hello everyone, i am really chuffed that i have a 1955 morris minor, i picked it up from north yorkshire last night, but the problems have started, not with the car, but with the bl**dy thieves, i was driving down to the coast, when the police pulled me over for not indicating, when i bought the car it had indicators, but when the police pulled me over the pop out indicator arms are missing. I'm not surprised about the Escort.

I had a Capri, on a old morning you had one shot. If the engine was in good knick, then the one revolution the starter motor managed might start it.

This was a miilion year old 1.3. Interestingly some years later I had the last ditch offering 2.8i. It was exactly the same.

I have an MX6, which occassionally (too many double letters there) judders at around 2k revs. I asked the my local independent garage what could be causing it, they scratched their heads and said it could be any number of things. I thought it could be the plugs, as I use NGK and not the mazda ones. I was going to try them at the next service. Yesterday I gave a friend of mine a lift in it, and he immediately asked is it meant to do that?

I said no. He replied that his mondeo used to do that, and it was something to do with the valves (probably a bit sticky) and it was an expensive head off job. (even more so, because this car has 24 of them).

Could this be the case? I will also check with my local garage to see what they think. The other question is, as it has been happening on and off for over a year, will it damage the car, if i dont get it done, not straight away at least? Anything over £250 will have to wait a month or two anyway.

Many Thanks

I think John Slaughter previously pointed out that Ford dealer bulk oil is actually Texaco Havoline 5w-30 semi syntheticwhich is one of the best semi synthatics around. But the other little problem with Mondeos is they tend to need a new set of leads every 3 years or so. Cheap at £30 or so because they're short leads.

Why oh why do some people drive on regardless when the temperature guage is in the red and steam coming from under the bonnet?
We have had a Rover 416 brought in to us from the nearby M5 suffering from coolant loss/overheating.
The engine had got so hot the plastic cambelt covers and other associated plasticwork on the engine had melted!
The reply 'Oh, I just wanted to get off the motorway, I was only half a mile form the junction' is all to common.

Needless to say, somebody has had an invoice from ourselves for £2135.14 for the repairs.

When will people learn?
Do we have a large indicator type light (as found in competition cars) to indicate low oil pressure and/or overheating?

Methinks it would make no difference.

i like this website, other websites just dont really tell you what you want to know, and if you have a question, you have to send an email, and then wait a few days for them to get back to you, but with this website you can put a question on the forum, and get alot of answers (some of them you dont want, but as long as nobody starts useing bad language then it wont matter) Read more

The horn on my Ford KA now 1 year and 1 week old has just stopped working. You guessed it 1 week outside the warranty period. I've checked the fuse and had a poke around underneath. I am frightend to fiddle with the steering wheel boss incase I set off the air bag has anyone got any bright ideas, which do not involve £40 per hour labour? Read more

The fault could be in several places, depending on whether the horn is powered via a relay.

Put a direct 12 volts across the horn contacts. If it doesn't work you have probably found the problem (duff horn). If it does, check the fuse(s). There could be one for the horn button and if this is blown you may find that something else doesnt work either. There could be another feeding the relay. If the fuses are all OK and the horn is OK then it's probably the relay.

Alternatively, you could just wind the window down and shout.

2 Points:-

1. I am pretty convinced that a garage I use gives short measure on occasion. I seem to get more fuel in the tank than normal and brim to brim consumption is also less than normal. I do a pretty regular journey pattern each week and my manual calculation of MPG agrees with the computer figure in car. However on the occasions when I put in an 'extra' 4-5 litres the manual consumption is 3-4 MPG less than the computer.

I did ring the council weights and measures dept about it, and don't use the garage any more. Does anyone know how often pumps go out of calibration or how easy they are to 'adjust'?

2. A garage near me(not the same one) cashed in during the fuel crisis and charged 10p a litre more than normal. I and some pals will not use it as we felt we were being ripped off. However I did read that some independant garages were being charge much more by the wholesale supplier. Is this so - and 10p on the price berore fuel tax? Read more

does anybody remember the garage on the news, it was at the time of the fuel protests, he was selling fuel at £5 per litre, that business also went down the drain.

Thanks in advance Read more

Checked brake fluid level. Spot on.

The mystery is why does it go off when clutch pedal is depressed?

Because the uk does not comply with the eu directive on emission control they really do not mean alot in the uk .A car with euro4 or d4 even a porsche will have from 20months free road tax and upto 5 years free road tax for a corsa for eg.Even the clean diesels attract extremely high tax but then the fuel is 50% cheaper. The base rate in Germany when you do have to pay is 12dm for every 100cc upto 48dm for a old diesel trucks.Vehicles such as discos are taxed as commercial at 373dm per year .Once again the British motorist is ripped off
