Came out of the flat this morning - first thing I saw was a Mondeo (Y reg) on bricks - all 4 wheels gone - can I suggest Mondeo owners invest in some locking wheel nuts if not fitted as standard! Read more
I noticed that Alvin took the driving test in 1957, some 22 years after the tests introduction and I wondered what the main differences between the 1957 test and the current one are? I remember hand signals being phased out in '75, the year I took mine and I know that the current test has a written paper, but what else? Anyone know? Read more
My youthful emagination has been crushed by oppressive thought police. I am told what to eat, drink, wear, think, say and know. I also have the misfortune of being a white male, so therefore racist and sexist.
Imagination and free-thought are dead, we live under a dictatorship.
And for car stealing, it was only a half serious comment, police might actually have been bothered about catching car thiefs, unlike today where they have better things to do than stop murders and burgulars, obveously stopping motorists obeying a sensible speed is more important.
End of rant, in bad mood, cheered up slightly mow,

Saw a 70's VW Beetle in a car park yesterday.
Something about it made my blood run cold.
Can it really be legal in Britain in 2001 for a car to have drum brakes on the *front*? Read more

Yes, the parking brake is held off by the air pressure - see my post above.

I have a slight problem. A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a stone chip to my windscreen whilst driving on the M5. Putting it aside as a slight annoyance, I just lived with it.
However, I returned to my car in Bristol after having been at home in Somerset for the weekend, only to find a large 5-6 inch crack running from the bottom of the driver-side area up for 3-4 inches then along 2-3 inches.
I've no idea what happened, whether someone knocked it or maybe it was caused by the tropical rain Bristol suffers from...
I don't hold much hope for a repair (although would it be possible?) so I'd like to get a quote on what I should expect for a replacement. Would a breaker's yard or similar be a good source? Read more
Oh good. I never knew he was in that kind of business. If you could ring him, that'd be tops.
Auto Windscreen quoted me £117.50. Yikes.
I was interested by Chris Watson?s comment in the Budget Automatic thread:
?i have never liked mondeo's as the ride in the back feels rather rough, and you can feel vibrations through your back, plus not alot of legroom, but i am 6'6".?
I think it?s an often overlooked point that if you are choosing a car for the family and they don?t find it comfortable to long distances in the back, your choice is a bit flawed as a family car!
I always thought the saving grace of the Montego saloon was that it was superb to travel in the back - plenty of room, comfortable ride, nice high position in well shaped seats. So what are the nominations for the best back seats?
I?ll suggest the Toyota Avensis Read more
A well known fact - in a Rover you sit 'in' the seats, in other cars you sit 'on' the seats! Especially German cars.
Looking for some help and advice please.
Have been looking into the above with a view to purchase. I understand the post 95 cars should only be considered and am thinking the 2L 16v (150bhp) that combines power with reasonable fuel ecconomy is my best bet.
What spec does the sports option add?
I am aware of the Professor Brainstorm designed electrics, and the usual service history points to look out for, but anyone out there with any particular knowledge of this series and any handy hints............Thanks and all that Read more
Bizarre. I too met a "rep" last week whose Alfa was "awaiting parts"! Arrived by train and taxi instead
Did 600 miles this weekend with the rear plate on my parcel shelf under a road Atlas.
No problems at all.
Went past several Rozzers including one speed trap and got no interest.
It's back on now but I would suggest for the 'one off' long distance high risk drive this is the ideal Camera risk avoidance strategy.
(And no, I didn't deliberately speed - jsut using plate removal as belt and braces...) Read more

Wow, Two years in prison for a dealer mistake! Usually they just wreck your car not your life.

according to the telegraph, the government is considering driving bans by post (automated) where the drivers dont even have to go to court...
get flashed a few times in one day, and hey ho guess you'll get a ban in the post...

Where did it go?
Excellent post from Mr Wollard earlier today examining the claims of another, just about to add a post and its disappeared from the board.
It was a reasonably courteous post from Mr Wollard as well!
technical error or fear of litigation?

Yes let us get on with it in the way this site does best.
Martyn has explained his reasons, and I am quite happy about that, even though I still missed the thread.
Bit worried if I have to join the gang of four, does that mean I have to vote Democrat?
A friend of mine is thinking of buying the following from a local Nissan dealer:
99T 200SX Touring auto - £12995
BUT it's only done 3000 miles - which to me means that it was registered in 99 to get a sales bonus and, apart from the odd drive, it's been sitting there ever since!
So - does this make it a bad buy. If not, what should he get done before buying it...e.g. oil, coolant, ATF fluid???
Also, how much should he pay - I reckon no more than 12K...
thanks Read more
You could try the discussion forum at www.nissan200sx.co.uk for an authoritative answer - what those folks on there don't know about the 200 ain't worth knowing. One of the regular contributors works for a Nissan main dealer, so he may be able to get your friend a better deal!

You can buy them here, still shrink wrapped from the maker, sold openly in the markets, about $10 per.
Now if they are available openly here, I have to believe that they are available, at least on the black market, in the UK.
