Skoda Octavia II - Rear High LED Problem 30 Mar 2012 (Forum)
I have just purchased a '05 Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi. I have noticed today that the Rear Centre Brake LED stays dimly lit even when the car is turned off and locked. Its just 3 led's on each side of the line. 6 in total. When the brake pedal is pressed the whole line lights up as normal plus the 2 other brake lights. -
VW Bora 1.6 - brake discs - why so cheap? 4 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Had cause to buy 2 x rear brake discs (non vented ) for a Bora and got them via Ebay. I bought a known make (Brembo) and they cost me £25 for the pair delivered free. Working the sums out for these discs - the supplier got paid £25 from which he takes away 20% vat (£5.00) then he has to take away postage cost (say £5.00) then he takes away a minimal profit (say £3.00 each = £6.00) which means he's paid about £4.50 each for the discs. -
02 Mondeo diesel Estate - rear brake calipers 28 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Hello, I changed the rear brake pads on my 02 Mondeo yesterday. Had a devil of a job to get the pistons back in to make space for new pads (broke a decent sized g-clamp trying). Ended up taking them off, getting them in a vice and hammering them back in (desperate men do desperate things!) -
Toyota Yaris 1.0L T3 2006/56 - Toyota Yaris brake calliper bolt size??? 14 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I am trying to change my daughters front brake pads for her - an easy job I thought. I have done a few in my time but, the bolts on the callipers are not moving out when I try to undo them. I have bought a new socket set and it feels like the 12 mm fits but, I can't see past the rubber boot that surrounds the bolt head. -

Mazda MX5 (1998-2005) - 04 1600 Brake sticking on 11 Feb 2010 (Forum)
My MX5 had new discs and pads last year, has been parked up more or less since September with only a few runs out. Took it out yesterday and it seems like the drivers side brake is sticking on - funny smell, wheel hot. I've arranged to take it to a local garage tomorrow but was wondering what may be causing it - I'm hoping a bit of lubrication will be the fix, but could it be more serious, i.e. expensive? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 How to slacken handbrake cable to change Bk 2 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I have already replaced one side of my Ford Focus's rear brakes, replacing the disc rotor and the brake pads with very few problems. But on the other side I have been trying for hours to try and remove the handbrake cable from the rear brake calliper in order to fit the new disc / pads - but it just won't budge....it's a good 2 mm short of clearing the hook it's held in with. -
Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.4 High pitched screech 22 May 2009 (Forum)
My Rover 200 is experiencing an intermittant high pitched screech from what I believe is the front driver-side wheel or brake. It seems to start when I have not used the brake for 5-10 minutes, for instance when driving on the motorway. As soon as I apply the brake (a gentle tap does the trick), the sound immediately stops, but soon restarts after a minute or so. -
High Level brake lights 14 May 2009 (Forum)
I'm very sure that when it pulled off and got to the bottom of the street there was no middle "high visibility" brake light I thought it was EU regs that all cars sold in Europe after 1998 had to have one The car looked modern so I'm guessing it was made in the last 10 years Don't get me wrong I don't go round checking I just happened to notice as I was admiring it as it drove off -
Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 04 1.4 New brake discs required? 13 May 2009 (Forum)
Question - what are "lipped" discs and is it normal to require new discs at this low mileage. Is it inadvisable to replace pads but retain discs in "lipped" state. Certainly want braking performance to be optimum so won't penny pinch if this does need done, £215 quoted for front pads and discs. Would appreciate any advice given. -
Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 00 z18zxe check control gone a bit loopy 7 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I've replaced both bulbs and cleaned / bent the contacts in the cluster to make sure all is Ok, but still showing 'brake light' on the TID. Any ideas anyone? -
Renault Laguna II (2001 - 2007) - 02 3.0 Jerks from a standing start in auto 7 Nov 2008 (Forum)
So i bought a second hand Laguna 2 3.0 2002 and i love it but recently i've noticed a problem. If i'm stopped and in auto, when i let go of the brake and push the accelerator there is a jerk and then the power comes. I've played around with this and i found that there is about a second delay between when i let go of the brake and when the throttle kicks it with a little jerk, however if i release the brake and then jump on the throttle right away there is a large jerk. -
Audi A3 + S3 (1996 - 2001) - 98 1.8 Brake Lights Not working/Now not starting 15 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, The brake lights stopped working on my Audi A3 1.8, checked the fuse which appeared to be ok, but just to check i swapped it with another 10 amp fuse in the rack. Unbeknown to me i had just swapped it with the power supply for the onboard diagnosis/telephone. -
Volkswagen T2 Bay Window (2000 - 2007) - Bleeding brakes on old car without foot-pedal 23 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi - have to bleed the brakes on a 1972 camper van but don't really want to depress the footpedal too much for fear of damaging the seals by pushing into rough places they have not been for years and ending up with a very expensive master cylinder replacement - this happened on another old car I had. -
Why isn't corrosion on discs removed by pads? 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
One of the rear brake discs of my car has a band of heavy corrosion on one of the braking faces, about 8 mm wide at the outside of the disc. The rest of the disc's face is clean. I'm not concerned about it because it's passed two MOTs, but I'm curious as to why this corrosion hasn't been worn away by normal use of the brakes. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.4 Brake overhaul-bleeding 7 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Need some help please. Helping a friend bleed his brakes after he had fitted new rear discs and pads and despite having bled all 4 wheels we can get no pedal at all when the engine is running. There is something there before you start the engine but when you do the pedal goes straight to the floor. -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 03 2.5 Wheel overheating 26 May 2008 (Forum)
I would put this down to the brakes binding but the car does not pull to one side when braking. Performance and fuel economy seem to be OK. Anyone with any ideas? -
Mazda 626 (1997 - 1999) - V reg - 2ltr - Corroded Brake Pipes 25 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I got advisory on brake pipes recently. I've had a look at them. They are mostly still coated in plastic. The part where they are slightly corroded is where they are bare a few inches from the flexi hose. Can the life of these pipes be prelonged? -
Brake parts - various manufacturers and quality? 30 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Hello, I have just received new brake discs and pads for our Clio ordered off e-Bay, they are the larger 259mm discs (the non ABS 238mm discs are a lot cheaper). Paid under £40 delivered (only bidder so got for reserve, buy-it-now was £45 + del). -
Fancy tail lights: form over function? 24 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I followed an Altea (regular, I think, not XL) up to a roundabout in gloomy light this afternoon. As it braked for the roundabout, I realized that, although the right indicator was flashing (and had been before the brake lights came on) I could barely see it. I've noticed something like this before on recent Golfs and possibly other VAG products.
