Anyone know of a company that can do this without problems. Feedback I get fromAutogas is there is a problem with backfire on inj & engine warning lights come on on the lpg tested v8 jeep Read more
Hi
those of you who are long-ish term regulars wil be familiar with this, but this is the latest...!
Having been advised to disconnect the egr valve , to alleviate the smokiness - tried it, no significant improvement - I put the Focus in today for a full diagnostic check on its thirst.
Just had a call, "The only fault indicated was a duff egr valve - Ford's will do a goodwill payment of 60%, and your extended warranty will cover the rest" !!!
The job requires a new inlet manifold so total will be c£175 - the garage man was, of course, reluctant to predict any improvement in consumption. Watch this space - if you are the slightest bit interested, that is!
Since the car has been like this since new, one can only assume that the valve has always been faulty. I can't see that it should affect mpg - what d'you experts say?

Help please, somebody has given my Saab a brand new sunroof using only a stanley knife.
Does anybody know if it can be repaired, the cut is about 4-5 inches above my head..
If so is it cost effective or should I get on the phone to the insurers ?
Any help would be greatly apprecited
Regards

Phil,
Sorry to hear about that. Makes you wish you could get your hands on the culprits and cut bits out of them with a Stanley knife, doesn't it? But you just know whose side the law would be on if you did...
I've just had a new hood fitted to my car by the Don Trimming Company in Birmingham, and they were very good - knowledgeable and reasonably priced. I'm sure they won't mind giving you some free advice and a quote. Their number's 0121 373 1313.
Cheers,
Ian.
That'll be me then.
Dealer has pointed out that the 'sticker' (see thread below if you don't know what I'm talking about) is in fact the edge of the reflective coating. They cut around the rear view mirror so it attaches to the glass, not the coating, and then for aesthetic purposes cut it much bigger than it needs to be. Thought it was stuck on well....and clear...so clear there was nothing there......
Mystery solved. Very embarrassed.
Apologies to those who racked brains for me last week and to those who thought this thread would be more interesting than it turned out to be! Read more
My sister and her hubby are looking to to buy an estate car in order to carry her dog and imminently arriving first child (plus associated stuff) in relative comfort.
Apparently they've seen cheap brand new Marea Weekends at Motorpoint and are tempted.
However I've read HJ's summary and it gives them a mixed review. and after my own dealings with our local Fiat dealer (DC Cook - I wonder what happened to them?!?) I wouldn't recommend Fiat ever again!!
Should they go with the Fiat or look for something pre-owned for the same price (around £7k).
If the pre-owned route is to be pursued any recommendations on what to look at?
As usual many thanks for any advice given!! Read more
Phil,
A £7000 Xantia TD Estate will be a very nice car. But then the regulars will say I would say that.
A very practical car with some style and a super TD engine.

It came up in conversation yesterday that current vw golf's are easy to break into by levering the barrel out of the door handle with a screw driver. This person claims to have seen "loads" of golfs in car parks with damaged locks. Does anyone know if there is any truth in this rumour? Read more
If you own a mk.2 golf etc, dont forget to put plates on the back doors. I see many five door golfs and Jetta which have amoured door plates on the front doors only. The rear doors are just as easy to brake into. Euro Car Parts sells them for £8.55 plus vat per pair i believe- but they are not the best quality, and require the door to be filed to get them to fit properly. Additionaly they can cause very slight disfiguration of the door, even when fitted properly. The panel surrounding the plate is depressed slightly.
VAG sell better ones, but they are very expensive. I belive Volkspares sells the same parts at a more reasonable price.

despite wax injection, the (original) tailgate on 1994 VR6 has "gone" in 2 places - a (second hand car) dealer tells me this is "quite common" ..
any other victims out there, please?
as with Polo doors, does VW has a rust problem?
thanks

My Mark III Gti had some rust appearing just above the plastic trim thay runs along just above the number plate and holds the boot lock escutcheon and number plate lights. When this was removed the area around the lamp holder had rusted quite badly as well. I was told that this was quite common.

Should a 2000 model Jaguar S type be able to go longer than 8 days, fully alarmed without running the battery dead? If so, what do I need to say to a dealer who claims there are no problems with it? If not, what to do to avoid the problem?
Many thanks in advance. Read more

I tend to agree (of course!), but getting the dealer to do so is the problem. Still, I shall apprise him of your view and tell him to apply David Woolard's advice and see what happens.
Grateful thanks to both of you.

Thanks Guy - will give them a call
