It did everything a Volvo saloon didn’t – it looked striking, it was avant-garde, it had a futuristic cabin, it was front-wheel-drive, it was a hatchback, it had pop-up headlights, it wasn’t built in Sweden and it had seriously flaky build quality. In order to add to the lunacy, Volvo added a turbocharged version, which exploited the rather obvious limitations of the chassis. -

For only the third time in more than half a century, this year’s route took participants – all driving cars from the pre-1905 era – past Buckingham Palace and down The Mall before heading past Big Ben and over Westminster Bridge. The first few cars began to arrive on Maderia Drive shortly after 10am – the 1903 Berliet driven by John Bentley just pipping the 1904 Fiat of Dutchman Jan Bruijn to the honour of being first past the finishing post. -

Toyota Issues Steering Recall 14 Nov 2012 (News)
On certain Avensis, Corolla and Prius models (July 2001 to April 2009) there is a possibility of an issue with a component 1 in the steering system, prompting a knocking or rattling and possibly a reduction in steering response 1 . In such circumstances, the vehicle will remain safe to drive. There have been nine reported cases of this issue in Europe and no reports of any associated accidents. 1: Due to insufficient hardness treatment of some of the extension shafts, the splines that connect the extension shaft to the steering gearbox may deform if the steering wheel is frequently and forcefully turned to the full left or full right position while driving at slow speeds. This deformation may create increased internal clearance and the splines may eventually, over time, wear out. -

Toyota states there is no other car on the UK market that exactly matches the benefits offered by its Prius Plug-in Hybrid Synergy Drive full hybrid powertrain: it offers the near-silent, zero emissions performance of an electric vehicle, being able to run on its lithium-ion battery for around 15.5 miles (v/s 30 miles for the Ampera) and at speeds up to 51mph. -

Hybrid-powered cars have CO2 outputs ranging from 89g/km to 219g/km, yet all are exempt from the London Congestion Charge. Volvo's What Car? Green Car of the Year-winning S40 1.6D DRIVe with Start/Stop technology emits just 104g/km yet drivers are charged £8.00 to enter the capital. Similarly, Volvo's DRIVe C30 Sportscoupe and V50 Sportswagon models also emit 104g/km but none of them are exempt from the charge. -
