BMW X5 eDrive

Rivalling the launch of the Range Rover Hybrid was BMW’s X5 eDrive concept. The X5 is powered by a four-cylinder engine, coupled to a 70kw/95PS electric motor. The eDrive features the same all-wheel drive system as the standard X5, but has a lithium-ion battery positioned underneath the car to ensure that its load capacity isn’t compromised. BMW claims its concept can return 74mpg and 90g/km of CO2, as well as being capable of travelling 19 miles in electric-only mode. BMW hasn’t committed to production of the X5 eDrive, but insiders say it’s earmarked for a 2016 roll out.
