Engine Design. 20 Apr 2002 (Forum)
It clearly is not so far removed from the compact VAG W unit of today. RR must of had magnetos, spark plugs and HT leads everywhere! Regards, Julian Lindley -
Alloys - why have them? 12 Dec 2001 (Forum)
On the debit side they add in typically £300 -£400 to the cost of a family car. They are a pain to clean and neglecting this chore leads to pitting; they also show the results of any kerbing. The problem is that they have become mandatory on the higher spec models of most cars. SWMBO has a Yaris Verso GLS which is used in shopping trolley mode. -
Mobile Speed Cameras 22 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I assume that you still collect the points and pay the fine, so will the Police draw us into a false sense of security by advertising certain locations and then change them without warning? I would not put it past them as, presumably, there is no legal comeback. This leads me to wonder why they publish the locations at all, as it would be wrong to deter people from speeding only when there is a possibility of being caught and to allow people to speed if they know in advance, by checking the URL address, that they are likely to get away with it. -
astra probs 8 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Also when i start it its very lumpy for the first thirty seconds or so. I've changed the plugs and leads with no effect. Also, since I bought the car (6 months ago) the engine has begin to sound a lot clunkier. I've been recommended by a mechanic friend to put some thicker oil in since the engine is getting on a bit now. -
And so it's farewell..... 16 Sep 2001 (Forum)
CW, you can hold your head high, to be banned from HJ's site must surely strengthen your position as the leading desperado amongst many contenders. You can now retire to your six bedroom mansion in South Shields (recently valued at £5 750) and peruse the local rags for cheap Ladas to perform your essential research upon. -
Car breakdown cure ?? 17 Jul 2001 (Forum)
My sister`s car broke down at the weekend ( misfiring then cut out ) and the Callout man from the Rescue Service says that it looked as though there was a problem with the fuel . To cure it, so he said , he apparently swopped the leads around on the car and revved it hard..This made the engine pop and bang and produced lots of smoke smoke out of the exhaust !!!! This supposedly sorted the problem out. I`ve NEVER heard of this way to clear dirty fuel.. -
Daewoo Nexia wont start 2 Mar 2001 (Forum)
I have a N reg Daewoo Nexia that has failed to start 7 times in the past 4 weeks - and has been with Daewoo on and off for a total of 18 days. I have had the ignition coil, leads, immobiliser sensor coil and key replaced, but no result. It fails to start every two days or so at work when I try to start it (5pm-6pm), but is fine in the morning - even when I left it at work overnight. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 overheating problem? 1 Jan 2014 (Forum)
You can drive around town as much as you like doing anything up to 40mph and it won't happen at all, not even in traffic on a hot day or at traffic lights. There are seemingly many causes of overheating and so far I've been lead towards the following : faulty CHT sensor, faulty thermostat and the blue Ford coolant which has never been renewed, so could do with being replaced. The fact that the temperature gauge can go into the red and then (once you ease of) back again so quickly leads me to suspect a faulty CHT sensor. -
Horrendous Economy or lead foot? 29 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I'm going to post this in Discussion as I think it's more my style than anything wrong with the car. I know I'm a pretty new driver so I've tried out... -
UK auction platform access 20 Feb 2024 (Forum)
(Not sure where to post this so I tried to take the broadest forum space here) So I'm currently leading a research project that requires access to the Motorway UK auction platform, but it is exclusively available to car dealerships. I believe some friendly UK dealers would be on here so I'm reaching out to find one who could help me in accessing the website - I just need to have a quick look at their digital layout/processes, nothing too complex. -
Skoda Octavia 1.2Tsi 2011 - Cylinder 2 Misfire P0302 18 Jul 2023 (Forum)
EML comes randomly on with P0302 code (Cylinder 2 misfire) and sometimes the Electronic Stability Control light as well. Changed plugs (long life) and leads but made no difference. Put a new coil pack on but it made no difference so have returned to the original one. I thought it was coil pack as 2 of the pins looked a bit corroded on original coil pack and 2 were bright shiny. -
Charge interest if he doesn't comply with verdict? 12 Jul 2023 (Forum)
They know my bank details because they were my landlord, and I had sent them my bank details many times in the emails leading up to the Claim. Let's say they owe me £1000. What kind of interest can I charge them? Is it the "statutory interest": 8% + base rate? Since the base rate has changed, how should I calculate the interest? -
Volvo V40 cross country - To sell or keep 8 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I like to see them coming so that I can plan for them. I’m keen on getting a Mini Clubman, but think I’m leading with my head again. There is a 17 plate one with 47000 for sale at the local Mini dealership. -
Any - Insurance renewal - Premium + 28%!! 11 Nov 2020 (Forum)
I have received my annual insurance renewal quote with a leading name insurer, the premium is 28% up on last year. To add insult to injury since lockdown I have driven less than 5% of the declared mileage, I usually drive 20,000 miles, with lockdown in the past 6 months I have driven well under 1,000! -
E82 Car Stereo - Want an powerful car stereo for my E82 2009 17 Aug 2020 (Forum)
I use the car stereo system mainly for playing music when driving or watch videos when I get the car parked. I have taken a look at the leading brands like Xtrons, Kenwood, Pioneer. It seems the Xtrons BS8719UN is the most cost-effective and I likes its appearance. Also, it has QualcommA53 CPU, 4G RAM and 64G ROM. Anyone has used Xtrons before? -
Nissan Micra K11 - Micra K11 headlight bulb holders 3 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Question is as I have searched and can't be sure... Can these bulb holders be had seperatly and what electrical connectors do I need for the leads going into them, they look like pretty old fashioned motorbike 3 prong bulb holders. Links to parts would be very welcome. Many thanks -
Honda Jazz - Can I change the brake pads only for front tyre? 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I understand that it is usual to change the brake discs together with brake pads (etc: my rear tyres). Can I change the brake pads for the front tyres without changing the brake disc? Will it lead to any damage to my front tyre brake discs? Thank you. -
Ford Focus 1.6L Petrol 2009 - Ford Focus Mk2.5 Cigarette Lighter 8 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Hi the contacts in my cigarette lighter look badly corroded and when I plug something into it the connection is dodgy to say the least. I'm thinking about replacing it, I'm just after some advice. I am lead to believe I may be getting a dashcam for Christmas, and to have somewhere to plug it in I guess I need to get this sorted. Does anyone know what the Ford part number is for the cigarette lighter in my car - it's between the gearstick and the cupholders in the middle of the car as shown here and currently has a cap saying 'power outlet - 12V' on it. -
Hyundai i30 - NIP with errors 17 Oct 2018 (Forum)
My wife has received an NIP today dated 11th October referring to an offence on Wednesday 10th August at 2325 hours. 10th August this year was actually a Friday when we were on holiday 150 miles from the alleged location though we would have passed through the place at about that time on Saturday 11th August. The NIP states that such a notice must be served within 14 days of an incident that may lead to a prosecution for the offence named. The offence is "Contravene Red Automatic Traffic Signal (Motorway)" which I am fairly sure I didn't do when I drove through the location on the Saturday night. -
"Speed cameras may cause crashes" - discuss... 27 Jun 2018 (Forum)
https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/legal-motoring-advice/2018-06/inventor-threatened-with-jail-for-inflatable-speed-camera/ Note the comment in the first paragraph that a (fake) camera "causing danger to other road users" could lead to a seven year jail sentence. I can't help wondering, by this logic, how many real speed cameras may equally have "caused" a crash; not to mention the "real/fake" cameras of year gone by (the ones that local auhorities couldn't afford to load with film, meaning that several fake cameras were deliberately dotted around the country.)
