What is a 'map nav'?

In your reply about buying satnav for an impending European trip in 10 days time you recommended that, rather than learn the quirks of a satnav, I instead use "map nav". What is "map nav" and what platform does it operate on?

It's a folding paper directional guide commonly known as a map.
