new MOT certificate is better than sex!!!! ( I`ve been married TOO long !! )
Thanks again

Hi Chas - Congratulations on the MOT. I find the Redex treatment does wonders for the emission test. And I have four diesels to get through each year. I often wonder what sort of 'ride' the poor blokes get taken on who leave their cars with the garage to sort out before getting a new certificate.

Just look at this:

And they still talk about motoring in the 21st Century.
What an oxymoron.

If Blackbushe auctions on a Friday is the dearest, well ok, we now know where and when to go to sell. Where is the cheapest - within a reasonable drive of Surrey/M25 and when? Read more
Any idea how a private punter can look at the auction lists online? Seems to be resticted to the trade.
Only other alternative is to spend about 10 minutes (at £1/min) with their fax back service
Reading HJ's column in today's Telegraph, I noticed that the first three questions were all about reliability and the cost of repairs. All three cars were British built (I think).
As breaking down is the most frustrating thing to happen to a driver, surely the only answer is to throw patriotism out of the window and buy German or Japanese? Several years ago I flew the flag, to my cost, with Austin and British Leyland and it cost me an arm and a leg, apart from time lost and frustration.
I recently bought myself an MB 320CDI and am proposing to buy a Honda Civic for seconds. All the various satisfaction surveys show reliable cars to be highly rated. So I think I am doing the right thing.
What do you think?
