  • All makes - The future of Company Cars 15 Jun 2017 (Forum)
with all the major manufacturers including Toyota, Lexus, BMW etc leading the way with petrol hybrid models it's interesting to learn that the company car users are reluctant to have their diesels taken off them. Unless you are a city trader living in Maidenhead and travelling to the city wher a hybrid is ideal, the average rep may prefer the certainty of a diesel starting without charging , having a great range and only needs filling up once or twice a week , instead of three times with a large petrol.
  • Toyota MR2 1994 - Intermittent fault, misfires and revs only to 3500 7 Jun 2017 (Forum)
The engine misfires and revs to only 3500rpm, enough for me to limp home. Have had the vehicle looked after by a first class independent garage, who have changed the HT leads, Distributor and HT pack about two weeks ago, and done the usual code checks on engine to no avail? Problem has resurfaced again after a brief run? Problem appears after engine has warmed up with "Engine" fault lighting up on dashboard accompanied with engine misfiring above 3500 rpm?
  • Isuzu Trooper - Starter Motor 26 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Needless to say, the moment we've decided to sell it, the starter motor has started to act up. My husband thinks we should probably put a new one on, but reading all the info leads me to suppose it's a s*** job. I'm inclined to ask less and let someone else put a new starter motor on it. My husband thinks if the starter motor spins before it starts, no one buy it. Looking at other ads for Troopers (a brilliant tow car) we are not asking an excessive price and would knock £150 for the start motor.
  • Renault Grand Scenic - water flooding into footwell 23 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Renault tell me that it is due to debris falling through the grills (there to stop this from happening!) and clogging the drainage. The overflow apparently leading directly into the interior of the car! Surely this is a manufacturing fault?? They say it now needs to be dismantled to be cleaned -NOT covered by guarantee - even though I had a service done 6 months ago.
  • Ford Fiesta - Fiesta lacking power and shuddering 16 May 2016 (Forum)
I went back to garage (core plug was leaking) and they fixed it a 2nd time. now I have a misfire on cylinder 3, I've changed the plug leads but car still feels underpowered and I can feel (myself & car) juddering when stationary with engine idling, should I replace coil? Or is there any other suggestions you may have, any ideas greatly apreciated.
  • Nissan Micra K12 - Car isn't starting 29 Sep 2015 (Forum)
When I tried to turn it on yesterday there was nothing on the dashboard. Even hazard lights weren't coming on. So I thought it was the battery. So once I got the jump leads connected to my Honda Accord the dashboard lights and hazard lights came on but when I was turning the key there was nothing. Starter motor isn't even kicking in. My brother-in-law thinks its the immobiliser.
  • Golf Mk4 1.9 TDI - Golf Mk4 1.9 TDI Starting Issues 12 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Hi There   hoping someone may be able to help, recently my Golf started having issues when starting, sometimes from either cold or once engine is warm if i start it it wont turn over and the alarm sounds once, occasionally it will then start but nine times out of ten i have to put some jump leads on to get it started.   This seems to be an intermittent problem as does not happen all the time, the other thing i noticed is when it does this not all of the locks have opened on the car, could this be an issue with the alarm, immobiliser or battery?
  • Ford Fiesta 08 1.4tdci (old model) - Fuel Filler Cap Leaking 10 Jul 2014 (Forum)
There are constant diesel marks on the panal around the filler cap (I wash my car regularly, so these are always new); if I brim it, these marks are then huge - which leads me to think that I am loosing a lot of diesel. I've already replaced the cap once (2 months back) and then this cured it for a couple of weeks. I've wiped around the seal and the cap many times and this has not cured it.
  • Ford Mondeo Estate 2007 - Alarm sounding, could this be the culprit ? 26 Mar 2014 (Forum)
A couple of days ago I put a new head unit in and had to remove the flexible panel over the top of the pedals to run mic and aux leads. This necessitated the removal of the component as shown below. Since I did this,  the alarm goes off after about 25 seconds whether I use the key of the fob to lock it. It happens every time.
