Buying a new small car - what would you recommend?

My 17 year old daughter passed her test last week and we want to buy her a car. We have narrowed our choice to the Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1, as they all look similar. Can you tell us which car would offer the lowest running costs and be best to drive?

They aren't roughly the same. They are the same. They follow each other down the same Czech production line. Consequently, best value is usually the Citroen C1, but the Toyota Aygo now has a five year warranty.
