I was sold a car with a false service history - where do I legally stand?

I recently bought a car. It was stated on service book that the timing belt had been changed and the service book was stamped, but I've now found out it wasn't. I've had it changed as a precaution due to the mileage, as well as contacting the seller about the issue. They deny they stamped or signed the book. Isn't this falsifying service history? Where do I legally stand?

You have the evidence of the service book that they supplied with the car and a small claims judge is more likely to believe you than them. If they will not willingly make good your cost in having the belt changed, sue them for it: www.gov.uk/make-court-claim-for-money