  • Spark plugs 5 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The Proprietor showed me how the plugs are reached by taking off the inlet manifold and how the cylinders have individual coils - and how the restricted breathing leads the coils to fail through overheating.  That and the increasingly wide plug gaps requiring higher and higher voltage.  That car had done 70,000 plus miles on the original spark plugs until one of the coils had failed.
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso sx 16v 1.8L Petrol 02 plate - Citroen Xsara Picasso Fault......Help 9 Nov 2013 (Forum)
The Engine Auto Diagnosis light is intermittently coming on every now and again, but worse than that, today the car lost pull basically, How best to describe it. If you start a normal car and un plug one of the 4 HT leads the car struggles and splutters, its a bit like that. Now i have a baby due in 4 days and am no millionaire, what can it be. From my own reserach it could be the Coil, It could be a electrical wireing fault (there was a burning smell for some time coming from somewhere) or a problem with the fual injection....
  • Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCI - Starting problem. 9 Feb 2013 (Forum)
After aload of investigating I'm still no closer to finding out what is wrong with it. Initially i thought it might of had a bad earth but after bridging a lead from the negative terminal to the engine hoist bracket it still wouldn't turn over even tried another battery but nothing. • VW Polo - Fuse spade connector for 12v feed 20 Aug 2012 (Forum)
A crimped spade connector piggy backs on to the rear of the fuse. It seems easy to replace the wiring, however it lead me to think I should get a replacement fuse in case this special fuse, from which the feed is provided, blows.  I've done a search but can find nothing that looks like it.   Anyone know the name - it's basically a car mini fuse wich has been replaced and has a spade connector from which you take your 12v feed.

  • Peugeot 205 - Car Insurance Renewals 31 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I received an email a week ago from my insurer AA advising that I could rest assured this renewal as their 'AA DEAL CHECKER' would automatically compare quotes from 20 leading insurers to combine the excellent benefits of AA Insurance with a great price. This week my renewal notice arrived from AA with a quote which was about 50% higher than last year.  I also received an email the same day from Moneysupermarket having used my details from last year quoting a premium from the AA with identical cover for about 30% less.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.4 Hesitation from when trying to accelerate 10 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Had the top threaded core plugs resealed due to water leaks. Had a mis-fire (engine management light flashing), replaced spark plugs, leads and coils. Car seemed to run better - no mis-fire. The only issue now is that when asking the car to accelerate it gives a slight hesitation then accelerates. There is no engine management light flashing and it does not happen all the time.
  • Nissan Micra K11 2001 - Flashing engine light: stuck brake? 5 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I'll have to check after toninghts journey home. Brakes work OK, there is no leaking brake fluid. Question: A stuck brake wouldn't lead to a flashing engine light, would it? Or is that a red herring?
  • Ford Mondeo III 1.8 LX - Battery replacement 28 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Halfords do Bosch 'Silver' batteries or Halfords branded 'Calcium' batteries, both of which come up when my car details are entered, but then again so do their Lead Acid versions, so I'm not sure how trustworthy the suggestions are. Does anyone know whether either the Bosch Silver or Halfords Calcium are safe to use and, if so, is there anything I should be aware of when fitting the new one please?
  • 2000 Audi A6 2.4 Tiptronic - Tapping Engin noise 30 Oct 2010 (Forum)
It sounds as a loose bolt, knocking against something, I have tried to find out where its coming from by using a stethoscope, listened to various areas, parts to no avail. Could you please give me some possible leads before I take it to the dealer. The car drives fine, the noise does not get worse with higher revolutions, it stays constant. Any suggestions?, highly appreciated. Regards Peter
  • Vauxhall Corsa B - Spark plug shorting 3 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Engine management light does not come on.  For those not familier with Corsa there are no HT leads as the coils sit directly on top of the plugs.  I cannot see any damage to the rubber socket for the middle plug. Would some kind soul who knows why this is happening be good enough to enlighten me?
