Best tyre size for comfort on Lexus CT?

What’s the best tyre size for comfort on the Lexus CT? It's currently fitted with R16s but the ride seems hard. Can they be changed to R15s?

The choice is between 16-inch alloy wheels with 205/55 R16 tyres that are relatively okay or 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/45R17 tyres that ride much harder and less pleasantly. To improve ride comfort the 205/55 R16s could be swapped for Continental AllSeason Contacts, Michelin Cross Climates or Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons.
