I’m also impressed by the Mercedes C Class. Living in London and covering around 6,000 to 8,000 miles locally, plus potentially an additional 6,000 motorway miles on holiday trips, would you recommend petrol or diesel in any of the cars above? Overall, which of the 4 cars above would you recommend? Also, what would you personally recommend as a compromise, knowing that I currently own a VW Passat and is looking at the above cars? -

. I currently drive a VW Polo automatic with hand controls fitted, but it is now 15 years old and my mechanic who I've used for years tells me it might not pass the MOT test, due to bodywork. I await your advice. PR, Nottingham The basic Dacia Sandero 1.2 75PS is very basic with wind-up windows and not even a radio. One of our guys had one for a while and his reports are here: /our-cars/dacia-sandero/ There is no automatic version. -
Future of Pass Plus 9 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Whilst flicking through the DSA magazine (dad gets it being a driving instructor) I noticed that the success or not of Pass Plus is currently being questioned. One incentive for new drivers to take the test is the possibility of securing lower insurance rates, but research is finding that Pass Plus drivers have just as many 'own fault' insurance claims as non Pass Plus drivers. -
Pass Plus 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Also I hold a full Category A license which I passed in April of last year and I am an associate member of IAM on a motorcycle. So I am not really sure if its worth it. So the question is Pass Plus or not to Pass Plus? Cheers -
Pass Plus 15 Oct 2007 (Forum)
My 22 yo step son has just passed his driving test today. One of the 38% who get through first time in Chesterfield. He is now going for Pass Plus, a good thing I believe. But does it really make a big difference to insurance premiums or do only some companies accept it. -
Pass Plus in Scotland 23 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Apparently the Scottish Executive has decided to sponsor the pass plus course to the tune of £75, so it should now only cost you £15 if you live north of the border If you know anybody who is eligible, do all you can to encourage them ! -- Go on, get out of the car... http://www.mikes-walks.co.uk -
Pass Plus in N. Ireland 10 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Hi folks, I was wondering if any one could recommend an instructor for the Pass Plus course in Northern Ireland, (Greater Belfast, North Down area). This is for my 18yr old son who has just passed his driving test. Unfortunately we could not get insurance to cover him for the main family car and therefore his experience is quite limited. -

Ambleside by pass? 26 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Thinking of taking my carvan {23 foot, plus 16 foot Volvo} through Ambleside in the Lakes on Easter Monday, en route from Coniston to Keswick. Anyone had experience of the traffic {North bound} on an Easter Monday thro' Ambleside ? Don't fancy taking the Caravan over the kirkstone Pass, the M6 is a long way around and via Sellafield even worse ! -

Getting my 17 year old on the road 3 Jun 2006 (Forum)
My son is coming up to 17 and keen to get onto the road. I've got about £5k to get him started - car plus insurance. I am totally unclear about how to tackle this - should I buy a car once he has passed his test (and his pass plus)? Should I buy him a car to learn in? Should the car be in my name, or his?
