Ford Ka 2010, (New shape). - Heater Resistor - dingermech62

Can anyone help me please?

I have a 2010 Ford Ka and the heater fan speed only works on speed 4. I have read speeds 1, 2 & 3 are controlled via a heater resistor and it is highly likely the resistor has failed, I also understand the failure may be caused by a faulty heater blower motor. I have also read the MKI Ka's, (old shape), heater resistors were easily accessible in the passenger footwell but the new shape Ka's heater resistors are located behind the dashboard and more difficult to get to.

Has anyone out there changed one of these heater resistors on a new shape model Ka? and if so where is the heater resistor located? Are there any special tools required, e.g. trim removal tools etc? Thank you, I'll be grateful if anyone can advise.

Thanks Teccy sound like it's a straightforward replacement then. Is it an essential genuine Ford replacement part or are there substitutes available of a similar quality?

You could try a Fiat dealer,the car is similar to a Fiat 500 model.

Yeah thanks. I should be able to get the part ok. I'm more interested in where this resistor is mounted. I don't want to start stripping out the dash unnecessarily.

Have a look on ebay, there used to be a few new ones listed on there, assuming it is the same resistor pack that have been fitted to most Fords since the early 2000's, (they were pretty much all the same).

A few things to bear in mind though as to why the resistor pack has packed up (normally they have overheated and burnt out the thermal fuse). 1, Check the plug that plugs into the resistor pack, they often melt and can short out on the pins. 2, Check that the fan motor is not on its way out, it can cause too much electrical resistance and overheat the resistor pack. 3, Ensure that there is enough air flow into the heater box from outside, if it has a cabin filter make sure it is not blocked. The resistor pack relies on a flow of cool air across it in the ducting where it lives to keep it cool.

Thanks Simon that was helpful. I'll check all the items you have mentioned, The car is not long out of warranty and has been Ford serviced, Filter should be ok but must not make assumptions!

The new shape KA is basically a Fiat 500.

My daughter has just had the same thing. Told they replaced the thermal fuse. It's a new shame ka and been told it's a pig of a job compared to the old shape ka. Is that correct? Or as you say is it just one screw in the new shape also.
