just bought a morris minor. - chris watson
hello everyone, i am really chuffed that i have a 1955 morris minor, i picked it up from north yorkshire last night, but the problems have started, not with the car, but with the bl**dy thieves, i was driving down to the coast, when the police pulled me over for not indicating, when i bought the car it had indicators, but when the police pulled me over the pop out indicator arms are missing.
Re: just bought a morris minor. - Michael
pulled over for not indicating...gosh you are unlucky. There's never anyone around to spot tailgating and reckless driving and you get caught forgetting to indicate. I hope they let you off with a friendly word of advice and wished you on your way.

Well done Chris. Morris Minors have always been associated with bad news in my motoring life. Is this another candidate for the Universal Supercharger? Plenty of room under the bonnet.
Re: just bought a morris minor. - andy bairsto

According to Count Quentula, Russia is the big market for used Ladas. Can't they be sold there?

Cheers

Re: just bought a morris minor. - andy bairsto
The russians drive ladas I think, not stolen mercs etc .On my last trip to Moscow
I was astounded at the new limos on the street some still with there original plates
Re: just bought a morris minor. - Jonathan
Apparently, if a stolen car makes it across the border into Russia, it becomes the official property of the person who brought it in.

Amazing.

Must be to do with bringing value into a useless economy.

Here we go again...... - David Lacey
It never used to be like this here.........

It used to be a nice, polite place to come after a day at work.

Even used it as a medium to speak to my brothers...

is it true that the petrol tank of the trabant is on top of the engine, if so then this must be why your selling.
Re: just bought a morris minor. - Adam Going (Tune-Up Ltd)
Think you need a hearing aid Chris, as from what I remember the traficator arms make enough noise to let you know they are there.

A good driver should always listen to what is going on around him !!

Regards, Adam
Re: just bought a morris minor. - Andy Bairsto
My 1937 austin 10 you always new when the arm did not come out by the lack of the big clunk sound ,that was a signal to hammer the door piller or put your arm out of the window, which you never did in winter it was to bloody cold

Chris,
My first car... 1955 Morris Minor series11. 803cc OHV. YNU 415 reg.
Great car did my courting in it. Those indicators, did you know they are self cancelling on a timer.
Used to give an old fella a lift home at night in it. On at least four occassions when I stopped outside his house he got out and broke the big yellow indicator.
I replaced it each time. In effect it used to cost me to give the old bugger a lift.
You think I would have remembered to cancel them when I stopped.
Still you can't win em all..

Re: Antique road show. - Alvin Booth
Andy,
Did I detect just a tiny bit of jealousy in your message.
When Chris's collection become valuable collectors items you may regret not having them yourself.

Re: Here we go again...... - Andy
Back in the mid 70's, I used to drive my firm's 1970 Minor van. What a vehicle! OK, it was very basic and fairly gutless, but it was so dependable! Even on a freezing cold winter's morning (and you'll remember we had proper winters back then) with the doors frozen shut and ice everywhere it was just a matter of applying about one inch of choke and..... brrrrmmm! first time!
And it never stalled, even though it sounded like it was going to. Chug chug chug and away we went.
Unlike the pigging Ford escort that came along later, what a dog that was. Damp overnight? No start. Fog? No start. Special mornings when it was vital to get to work on time? You guessed it......
Re: Here we go again...... - Mark (Brazil)
I'm not surprised about the Escort.

I had a Capri, on a old morning you had one shot. If the engine was in good knick, then the one revolution the starter motor managed might start it.

This was a miilion year old 1.3. Interestingly some years later I had the last ditch offering 2.8i. It was exactly the same.
