  • Rover 414 Brake Pads. 5 Oct 2001 (Forum)
The wear indicator warning system [1] on my Rover 414 brake pads went off today. I shall be popping new ones on tonight. It looks simple enough but does anyone have any words of warning/advice? Thanks in advance. Dave [1] A grinding noise.
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 - Mercedes E class brake issues 1 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Everyone should stop driving their car in the wet for fear of warping a brake disc!!!!!! I personally think there is a defect with the braking system if all pads and discs now need changing after 44k miles, especially with the huge deterioration from 30k miles to 44k miles, have any other E class drivers had any issues with their brakes?
  • 98 S Vx Astra Estate 1600 Brake Failure 2 Sep 2002 (Forum)
The supposition was that the rear brakes had been binding, overheated, and caused fluid to boil. The brake fluid was changed and the car has been ok since. The questions that arise are Has any one experience of brake fluid boiling as the result of binding rear brakes?
  • Agila 1.2L auto 63 plate - Problem with brake fluid change 6 Jul 2025 (Forum)
Im 76 and know little about my subject above. Had brake fluid change. Day after brake light Dashboard light flickered when I reversed onto road ( handbrake was off). I called back head mechanic and he said that the fault was not his mechanics fault and checked it over.
  • Honda Jazz Hybrid - Multiple Honda 2020 model Brake Servo failures 20 Sep 2024 (Forum)
I called into Honda agent to query delay in getting my CR-V Hybrid back on the road (see other thread) and on looking around the parking lot saw two other vehicles (both Honda 2020 Jazz) parked alongside my car with windscreen sticker “Do not drive – Brake Servo Module failed”  Queried this with service manager, “Yes, we’ve got three more in our other branch, all with failed Brake Servos and Honda UK are denying liability” This seems to be much more widespread than my own experience - and a very serious safety issue with brakes failing - yet Honda UK denying liability as all these vehicles are just out of warranty.
  • Brake judder! 6 Oct 2022 (Forum)
Went back to the garage again, they confirmed that I need new disc because of the old suspension has effected the brake disc alignment.   He wants £145 with vat! Is that true the bad suspension will affect the disc alignment to become unsmooth brake? I am going to do myself to save money with Hayne manual book, do I required new pads?
  • Brake Fluid Change or Test? 28 Jul 2017 (Forum)
The general view on here is, I believe, that brake fluid changes every 2 years is just a profit generating exercise by main dealers when in fact the fluid only really needs changing if the moisture content is too high. So does anyone here own/use a brake fluid tester?
  • MOT Testing & Brakes 19 May 2017 (Forum)
Incidentally, no mention of it was made nor any attempt to flog me new brake discs, although it was tested towards to the end of the day.
  • fiat punto 1.2 acive 2005 - brake light coming on 26 Sep 2015 (Forum)
HI great site.... i have a fiat punto and had the clutch replaced and the car dropped off today. As soon as i drove it off the brake warning light came on and goes off and on intermittently when driving but in particular when I am accelerating or stopping. The clutch and brakes feel fine and work ok and I have checked the brake fluid which is right up to the top of the reservoir but its a bit dark so i cant see at what level its at and I definately cant seet this filter which apparently stops it filling up.
  • FIAT Doblo (2001 - ) - 2003 1.9 JTD Diesel - Brake Light Issue 29 Oct 2010 (Forum)
After driving straight for a moment, the light will go off. The brake fluid reservoir is shared with the hydraulic clutch, according to the hand book. Any idea what is causing this??? Steven
  • Nissan Primera III 51 plate 1.8s 95k miles - horrible grinding taking forever to brake 13 May 2010 (Forum)
the above car is taking forever to brake and the makes a VERY loud juddering/grinding noise upon braking, the driverside CV joint was replaced last week, also i am not convinced the brakes are an issue as before this saga they were working absolutely fine, the pedal judders almost as if the abs is kicking in but i find this hard to believe as most of the time this is happening in the local streets driving any suggestions or help wopuld be greatly appreciated also could you give any approximate values for a repair job as if too costly it might be heading to the sc*** yard!
  • mondeo 03 reg - brake prob? 27 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I had the front discs and pads replaced dec 09 as they were worn and it sailed through it's mot at end of Dec 09 with no advisories. I have now noticed what I can only described as a grating sound? This is present on braking but also intermittently when driving along, as though the brakes are binding somehow (and this may sound stupid but is when driving is is more pronounced when the car is driving left round a bend!)
  • FIAT Grande Punto (2006 - 2009) - 08 1.4 Brake failure on 4 month old car 14 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Yesterday on the way home from work, the ABS warning light came on. On getting the car home, the driver braked, a lound thud then came from somewhere in the rear of the car, and lost all braking capability, including operation of the parking brake. The car is currently propped against the rockery (driveway is sloped, this semi-auto box has no Park option), waiting for the dealer to collect it.
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 1997 1.8TD Where is the brake proportioning valve? 23 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I have bought a '97 Ford Mondeo 1.8 TD LX estate, and it came with an MOT failure sheet stating "little or no operation of nearside rear brake". The previous owner had the car looked at by a garage, and the paperwork from them says faulty brake compensator valve. I have bought the part to replace it, but I can't seem to find it anywhere on the car.
  • Rear brake lights 28 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I managed to alert a driver at a set of lights recently that he had no brake lights. He just said, yeah I know!. Considering all modern cars have a third brake light, I have lost count of cars with the two side lights not working. Or is there a general fault. As we have a lack of police on the roads, I can see this situation getting worse.
  • Electronic Parking Brake (Passat) 5 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Give me an old fashioned handbrake any day. Ex-colleague of Andy's had had his brand new Passat just days when the parking brake refused to come off. Andy's had his about four months and 12,000 miles, and yesterday his parking brake refused to go ON. I received a forlorn text this morning saying he'd watched it go away on a VW Assist recovery truck!
  • Toyota Yaris 2003 - Servicing 5 Dec 2006 (Forum)
The price quoted for the service was £143, but he said this morning that the brake fluid change, if required, would be extra (even though the service schedule says to change it) Should I insist that the brake fluid is changed? Will not changing the brake fluid effect the Toyota warranty?
  • Motorway brake failure 6 Apr 2006 (Forum)
The last couple of times I have driven for a longish stretch on a wet motorway, I have gone use the brakes and found they did not work. This only happens after 40ish miles of wet motorway driving, and a couple of hard applications seems to restore the proper effect again. The pedal is still hard when this happens, and feels much like brake fade does.
  • 1998 Punto 60S shakes under braking 16 Mar 2005 (Forum)
My wife's 1998 75,000 mile Fiat Punto 60S has a distinct shake under heavy braking similar to having warped discs. It seems to be coming from the nearside only. The car does not have warped brake discs as I recently changed them (together with the front pads)to try and cure the problem but it persists.
  • Braking technique question 26 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Not your Alpine pass variety, just a mile or so which proves too steep to keep in check simply by closing the throttle. I've always favoured braking using a series of relatively forceful (but not sharp) applications of the middle pedal (or the left-hand one for us auto drivers!), whereas my friend advocates steady continuous braking all the way down the hill.
