Southern Backroom Meet - Beaulieu - No Do$h
I would like to propose a Southern Backroom meet at the Beaulieu Motor Musuem in the New Forest (M27/M3 Junction 18 miles, Bournemouth 25 miles, Bristol 80 miles, Central London 95 miles)

Sat 11 October, meet at a pub (TBA) in the vicinity for an early lunch, before taking in the delights that Beaulieu has to offer. ( www.beaulieu.co.uk/ )

For those with families less than overjoyed at the idea of a motor museum, Beaulieu is also able to offer a delightful Palace House and a 16th century Abbey and gardens.

If that doesn't get the familys going, there is also Bucklers Hard ( www.bucklershard.co.uk/ ) and the rest of the New Forest available (bring your waking shoes or your mountain bikes).

Please only post on this thread if you genuinely would like to take part. That way, I can see what kind of space we will need at a local pub.

Hope to see you there,

ND

I simply luuurve that part of the country and would have no hesitation at all apart from the fact that EVERYTHING that I do is (gloriously sunny/blue sky) weather dependent!

If I've committed but find on the day that it's going to be dull, damp and persistently pouring down, then forget it! I'm like those 'supermodels' who won't get out of bed for less than 10 grand a day. I won't leave the building if the forecast isn't more than hopeful.

Only last Thurs I threw the MTB into the back of the motor and set out for Bournemouth. Nice early start and on my wheels along the esplanade by 9:00am heading towards Poole/Studland/Swanage. The weatherman was accurate, the kids had returned to school, the sun shone and shone all day. Fish 'n' chips on the quayside @ Lymington early evening on the way home. Most certainly my kind of day. But I digress...

Bucklers Hard is a lovely spot but I'm not aware of any hostelries nearby. There's the Beaulieu Road Arms/Hotel on the B3056 right next to the railway line/station. Large car park, large gardens, etc. The Montague Arms in Beaulieu itself, but perhaps a tad too popular with other punters over a Saturday lunchtime? Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst? I'm orf to do some detective work.

Laters...

As Beaulieu is less than 5 mile from home I could be up for this one.
Beaulieu Road Pub is OK, but if you want Beefeater stylee fare the place to go is The Heath in Diben Purlieu, about 4 miles from Beaulieu, just off the main A326. Fancy a decent pint in a spit n sawdust pub try The Lord Nelson (my beloved Nellie), in Hythe village (5 miles), they also do food but this is one small pub, if there footie on forget it. Dont bother with anything in Beaulieu itself, to dam pricey, and probably busy too.
A bit off the beaten track but with probably the best food at reasonable prices anywhere in the UK, try the Fleur de Lys in Pilley (I dont own it honest), about 3 miles Lymington side of Beaulieu.
Here endeth the tourist information broadcast.

Beaulieu Motor Museum is good, but the price is quite high
