Can someone tell me what the following is worth at auction please? Also what the work would cost to get done. Volvo V40 'Classic' '03 Reg 1.9 Diesel 'S' 115BHP 122,000 miles Full Volvo Service Handbook It needs the following work: New discs & pads all round New headlight New drivers seatbelt. 125k Service It was my old company car - I've since left the firm but am still friends with the fleet manager, so that's how I know the miles are mainly motorway, and about the repairs.
  • Mondeo TD odd noise 12 May 2006 (Forum)
The car is a 2000 Mondeo 1.8 TD (one of the last of the Endura DE engined mk2's) The problem is an odd low pitched "chattering" noise coming from the cambelt / aux belt(s) area of the engine. It's most noticeable at idle from outside the car, although you can pick it up inside as well.

  • Driving in the Rain 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Major gripes from this morning\'s drive into work: Why do people drive in minimal visibility with no lights on or sidelights only? Was the motorcyclist I saw without lights actually trying to commit suicide or did he think that everyone else had xray vision?
  • VW Touran luggage cover 28 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I am thinking of buying a VW Touran and have a question regarding the retractable parcel shelf. I recently took a test drive in a petrol driven S model although I am thinking of buying the diesel Sport. The S model was an ex demo and one fo the first Tourans and the luggage cover was a tiny affair that only covered the small space if all 7 seats were up.
  • Exhilarating car required 2 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Great value and build quality; a real rocket. MINI Cooper S? Value compared with Works; fun, MINIs a bit common. Well preserved Porsche 3.2 Carrera? Even more character, low depreciation; even older than 964, so safety issue greater (does it matter?); lots of grunt for 13 grand.
  • Car losing it? Or bad driving? Fiesta. 25 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The ones on now are Firestone (no idea as to the model number) and the previous ones were Pirelli P500 Z\'s. Recently when going at high speed (usually 65 onwards) the car has occasionally felt that it\'s lost grip - so much so that you can feel it in the wheel and then it seems to grip again. I\'ve looked at all tyres and they seem fine - probably because they\'re relatively new.
  • Triumph 2000 C.R. output etc 24 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I had remembered I thought that the Mark 1 had more power than a Mark 2, but ascribed it to the wrong reason. You were right, the Mark 2's CR is higher, but according to a very authoritative article by Chris Witor in the latest Six Appeal, the Mark 1's carburation and specifically inlet manifold give it a higher torque and power. Hence the slightly better performance from the earlier car.
  • Tyre advice 22 Feb 2004 (Forum)
It's going to need two new tyres in the near future though, so I intend to move the front ones onto the back and get new fronts. It takes 205/50/R16's, and currently has Dunlop SP Sport 9000's all round, which have alloy wheel rim protector things on it. I've found these tyres for £87 at Mytyres, and the writeup on the test links they give make them sound pretty good.
  • Flat battery again. vw polo 2 Feb 2004 (Forum)
VW assistance guy managed to narrow it down to a .4 amp drain on the battery from the central locking circuit by removing the fuses one by one until the drain returned to normal .014 amp drain. This must be an intermittant problem as it\'s been fine since May. I\'m taking it in to the garage tomorrow but I\'d be grateful for any thoughts in the meantime..... CF {I\'ve editied the subject header to something more appropriate that\'ll catch a reader\'s eye.
  • Need a fiat tipo diesel pump, 1.7 1993 4 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Found one, but then the breakers yard sent it to scotland by mistake and can\'t get it back, so another is required. Don\'t really want to buy a new one since it would be more than the car\'s worth. The old pump\'s bearings have gone and is generally knackered, diesel pump guy over here on the isle of man thinks that it is beyond repair so basically can anyone help, i\'ve sent requests off to the used spares parts that come off google, if anyone has another other ideas I would be greatful.
  • Tyre size dilemma 4 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I have a 2001 Seat Alhambra S TDi (115bhp) which is fitted with 205/60/15 tyres (reinforced). I phoned Costco to find out the price of replacements and they said that 205/60/15's were £88 each, but that the recommended tyre for my vehicle is a 195/65/15 (reinforced) at £64 each.

  • Minor door repair - How much? 12 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Job well done and forgotten till today when I saw what looked like a more attractive set of door protectors in Halfords. You can guess the rest, pulling off the original protector took a chunk of paint with it! s**s law, this is just big enough to remain unhidden under the door protector. Galvanised body on the Lupo, so no worries there but it looks unsightly. Any idea what I might be looking at cost wise for a minor repair and a small bit of paint touch-up, or do they just want to replace the whole panel nowadays?

  • ZX LH engine mount 9 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I assume that it is meant to be round and the fact that it doesn\'t fully contact the sleeve that goes on the the protruding stud from the top of the gearbox means that movt is possible and this could be the source of the vibration. Am I right? Is this lower part of the bush meant to be oval. Even if it\'s not the cause is it qorth replacing it anyway?? Car\'s done 128000m. cheers for your help.
  • Shortlist opinions? 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Fuel consumption, driving dynamics and 'image' are relatively unimportant. Having said that, I can't quite manage to spell out the 523's manufacturer; so some aspects of 'image' may well rule out a begrudgingly-good car!! Budget is £9k tops, to be sourced from auction, and 'S'-plate or newer (with commensurate mileage - 100k+ not a problem).
  • Alfa 166 3.0 Auto 15 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The dealer advises me that it appears that the manual lock up on the torque converter cuts in in fourth at too low a speed and that this is the cause of the problem. It does not seem to be as pronounced a problem on other 166's that are around, however there are not so many 166's in Australia so it is hard to tell whether this is a design fault or is isolated to my car. It can be overcome by driving it around in tiptronic mode which keeps the car in third to well above 60kms per hour, however it tends to burn fuel and keeps the speed cameras happy.
